I figured since the beta for Titanfall is out, and codes have started (slowly) trickling through to people, it might be worth having a topic to discuss everything about it, the good and the bad.

My thought is that it definitely lives up to the hype. My main worry about the game was that after all the press build up, it was going to be another game over-hyped and I'd be left disappointed. This is not the case however.

One way I would describe Titanfall is that it's like playing a sugar rush. It is frantic and fun as hell. And your hands shake after it's over =P

The free-running is my favourite part. While it's not as in-depth as Mirror's Edge (my favourite example of free-running) is, it still feels immensely satisfying.

My only problem (whilst also a big strength of it) is that it is very frantic. You're practically never still. And while that makes for a good time whilst playing, it can also be a bit "mentally exhausting" to be over-dramatic.

But all in all, yeah, it's really good, in my opinion. If you're in the beta, feel free to contribute your thoughts as well, if you're waiting for a code, feel free to grumble and if you want to show how uninterested in a game you are by posting a topic solely about it, well, I can't stop you either, I suppose.

I don't like/care about this game, so I'm going to 'ironically' post how little I like/care about it in your thread about it. NEENER NEENER!

...

Wait, but I actually don't really care about it because it's a multi-player game... dammit!

Was there really any doubt that it'd at least be decent, though? I mean, it's being headed by the people who were behind the actually mechanically competent Call of Duty games. Microsoft has poured the advertising dollars behind it, but getting overhyped for anything these days seems a bit silly to me. Realistic expectations never let anyone down before!

Good to hear. I can tell just from gameplay vids that it's going to frantic and very fun, which is exactly what I'm looking for. There hasn't been a good multiplayer game released since about 2009, so I'm hoping this will fill that gap.

I received a Beta code today and after playing 12 rounds there is a distinct lack of people using the Titan's themselves most people seem to be camping in corners under cloak over and over again.

So yeah like all multiplayer shooters it's turned into a camperthon.
Hopefully cloaking gets a bit of a nerf, I kind of dislike it.

I'm enjoying most of the gameplay though, I might well pick it up. Would have been a pre-order for me 3-4 years ago when I was in 6th form and loved shooters, gone off them a bit now but this is the best i've played in a while.

So I imagine it's what Brink was supposed to be? +mechs? :)

Dunno, I've signed up for beta to give it a go, but I imagine it'll be a CS/CoD type game, which I'm not hating on, but just isn't my type (I got played out on the genre and always preferred BF-style combat with a lot of different vehicles). Still, worth a shot, but not expecting too much simply due to my personal taste (I'm not a huge mech fan, not against them either, it's just not some big bonus to me as I imagine it'll be for a lot of others).

I've seen so much Titanfall footage by now that I'm actually not even know if I want a beta key anymore so I probably won't get bored by it by the time the game releases.

On the other hand, I'm bored as hell right now and I'd really want to try it out before game releases.

I fucking love it.

It plays fast like Call of Duty but has the same adreneline rush as Halo. It's great.

I dunno, I watched video footage of it and it essentially killed all interested I had in the game.
It looks like another shooter. The guns all seem pretty boring. You shoot bullets OR rockets. Holy shit, my mind is blown. The Titan's don't actually seem that interesting either.

The Epilogue thing at the end of a match is kind of neat.
Burn cards are neat idea as well.
The free running looks okay.

I think the grunts and pilots look way too similar.
I'm tired of the washed out colour pallet every game ever uses, including this one.
I also have no interest of jumping on another 300 hour progression treadmill.

Really not seeing $60 in the game, personally.

Its definatley not a $60 game, but the game is fun. Its very much dependant upon the maps - so far the maps are a bit stale, small, non destructible and using a washed out palate.

Visually, its nothing to write home about for a PC player. Its also not very demanding for a decent PC.

Its going to need a lot more unlocks to make this game interesting for the long run; more imaginative maps, better titans, more weapons and armour for pilots. The bots and interesting filler, but are not in any way a challenge. Its almost impossible to be killed by one.

Its understandable why the beta is only for a few days, given that there is only a few days (at most) worth of content there.

Its a load of fun, especially when you end up skipping from one Titan to another, shooting them in the health-core-thingy, just to run away up a building whilst invisible. One thing that I do notice is that I actually prefer the Pilot gameplay as opposed to the Titan gameplay, this is just because I like the speed and maneuverability of the Pilot as opposed to the Titan, however I am looking forward to using the Stryder Titan when the game launches just so that I can get the best of both worlds. I will say however I do enjoy how fast paced it is, and the verticality of the maps is also refreshing.

