Well, remember, before taking this seriously, this is the people's vote, which was online. I have no idea who TIME picked, nor do I care.

He was voted as the peoples choice. I believe that's different from TIMES actual person of the year. And besides, I think who wins this thing stopped being relavent when last years winner was "You" {insert picture of a mirror here}

Uhh? Entertainment easily influences more than any other form of... anything. Movies, music, arts, games, etc. You must also realize that his influence has an effect on more than just his industry and the people who are a part of it. In fact, the gaming industry takes from all of the different parts of entertainment.

Say Mario (or humm his theme song) to just about anyone on the planet and they'll instantly know what you are talking about. Even further, it will most likely put a smile on their face.

That is influence. Miyamoto speaks, the world listens. That is influence. Miyamoto works on a game, the world buys it. That is influence.
Protip: Politics is 100000000x more influential than entertainment.

This poll is just a popularity contest. The only thing that this poll shows is that video gamers mustered enough firepower to shoot him to the top of the poll and nothing else.

If I remember correctly, the person who won last year was some Korean pop star. BUT HEY, IF THE POLL SAYS THEY ARE INFLUENTIAL, THEY MUST BE, AMIRITE?

Maybe. By that logic, though, Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana could be MIP, easily.
No. They don't influence an industry as well as people.

That Protip is wrong. Entertainment can influence politics (See Manhunt, GTA, etc.). Another thing entertainment influences.

A correct Protip would have been:

Protip: Entertainment influences every aspect of our lives.

Hahahahahahahahaha. How did Manhunt influence politics? OH THATS RIGHT, BY HAVING POLITICS PUT MORE PRESSURE ON THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY. Comes full circle.

Really, terrible argument there.

Not as much as the extent that politics welds.

The fact of the matter remains that Miyamoto, while being a mover and shaker in the video game world, is not as much a mover and shaker in the real world. Sure, has sold many video games, but these video games don't influence users, especially casual gamers nearly as much as political or economic players do.

1) Miyamoto's audience is still considerably small compared to a major political player.

2) Miyamoto's actual influence over those people he reaches is still absolutely insignificant relative to politics.

Arguing otherwise just makes you look like you lack a worldly view on the matter.

Does not deserve it. You might as well give the award to Steven Spielberg- they are both entertainers, not hyper-important people.

My vote goes to..... Gordon Brown. Mainly becasue Putin won it last year, and Brown is calling a lot of the international shots recently (due to America's misfortunes, etc, etc) and he's a scot, so he is naturally eviland cunning.
Okay, I'm British, and Gordon Brown couldn't influence his way out of a paper bag. Seriously. Not even he's listening to himself.

Oooor, people realize that being the boss of a country that thinks itself top of the world doesn't make you important on the rest of the planet.

Heh, d'you hear about the pillock trying to get the Scotts to swear an oath to the Queen as they leave school? Like that was ever gonna work. Hell, half of labour voters want him out already. Has it even been a year?

War Monger of Yabucua: You Sir, are a molester of small woodland mammals. If it is ever said someone of your country is ignorant (I can't be bothered to check if you have a nationality listed, though I'm ashamed to admit my mind jumps to America. Sorry chaps.), you can sit safely in the knowledge it's the fault of people like you.

Ash: America-hate aside, you have to admit the president of one of the world only superpowers might just wield some influence. Maybe. Maybe a little bit more than a Korean popstar? Yes?
