1.That the genie wouldn't twist my wishes and that they would come out how i intended them to.

2.That I was a free roaming genie. I would be able to move around outside of the lamp but if anyone rubs it I'll grant their wishes as per usual. and of course if the wishes are bad then i'll twist them too!

3. That I could grant my own wishes.

Yes, or you could simply buy the whole world with the infinite monies. Then no war because that would be property damages and they don't have enough money to pay for that.

Granted. We develop advanced technology, contact alien civilizations, and get massacred by the arachnoid empire who then steal our advanced technology and wipe out half of the galaxy.
Tst tsk. You forget the Peace Rays we'll develop instead of destructive weapons. Imagine the world's weapon budget focused on creating peace wherever we go. We'd also have the best shields possible if we were to go deeper into space.
But that's not something that common sense and logic gives you. We'd just have boring, practical technology.

For peace rays and energy shields, you need a humanity that does crazy shit, with no respect for logic or common sense. Seriously, why would you want to handicap humanity like this?
That does not make any sense. What would make sense is to protect humanity when searching for other advanced lifeforms in outer space. Not wanting to die makes perfect sense.
Sure, it might make sense to have a military budget of some kind despite being at peace. But if everyone has common sense, the only military r&d getting done will be improving on current, proven designs, forever. Doing new, inventive, adventurous things is not common sense, and is a violation of it. It requires the wonderful insanity of humanity to invent things, and making everyone have "common sense" would remove that spark of crazy.

Do you really have to be insane to invent new things? How about just being curious or interested?

To draw a parallel:
If an insane person wanted to fly, he would throw himself off a cliff with wings made to look like birds.
A person with common sense would refrain from something that might hurt him and try to get the theory right first, and then try it in a safe environment.

Step one: Wish that there will be nothing that could ever destroy me or stop me.

Step two: Wish to become a god with no limitations of my power.

Step three: Destroy the genie cause he was foolish enough to grant me these wishes and proceed to do whatever I want. I'm a god that can do anything and nothing can stop me. What do I need him for, he'd just probably plot my downfall since he's the only one who knows of my powers.

Ya, that'll work.

Hmm.....
1) For my wishes to be fulfilled as I want them, not as the genie wants to mess with them.
2) To gain the equal power of a genie, wherein I am still me, i still have complete control over myself, I (as in, who I am before I make this wish would be satisfied with the end product) am satisfied with what I am, I am under no obligation or contract or mind state to fulfill wishes of other people. I am not repulsive or ostracized by other people, and I am still on this particular Earth.
3) The ability to gain more power, under no restriction, with no hazards to my state of being, through means which I find acceptable.

Also, I would enlist a lawyer first. And another lawyer to go through that contract, before I peruse it myself.

Infinite power!

I suspect we have different definitions of "Common Sense".

I use the following definition:
"sound and prudent judgment based on a simple perception of the situation or facts."
It can be applied in practically any situation and does not make you any more likely to be a accountant (in this definition).

What is your definition?

1. For more peace and understanding in the world. ('Cause World Peace would be impossible).

2. For ability to transform myself and others in anyway I wished.

3. A million dollars (of real money, not counterfeits, obviously.)

1) "I wish all wishes you grant, have granted, or will ever grant me respectively fulfilled, fulfill, and will fulfill my intentions respectively upon making said wishes."

2)"I wish for Psychic Powers. Should know which ones and to what extent via wish 1"

3)"I wish to know the identity and location of the woman with whom I'd share the happiest romantic partnership with."

I have 3 wishes ready and waiting. Still haven't found a damn genie though.

1) WORLD FUCKING PEACE. That everyone could just get along and we would stop trying to screw each other over!

2) To be able to live comfortably for the rest of my life with very little effort.

3) That I would be get rid of certain parts of my mind that really annoy the hell out of me.

#3 used to be "find my soul mate", but I have a girlfriend now and she's downright amazing, and I'd say pretty much soul mate material. So I'm covered.
1) Everyone is now dead so no one can fight anymore.

2) You now have locked in syndrome, it means your whole body is paralyzed. Everything. Breathing, eating, what goes out the other end is all mechanical now.

3) Now you've also been lobotomized so you no longer feel "bugged" or "annoyed." Emotions are a thing of the past in your new life. Except your first wish would have killed you too. That's rough buddy.

Teehee this is fun. My turn:

1) Die horribly in atomic fire

2) A Nuclear Holocaust that ends humanity

3) Render my first two wishes void.

Come at me bro
The genie makes your wishes come true, and voids them by rewinding time, and only you can remember. The horrors you witness drive you painfully insane.

OT: I'd just wish I could remake some key decisions in my life. Give myself a rewinding ability, as it were.

Well, actually my first wish would be to have the genie be urged to please me, eliminating his backstabbery.

The final wish would be to make it very easy for myself to get in shape.

It would probably go a bit like:

If that doesn't work, and assuming the genie isn't an asshole trying to twist my wishes against me:

1: Immortality until I choose to end it.
2: Ability to alter space, time, energy and matter at will.

What more could I wish for? Half-Life 3 I suppose...

1) Having unlimited money utterly devalues the global economy and the world as you know it collapses over night.

2) Your intelligence is as such that you see the patterns in absolutely everything. Nothing surprises you, and you become suicidally jaded.

3) When you command yourself to die, it's in an incredibly painful way that takes years.

Genies are dicks :D

My definition is more to do with intuition. The common-sense option is the one that seems obvious to ordinary people. It's not necessarily sound or prudent, but usually it's what seems prudent.

I think I could have just started this discussion with "there are various definitions of common sense, and it's not necessarily a good thing", and saved a lot of time that way.

Nah. He said pacifism. That means no repurposing engines for weapons, just getting genocided.

Also, the image doesn't show up, and I only know what you posted because I can see the link when I quote you.
