I want Tim to explain how to get rid of the fucking lag in the multiplayer. It is seriously unplayable.

They can be hard, the last one requires a bit more effort than the rest.

But I didn't really have any trouble with them, the trick is, for me, to send in all your troops at the beginning of the match, supporting them with the deuce. This doesn't work that well against the Drowning Doom, their anti-infantry troops will tear apart your Head Bangers and Razor Girls, so you have to take them apart in advanced. But it tends to work.

I only really call the last fight challenging is because half way through a bunch of heavy issue vehicles turn up that you really need to use the Bladehenge attack to destroy or they'll take all your Fan Geysers and overwhelm your stage.
I take it you`re talking about the penultimate battle (the sea of black tears)? that was just an exercise in patience really set a rally point for the bridge and gather up as many unots as you can before chargeing the opposite stage (after taking out the `leccy towers of course)

Are you kidding...I've been on some Gamespot RPG forums and they've had in depth conversations about the game and have helped each other out - I would say looking at this thread that they do more than what we clam to do...

On topic, if it's not explained very well and people are having trouble with it then it's bad game design. Bear in mind that the game has a mass-market appeal; people who may have never played a game with any form of strategy may be playing the game and as such may be playing it "wrongly"...

Woah, woah, let's not say things we can't take back. I apologise for being so blunt but I feel that the game explains itself pretty well. If you have a counter argument to present then I'd like to hear it.
As you wish...

I think that my problem is not in fact being a moron, but not wanting to invest the time to learn the intricacies of the game's battle mode.

However... the reason for that is, I wasn't having enough fun with the game to merit investing that much time in my least favorite part of it.

I have beaten many tough games on the hardest settings, (1000GP in COD4, beat Gears on insane, beat the Ocarina Water Temple in 3 hours with NO walkthrough etc)so being a moron isn't really the issue. I guess it's more to do with my taste in gameplay.

Or maybe due to the current trend of games being simplified and explained in every detail in the last few years, we've become a little spoiled with our level of hand-holding?

Could be a whole new thread.

I agree wholeheartedly.

I'm a gamer for 20 years but I have never played an RTS style game so I might as well be a newbie.

And also, Tim says in the speech that your double team attacks are the most crucial part of victory. I don't remember that being said in the game at any point.

You have to use double teams in quite a few main missions as far as I remember, so I just picked up a few tips here and there and tested it out. Also, I think I saw a tips once during a battle that double team is crucial for victory.
Oh, and not to sound like an ass or something, but I like to explore and experiment, not beeing spoonfed every last bit is a joyful experience. I see how people can find it annoying though.

Btw, if you would like some information on any of the double teams, I can try to answer to the best of my ability, fire away.

Here's a question: How do you kill that damn tree quickly?

I like to explore and experiment too, I just don't bother doing it in games/sections that aren't entertaining or fun enough (to me) to merit it.

The rest of the game was great fun though, I loved the intro sequence, the gorgeous metal world, and the soundtrack was inspired (I never thought I'd hear Carcass and Megadeth in a video game!)

I think you mean the one that spawns when you take down the towers? Well, you can just spam the rock crusher double team on it a few times, that takes away a fair chunk of its hp.
Actually, I was just using the rock crusher when I broke down the towers, so I almost didn't notice the tree at all. When I heard Mangus talk about it I didn't really notice it before it was dead.

A tip though, have a big force before you take down the lightning towers. With the help of the rock crusher double team, you should be able to overpower the enemy force, as it traps them in a small area before doing some heavy damage.

I'm picking up Live for some multiplayer goodie later this week myself. :) Only been playing against the AI so far, but I got the feeling that playing against experienced players can be, well, Brütal. :p

Drowned Doom player here btw, hehe. I just love riding into battle on one my reapers and send the enemy infantry into disarray.

It's their (player) fault if they (players) don't know how to play the game. Many people have already finished the game, if you can't - you just suck at it.

Yeah, I had them trapped at thier own stage for so long, about 25 minutes. I was hammering them with vehicles, bikes, metal beasts, blocking them with stonehenge, and they just brushed everything off.

Any time I tried to use my Zeppelin, they would rush me and Eddie would be dead in seconds.

They blew up my rock crusher 4 times then suddenly out of nowhere doubled in size, came across the bridge and ruined me in under 3 minutes.

I got them the second time though, the Deuce was very handy. What did you find was the best unit to counter the lightning horse riders??

I thought they were pretty straightforward except for the parts where you must stop and select individual units. every time I did they just stop, get picked, but still all attack at once.

You mean the reapers? Ah, those are my favorite units when playing multiplayer, extremely deadly against infantry(including your hero), but not quite as deadly against vehicles. I would recommend blasting them away with some ranged attacks, for example the lightning gun on the deuce, since their main weakness is that they die pretty fast.

I think we've already established that I'm not very good at the game, but thanks for pointing it out again.

If Tim had to go online to explain it to people then I'm obvioulsy not the one only one experiencing difficulties with it.

Also, it is NOT the player's fault if they don't understand the game mechanics. EVER. If players don't know how to work the game then the devs have fucked up.

Well the man speaks the truth. I've never played it like I play Starcraft and I've won most of them with very little difficulty as long as I've been down there melting faces and cutting guys in half. Then again the game couldn't get more awesome in my eyes unless it was on fire. And parts of it are.

Also, I would guess that the reapers are the main units that are killing you when you try to get off a solo, so once they are down, jump out and melt some faces, or summon some lead zeppelins(get it?).

Well it sounds like you simply don't enjoy playing the game. I don't have a problem with that, that's your own personal taste. I was simply trying to say that the game is easy to understand but as you have pointed out, you may not particularly want to understand it due to lack of interest. I suppose it is mostly the fault of the developers if gamers can't understand the game but I personally didn't even remotely struggle with it so I fail to see how others can. I often forget that other people think differently from me and thus could find certain things easier or harder so sorry for calling you a moron, it was an undirected rant regarding the "dumbing down of games" which I dislike. I don't doubt your ability to play Gears of War on insane.
