Time for a new PC but now idea where to start

Hey Escapists

Looking to get a new PC, my current one is starting to not meet recommended or even minimum requirments for new or soon to be released games. But I havent looked at pc hardward in nearly 3 years and am unsure whats good, bad or ugly.

This is my current PC

Looking to get a completely new pc so i can give this one to a family member who has a bad pc.

So any suggestions or recommendations?

I prefer https://pccasegear.com/ since i have dealt with them before. Looking at spending 2-2.5k all up.

Has hardware prices gone up/down/stayed the same in terms of performance per dollar?

My current PC has run any game i have played at decent setting for nearly 3 years i think.

Games i have or want to play in the future include farcry 4, dragon age inquisition, witcher 3 and probably others i cant think of right now.

Also is http://www.logicalincrements.com/ any good? up to date?

go to amazon type in generic laptop they have a wide range tbh with the amount you are willing to spend you might aswell throw in a gaming laptop and should still have some left over

I would say your CPU is underpowered compared to your GPU. Its much easier to replace a gpu than a cpu and that graphics card will be cheaper in 18 months. There are very few games out that can benefit from the 3GB/4GB cards anyway.

As to http://www.logicalincrements.com/ they are pretty good. I might argue about particular choices but as guide it is good and up to date.

I had a look under system they seemed overpriced but maybe I just mis understood. And yeah I was including mouse and keyboard etc

Also I think some of these replies above seem to be thinking that like I posted is the pc I plan to but. Has computers advanced so little in 2-3 years that parts from back then are confused for modern parts or did I just buy a extremely future proofed pc back then?

What I posted is my current pc as in the one on my desk right now. And I was using that to show what I have so people might be able to help by suggesting modern parts.

Intel have produced newer versions of the i3, i5 and i7 but the name has remained the same. The newer reiterations are slightly more powerful than the older ones but not a step change in performance. In terms of gaming, because the latest generation of console is only about as powerful as an i5 with a current generation 2gb graphics card, there hasn't been a push to buy a more powerful machine. Unless you are doing something like video encoding or 3d modeling there isnt a need for a more powerful processor and graphic card.

If you want something that will play all current generation games at high go for an i5-4460 with graphics card of similar performance to the one you have. If you want to still be able to do that 2-3 years down the line then go for an i7-4790K and upgrade the graphics card in 18 months or so.

I think he may be specifically looking for a desktop computer, though.
