I express interest. What do I need to do to join once this starts?
Pick a figure and sign him up.
I request usage of Ibn Sina (because I cannot resist 'Doctor' puns). Are you going to link to the main thread or whatever here once you have it set up?

I want to know how the timeline is going to work. Are we going from the latest battleground we decide on backward, or are we doing it in a random order. And if we're doing it in a random order then are those times fixed points themselves? If, for instance, we traveled back to the Battle of Yorktown and altered history there, how would that affect World War 1? If we do decide to take these events in random order, then you could have a lot of fun with that. Just something to think about.

Also, if we're already calling dibs on characters, I'd like to be Theodore Roosevelt.

You're going to have to have some form of safe bubble for each of two faction leaders to operate from to avoid too much mindscrewing.

Sort of like a small, protected, fixed-time, space that doesn't change regardless of what happens in the past that each leader has set up for themselves. Perhaps just a bit of lab space for each faction.

Neatly sidesteps all the potential butterfly effects or paradoxes any marauding players might cause

e.g killing ancestors meaning no descendants, stopping creation of electricity meaning time machines don't function, removing the cause of dispute between the two so nobody ever goes back in time so the dispute cause isn't fixed so people go back in time, etc

Alternatives:

-You could use the theory that history will always happen just in different or delayed ways and only the minor details are subject to change. e.g you stopped the assassination of Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand? 1 year later widespread rioting in Serbia due to still not being free ignites the powder keg of pre-world war one. The fun here would be in working out how things could have still happened

-Some form of "time police" working against both sides to restore the time line. These could even take an active role and be controlled by the gm or a neutral player.
I think this Sub GM type role would be excellent Like a team more linked to what's going on but still with some autonomy. Giving the GM control in a more indirect way apart from being the rules judge. Reduce risk of railroading and such

I sure we are both going to regret this but, I just got a week off and spend all my time on the Internet anyways, Sooooo I'm stepping up.

Alright, when you wish to start this, put up a sign up thread, More people come into a new thread than an old one, and make an RP group.
Then pick the people you want and send them invites to the group, that way everyone is together.
Also, I'll need to be in on any plans you may for the RP, Plot and otherwise.

This is only going to end in tears...

I definitely would be interested in this. I would choose Nelson Mandela in his prime. Mandela in his Youth was a Boss and part of an underground Freedom fighter organization.

Both, Somebody sends in a sheet, if they get picked, they get an invite, The group will also act as a place of OOC posts and a way to poke people into posting.

Would anyone like to help me revise the backstory to fit in some of the suggested plot details?
Il help if im needed. Iv done some writing in the past but since im going to be playing as a character I dont want to have an unfair advantage, so the game effecting stuff il stay away from.

ok if you want a list and explanations behind them hear is what i have come up with so far

- time cops is a great idea and should be made canon. i could wright up a quick origin story or you could save it to introduce during the game.

- the theory that history will always happen one way or another cant be used for the simple reason that if it were true, this whole war would be a waste of time because anything they do will have been for nothing.

- weapon wise i think that the characters should be ether using a weapon there known for historically, or have the same weapon issued to them all (time blasters FTW!) to prevent imbalance.

and that's about it what do you think?

edit: also where and when should i submit my character sheet

I agree, history must be changeable.
I believe it should be historical weapons.
Keeps things varied with different weapons.
maybe 1 future weapon assigned to each squad that is great in very specific circumstances.

I.e The team is issued one laser blaster or plasma rifle, lasers bounce of shiny medieval armour or something like that. Plasma is powerful but has few charges.
Otherwise all historical weapons will be moot.

Do the time cops follow the same rule or do they get weapons privileges (a future weapon each but then after still need historical weapons) to keep them powerful until the endgame?

In a previous post I mentioned a time advancement idea of the teams getting to choose what aspects of the future get forwarded. The winners being allowed to chose two advancements (or the same one twice).

If the time cops win they prevent this bonus from applying to reduce timeline interference?

The change in technology would affect which weapons and vehicles were available.
The political changes would change enemy classes with different stats or weapons..

(If terrorists are the threat at that time they could be more rogue like, a dictatorship would mean more soldier enemies with armour and heavy weapons rather than a hard to find and kill enemy but fewer in number)

The technology aspect would decide the weakness of equipment. weapons or vehicles in the nuclear age run forever and poison enemies respectively but overheat.
In the digital age they have a small boost to accuracy and/or prevent friendly fire(onboard autoaim AI) but chaff grenades prevent them from working or mess up the IFF and Autoaim system

Does that seem like it could work? I can make a document as a prototype with more detail

and yes where when can I submit a sheet? How many slots open per faction and for the Time Cops
