I was wondering if anyone knew any great time wasting things to do at school when bored. Things like: taking pens apart, doodling, making towers with all your stationary etc. I only have a pencil case a book to write in and maybe a textbook when I'm in class.

EDIT: Please, if you're going to make a post that says "try listening to the teacher troll.jpg" don't bother. I'm in first year high school, and so our maths teacher is going over a lot of stuff that I already learned in primary school. So I sit, bored out of my mind for about twenty minutes while he explains Pythagoras' theorem to the people who didn't learn it yet. I want something to do while he talks. So could you not make a post detailing how I should be listening to the teacher? Cheers.

Me and my friends used to do the thing in our english class where you make up stories by writing a line and then passing it to the next person.. that was always fun, although everyone in the class hated us because we were always laughing while everyone was hard at work :(

Build things out of your pencils/pencil case.

Take a short nap.

Drift off into a daydream.

Doodle.

Those were some of my favorite things to do when class seemed to drag on >.>. Of course, I did end up only getting average grades, so it's up to you. =P

If paying attention is not for you 'cause unlike the rest of your class you get most stuff the first time it's explained, you could draw pictures, write poems or short stories or get some good old sleep. Whatever strikes your fancy ;)

Outside of paying attention and doing your work, I'd suggest either drawing or reading a book. That's what I always used to do in school. Though I did get my books taken away quite often...

What we used to do at school, especially in the library, was to wrap a small rock in paper and casually toss it onto the next table along.

Of course, this would create a huge THUMP! as it hit the table and they would get told off for it.

We were rather sadistic, like that.

Something I remember me and my friends doing during science class was doodle wars. Someone would draw an environment and we'd take turns.

- A turn was two minutes or less, (unless a doodle was particularly detailed and cool enough to warrant an extension.)

- You could draw two characters, or a character and an attack move, or two attack moves.

- Characters had to be original creations, no boring stick-men, (although stick creations were still allowed.) Obviously it got quite bizarre with characters like "The Upside-Down Xmas Tree of Death" and "Sporkman" but it kept things interesting.

- Everything was one-hit kill even if it was a baby mouse vs. a T-Rex. However attacks had to be line of sight. Attacks were also encouraged to be fitting to the character attacking.

- You could attack the landscape to give line of sight.

It actually turned out to be a pretty fun game. Definitely filled up a class. Allegiences were unspoken and fickle, generally if one person was deemed to be amassing too much power they'd be ganged up on. Or we'd just gang up on someone if we were feeling vindictive. There was rarely a definitive winner but eventually we came up with a scoring system, (which I can't remember,) for the end of the class based on unit's created, units lost and units killed. The winner would get to draw the landscape for the next class.

Paying attention in class is probably going to be the better decision later in life, but I stuck to doodling to waste time. That, or writing stories, arranging all my things (books, pens etc.) in a very OCD way, daydreaming, actual dreaming.. napping during a boring or long class is probably better to do when you're sat at the back, not so great when you're on the front row.

writing up D&D adventures. that is something I used to sometimes do in high school if the subject was as boring as they sometimes where. added benefit is that your writing, gaze up to the teacher sometimes and they'll think your a model student

I flip my pen around in my hand. I've gotten quite good this year, you can thank two double lessons of biology for that.

Yeah, that sort of situation will arise. While I enjoy doodling and messing around as much as the next guy , if you enjoy the subject then you might as well get on with the exercise your teacher is going to set. It's called independent learning and they shouldn't give you lip for going about your business. You're in school to learn, not to listen to the teacher. If you aren't learning from your teacher then you may as well teach yourself until they take over.

Otherwise, appreciate how awesome you are. It's what I do.
