So here is my dilemma. At the start of this week I noticed that in the uniform shop at my school that they sell ties. I took five steps outside of the shop and look around and see that literally no one is wearing a tie. So during that same lunch break I'm discussing this with my friend and has noticed it as well.So we both agreed that were going to get ties. The next day (Today), Him and I both got a tie and put them on. Throughout the whole day everyone is looking at us and clearly asking to themselves: "Why are they wearing ties?" And there was even one person that came and said that to our faces. All we said to everyone all day is simply Haters Gonna Hate, and continued with our days. But on the way home today (I catch a bus home) and this one girl approaches me and says: "Hey F*cktard why the F*ck are you wearing a tie? Only gay Sh*ts do that. Looking up at her it was obvious that she was one of those girls. You know what i'm talking about. So I just continue on with my bus ride and she continues telling her friends that ties are gay and only idiots wear them.

So my question is: What do you think about wearing ties? And do you care about people opinions when on the off chance something like what happened to me happens to you?

Well...being a girl I wouldn't wear a tie myself, that would be kinda weird. But ties are alright. Maybe people are overreacting because you're in school, and people don't usually start wearing them until they have a job that requires them. But really, if anyone's stupid about ties it's them, if you go into any sort of white collar job and are male you're going to be wearing a tie.

I had to wear a tie as part of a private school uniform, I realise now being a girl that was the ONLY time I would ever have to wear one

also ties could be assosated with mormons and religious tpe who knock on your door

Ah yes, the Mormon dorks. But they're dorks for more reasons than just wearing ties. OK...yeah, maybe you won't have to wear a tie in white collar business...but it IS quite likely, and people ragging on guys for wearing ties are kinda stupid. Plus, knowing how to wear a tie is going to make it much easier when you're older, single and dating. A lot of classy places require ties and suits.

To put it lightly, I fucking hate wearing a tie. see what I did there? I did

I just really don't like having something tight around my throat. See also: turtlenecks. I guess I can admit it can look nice sometimes, but seriously, ties can go die in a fire... okay I'm done.

I'm assuming you're somewhat young if you are getting those kinds of reactions. Don't sweat it, people are dumb in general and very dumb at that particular teenage range

Ties are great. I've often used them in lieu of handcuffs or other similar devices in bed. :D

In terms of wearing them, I'll wear a tie if I am in a suit for whatever reason, or if it is required by military uniform. The only time the latter has occurred has been a military funeral. Parades, such as ANZAC day, don't require me to wear a tie.

Love ties, I have a whole pile of them. Ideally a tie should never be uncomfortable (like a suit shouldn't) by picking the right width, length and method that suits you. I love rocking a large double windsor. With the right shirt and clothing, they look great.

Also on a more practical level, if you throw on a tie it can make up for some more slovenly aspects of your dress, if say you haven't got an ironed shirt or don't have time to shave.

Haters gonna Hate. I actually know exactly how you feel too, last year I was heckled by this obnoxious drunk woman for two blocks just for wearing a suit. Just ignore what they say, that's always been my view about things like style or taste and I find myself alot happier because of it. I mean, whats wrong with a peruvian cap and socks with sandals anyways?

They are idiots, ties are awesome and classy, they often can give a huge boost to your outfit and it's always great when people say "Hey nice tie!" and that happens more often than you'd think and they're rarely being ironic, but yeah ties are great, if you don't like them then you clearly have no class at all.

I got heckled outside of a hospital I was doing placement at for wearing a tie and formal clothes, this guy who was lurking outside the ED. I got called "rich-kid" and "trust-fund baby". The irony? His glasses, stylishly torn jeans and faux fur parker probably cost several times more than my $10 slacks, $12 shirt, $9 tie, $20 sweater and four year old formal shoes.

Well my avatar should make it fairly obvious what I think of neckties. A lot of formal events require them, but for casual use they're good at adding a little flair. It all depends on the situation really. Bowties, though, don't get me started on bowties...

wtf is wrong with a tie?

Ties are great. They stop your head falling off when you nod too emphatically.

I don't like the idea of going out of my way to get anything that's a OH&S hazard.

I personally don't like ties, but...what the fuck is wrong with that girl?
I'm pretty sure it's still not standard procedure to begin addressing people with "Hey Fucktard."
If it was, I'd be in fits of laughter all day, but since it isn't...what the hell?

I hate ties seeing as I still cannot tie one up myself. I have a clip on tie for work and it leaves a mark on my neck after the shift. Bow ties are better imo.

Sounds like you go to school in a very interesting place Yarqqq. I mean I've worn longjohns with shorts to school before and nobody said anything to me, I think that's stranger than wearing a tie. Plus ties look good.

I'm not a tie fan. But who the hell cares? Anyone that cares about what someone else wears, is stuck up and arrogant at the least. It's kinda cool of you to be purposely "different" though. Way to go.

Ties are the keys to suits. And suits make you awesome.
