Along the lines of the trailer comment but a bit more realistic in terms of expectations.

Buying a game to get an advanced shot at the demo of another game. Why the fuck would you not want to release your demo to the public? If I have to wait till a week before release day when the demo has been around for a month tells me you really aren't interested in my money and don't want me to buy your game.

In recent history it would be the name WiiU.
SimCity always online DRM would be one of those moments but since it's EA... well, I just don't try to understand EA. It's impossible.
But then MS outdid Nintendo and announced the Xbox ONE. The third console is named ONE. What the fuck?
But that's not all. It has always online DRM. So it followed Nintendo in the naming process and it went full EA with the DRM.

I'd have to say Bioware: Nothing after ME2 seems to have worked for them: DA2 had me going WTF during my entire playthrough, and then came ME3, which I thought was quite a fun game, until I got to the end and just gave up on Bioware. That said, what I've seen of DA:I (very little so far) has me in a state of half-hearted anticipation.

EDIT: Upon further reflection, I've decided to blame those shortcomings on EA rather than Bioware, because it makes me happy inside to know that the team that create Baldur's Gate 2 and KOTOR isn't the same one that made DA2. And I doubt I have to expand into more of what EA have done wrong, do I?

I think this is the natural end result of the widely expanded access we've got in the last few years. Coverage of events like these covers everything but individual bathroom breaks and people assume that means all access, even if it's not.

I think it's also part of instant gratification, a trend we've been working on for decades. Especially nowadays, where people are of the belief they can take whatever content they want off the web in the first place.

But it still smacks of a false sense of entitlement, as Shrek said.

Oh, noes, what has became of Doctor Who fandom?

The trailer will come out for everyone eventually, no reason to ***** about it...
I don't know what you're on about. Doctor Who fans are some of the biggest Whovians out there. Why, last week, my frat brothers all painted themselves TARDIS blue and had a 72 hour New Who marathon kegger!

...bro.

I had no idea what the Hell Microsoft was thinking when it came to the Xbox One Eighty mess. They kinda missed the point of being an evil corporation, mainly that you're not supposed to TELL people you're an evil corporation.
...At least until you control the world. Then screw the pretenses.

My biggest problem with it, as well. I was probably nto going to get it anyway, but calling the fanbase backward didn't help.

Usually this is done to push a game you want to sell because you have a hot property you know will move the games. It makes a lot of sense, especially since it's usually something people will buy, demo or no.

It doesn't always fit this criteria, so it's not always logical, but it quite frequently is.

EA immediately comes to mind. It's almost as if they enjoy pissing customers off and being boycotted, it's one thing after another with them.

Nintendo's fuck ups lately make me scratch my head. You mean a console that has no must have exclusives and worse versions of games released years ago won't sell units?

Let's just call this the EA effect and move on.

Well no, because I'm gonna be original.

As some of you may know, Power Rangers is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year, and next year will be the celebration season, "Super Megaforce," which takes sentai footage from a Sentai season which brought back almost every team from the last 35 years.

However, Saban, the people in charge of Power Rangers, decided that the best way to go... was to forget seasons 11 through 17 never happened (AKA, the best seasons since they bothered to hire good actors), and only hire from their run of seasons 1 through 9.

By the by, those actors (10 of them out of about sixty) live in America, and PR is shot in New Zealand as of Season 11, Ninja Storm.

So... why doesn't Saban bring back actors from those last few years, thereby bringing more back since they wouldn't have to travel as far? I don't know, but the common theory is that since Disney made the -better- seasons, Saban's trying to forget about them.

I have been highly disillusioned by companies recently.
Most of the times I realize that company decisions are made by people who dont know anything about how their products and services are operated or appreciated by their consumers.
I wish there was a way to vote out management that dont understand what they are doing out of their positions.

There comes a point when a company gets so big that they become hopelessly arrogant and/or out of touch that it's inevitable that they destroy themselves. This process is helped, considerably, by the fact that they're lead by CEOs which almost invariably come from retardedly rich families who are the very definition of arrogant and out of touch. Also, there doesn't seem to be such a thing as a "bad" CEO. So, no matter how hard you screw the pooch, there's another job waiting for you with a multi million dollar sign on bonus.

Big money looks after big money. Doesn't matter how utterly and completely incompetent you are, if you are rich, you will always have a job.