When it comes to weapons however, I am expecting to see a lot more variety for both Pilot and Titan loadouts. For a beta this is a nice amount of content to be shown, but in a full price £40/$60 game? No way.

Hearing everyone gush over the beta makes me want to check it out. But I'm guessing that the beta is XBone only?

I'd love to tell you how it is but it won't fucking work for me. Gets to the main menu, then crashes. Of the handful of solutions I've found, none work.

Ah, what the hell, I'll post my issue here. Maybe someone will know what to do.

Whenever I start it up, it gets to the main menu then crashes. It then gives me the generic "Titanfall has stopped working" error.

My specs are:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
8gb of RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo @3.0 ghz
1gb Radeon HD 6850

I exceed the minimum requirements, so it's not bad hardware. I've also looked around and saw a possible solution was to muck about with msi afterburner and rivatuner statistic server but I tried that and it didn't work. I've also disabled crossfire and got the game to run in windowed mode (should help with crashing) thanks to a command prompt but nothing seems to work. Also tried redownloading/repairing but that didn't work either. Also re-installed my drivers.

Maybe someone can help me, maybe not. I don't know. Chances are I won't be able to play it at all. The same shit happened to me with the Battlefield 4 beta.

No It's on pc.

I really like it. The best part is when you jump onto a titan an start going to town on it. I also thought it was hilarious when I killed a titan by dropping mine on it.

I love how frantic and fast paced it is.

Well, after my problems were solved I placed it. And it is really fin little game. I'm getting excited about it, were before I would've ignored it.

The Pilot moves are fin, but I don't see a lot of people wall running which is a shame as it is fin as hell, but the two maps available aren't that kind of strategy. The mobility is damn fun and it is fast paced and frantic in a good way. And then you can change it up with the Titan, moving slowly but Abel to squish punny humans, whole they and not only other Titans are a threat (a smartly positioned Pilot can damage you severely and give you problems, either as a rodeo or just plan anti-Titan weapons). I like the bots, especially because the maps are quite big and teams are small. The weapons need a little balancing (nobody uses the Smart Pistol nor I've seen to many sidearms) but well it is a Beta. Of course it is a bit sparse in content right now, but I hope that the full game has more modes, maps, weapons and Titans. A really fun game so far, and I look foward to see the full product.

I've only watched a couple of videos about it, but from what I've seen, my overall impression is that it'd be fun to watch for a while, but after the majority of possible stunts have been recorded, the wow-factor will wear off. Not to mention, while the Titans seem quite cool to use and fight, since you get more rewards for gunning down players and the AI, I don't see their use being too frequent after the initial rush of awesome ends. As some have already mentioned, people are already camping with stealth camo and playing it as a straight COD-esque shooter, almost completely forgoing their Titan altogether, which is rather boring.

Since it's still in Beta, it's possible that they'll be able to fix some of the issues, though how effective that will be as a way to iron out the flaws is beyond me, since the release date is right around the corner, and again, this is what I think after watching it on Youtube, not actually playing it myself; I could be completely wrong for all I know.

Let's see, after playing it myself I can see what they were trying to do. Titanfall has it's moments of fun, but those are few and far between. In reality it's Call of Duty 2.0 now with new and improved Mech flavor and some seriously unbalanced guns. By that I mean, the maps are small, titan combat is a joke with limited sightlines and there are (as mentioned above) camo campers.

Then there is the smart pistol. That thing can never be sufficiently damned. Seriously, the pistol locks on to targets for you and the bullets will chase people around corners as long as you maintain it's lock. The bots are dumb as bricks and really don't pose any challenge for human players. The Parkour stuff is cool at first then you realize it's just a gimmick and breaks the flow of maps badly. In all honesty, Respawn didn't learn lesson 1; Never give players the ability to break the sandbox at will or give tools to camp... if you do, players WILL do it.

In all reality it's sad that people that had 4 years, and a lot of money, to make a new IP and innovate in the FPS genre churn out what amounts to the next version of Duty with almost no innovation. I had not expected much from Titanfall, but I also wasn't expecting the game to be more of the same. It's a shame really.
