When I went down-hilling on my mountain bike with a few friends I went off a 20ft drop-off - I wouldn't normally do anything as stupid as that but I didn't know the course and was following the guy in front of me - it was too late to consider bailing out (and going off the side of the drop-off) as there was another of my friends right behind me. So next thing I knew I was flying through the air - I was going far too fast for the drop because like I said, I didn't see it coming until too late - and I landed heavily and leaning slightly to the side. So when I (eventually) landed my bike bucked me off and I went flying (again) but this time I was heading for a tree and had no way of stopping - except gravity & an immovable tree. I was bricking it, thinking that I was going to die. (Luckily) I was only out cold for about 20mins, I had two broken ribs, a couple of minor cuts and a lot of bruising.

I love these threads. Hehe.

The only time death has narrowly avoided me was in a car crash on the motorway when I was 11. Car in front just stopped for now reason and we were tailgating it. You can guess the mess. There's probably a few more situations where death just missed, most likely anvils falling from the sky whilst I appear comically oblivious to the death falling everywhere.

I've also got the privilege of having kicked death in the nuts after he got to me, twice. Thank God for the NHS.

Although., If you word it as 'What's the closest you've come to death?', I'd have to reply: My Granddad. He's Fecking old and Fecking cold.

Last year I had an engine die on me while flying from Dallas to Corpus Christi. I got it started up and running again, but it scared a few years of my life off of me.

Oh, and I've nearly been killed by richotteing bullets countless times.

Failed break line, about let me drive over a cliff. Yes, it's sounds pretty dumb, but I was in an old WWII jeep, hadn't been driving a stick that much, and it was in the desert.

Rolled an ATV once, cracked the helment I had on in half.

Rolled the WWII jeep one afternoon and got trapped under it. Thank God my buddies were following me on ATV's

There are other ones, but I can't think of them now.

When I was young I was really underweight so had some really bad viruses that could have killed if I wasn't taken to the emergency room.

Also almost been hit by a car.

Well one time my real mom dropped me down the stairs as a baby.
Another time my real mom "Accidently" sat on me and I stopped breathing as a baby.
This is what my current mom told me I don't really think its possible to survive the stairs thing the breathing one is probably true.

I was almost shot at point blank range with a snub-nosed revolver when I was 15, I was almost swept into the ocean as a kid, I almost fell off the top of a castle tower on a windy day in Scotland, I've had hypothermia, was almost killed by a blow to the head when myself and a friend were attacked by chavs and other dangerous events that I can't remember at this moment in time (it's 4:30am...give me a break).

I quite simply refuse to die.

I was going to Canada, when the car slipped on a patch of ice on the road. It spun around about 7 times before stopping. The car was now on the other side of the road, having somehow miraculously avoided every other car. Amazingly, my entire family was not harmed in the slightest. However, had the car just moved a slight bit more to the left, it would have fallen off the bridge and brought us all to an early grave.

But that didn't stop us from enjoying our vacation!

When I was in middle school some moron decided it would be fun to push me out of a narrow pass between a wall and some bleachers. He did once then decided his friends should see him do it. He was pushing, I wasn't budging, suddenly a forearm slid from my chest up to my neck. He had cut off my airway, and the memory is hazy at this point but I remember starting to pass out (couldn't think, vision going dark, lungs burning the whole nine yards). Luckily someone called out something or other (passing out wasn't really helping my hearing), and the arm released. I fell out of the pass and onto my side, where I then started taking in as much air as possible. I actually didn't want the teachers involved in this, but apparently my classmates decided they were going to anyway. Had to write up a small police report, see the vice principal, and then go back to class. He was suspended and cried as they took him out of the school.

Also almost purposely stabbed myself in the stomach at the age of 8.

Uh.. no I can't say I've really ever been in any situation like that. Is that unusual?

When I was 13 I got menigitis and was in the hospital for several weeks. I know walk with a slight limp, especially when I am tired. I also can not touch my toes, although I don't know for sure that is a reason why. That's my excuse anyway.

Well, Iron Mal has me beat, but I've had a few brushes.

1) Water skiers whipped too closely to shore where I was swimming, had to dive underwater at last second to avoid decapitation.
2) Nearly hit by 4 cars carrying large woodshop project home while crossing main highway on last day of 11th grade.
3) Brakes out (I still suspect cut) around a 40 mph turn at 60 mph, car turned over and went into a (luckily) frozen ditch.
4) And lastly was in a claptrap might-as-well-have-been-made-of-cardboard house while drunken house guest used it for target practice with a rifle.

Not the best of times, but then again I tend to avoid ladders, roofs, office buildings, and most rednecks; otherwise this list would either be a lot longer or otherwise not there because it's hard to use a keyboard when your fingers are intangible.

Tobogganing, a half-metre tall jump and some trees. I missed splattering my gray matter by about a foot. But that's just how it is.
Joined the discus team in Junior High, a kid almost took my head off.
Didn't see a turn light in a busy intersection, nearly got hit by a hummer on my bike.
Also almost got hit by a UPS truck on my bike.
Almost drowned once.
Think that's all.