To be fair, it does seem odd to premiere a trailer for the 50th Anniversary epsiode of a beloved British show the other side of the Atlantic, especially considering how proudly British Doctor Who is. Then again, I know DW gets big ratings globally these days so it's understandable, if a bit of a 'screw you' to brits (not that it really bothers me, it's only a trailer).

I'd say the entire handling of DC film adaptations has been pretty stupid and shows a massive lack of foresight. I mean, even if we disregard the Nolanverse Batman films (which I presume is being left alone), Green Lantern and Man of Steel could never coexist in the same universe, even if Green Lantern didn't suck anyway. Now they're in a position where two of their Justice League staples are in need of possibly-confusing reboots and if any future films are going to coexist with MoS they're going to need to be fairly dark in tone. After three Nolanbats films and MoS already, I can foresee people getting tired of that.

What other characters do they have to play with? Martian Manhunter? Probably too little-known to carry a movie, you'd have to introduce him in the JLA film itself. Wonder Woman? That's going to be a tricky adaptation, I'd be surprised if they didn't balls it up.

This is all forgetting that none of the films have bothered to do much world-building beyond their own storylines, which is really something that helped Marvel drum up excitement and made the MCU feel cohesive.

Comic-con exclusives in general are dumb. The event sells out regardless because it's a big con and people like big cons. There's no reason to fuck over everyone not rich and American enough to get there.

Also that's a pretty big assumption, often Comic-con footage never sees the light of day.

Microsoft for their golden rule of 'oh this is too simple, let's make them pay for it and make it really hard to navigate'

eg. XBL ?50 per annum, but when I try to play a game on GFWL oh no, you think its easy to use your own Gtag for that?

eg.
Friend of microsoft worker: 'Hey can I borrow your copy of *insert game here*'
Microsoft worker: 'Well, I dunno...'
Friend of microsoft worker: 'Aww, pretty please!'
Microsoft worker: 'Fine, but it'll cost you 5 bucks heheh.'
Friend of microsoft worker: 'Not happy about this but ok..'
Microsoft worker: *thinks* That was an easy 5 bucks...if I made everyone do this then...*pictures himself diving into pool of golden coins like donald duck*

I think it is a little galling because Doctor Who is funded by the UK licence fee (a $220 a year tax paid by all British people in order to use a TV set). So it's a bit cheeky to release trailers first in the US. At the least they could have had the advert on BBC One as well or something.

That said, I'm not all that bothered by it purely because Doctor Who doesn't interest me much any more.

-----------

OT, the only answer is Microsoft atm.
Those Xbone policies couldn't have been worse if they'd been trying to cull sales for tax purposes or something.

Also, just to counter all the hate that big corps are gonna get, the devs of Planetary Annihilation [http://store.steampowered.com/app/233250/]. Charging $90 for alpha access to any game is just obscene, especially when the kickstarter goal was met (and in fact doubled).

The most obvious example is Microsoft with the XBox One. Never in my life have I seen a corporation being so out of touch with the real world for so long. They wouldn't got a best satire of an anticonsumer policy if they asked Sterling and cracked.com to write it for them. Please consider that the XB1 had to spend several years and countless teams from R+D to mass production, and no one questioned that those ideas would backfire.

Forget Bioware, EA, PSP Go, etc... They all seems like sound ideas by comparison.

Capcom, for not releasing Monster Hunter on anything other than Nintendo consoles, and not releasing the last one they made for the PSP.
Then they sell poorly in the West, so Capcom deems it not worth porting over.
Goddammit Capcom, I used to love you for Monster Hunter, now I despise you for it.

This. Microsoft has an incredible bureaucracy on their side, they must have had like 10 committees dedicated to thinking up and testing names. Of the hundreds of paid professionals who talked about and inevitably approved the name "Xbox One," they didn't go to anybody to see if any embarrassing abbreviations could come from the name? Really? NOBODY at all saw "Xbone" coming?

Also, their press releases during their shameful "damage control" phase was incomprehensible. "Hm, so the masses seem to think we're anti-consumer and don't respect their opinions or complaints. Let's make a whole bunch of statements about how the Xbox One was 'geared toward' advertisements, and accuse our customer base of being blind luddites who don't understand the full potential of our great technology! Fuck them and their complaints, if we just keep telling them they don't get it, then surely they'll stop whining and realize how awesome our product is and how much they owe us for blessing them and their sad, dirty lives!"
