I guess this only really happens in RPGs, but if this isn't the case let me know.

So in most RPGs, especially older ones, you're given the option to name your character because their are no voice files for others or you're given a predetermined title.

So do you often keep the character's name the given one, or do you always come up with your own? DO you have any names you often use, and if so, why?

I often use Revan, Rand, or G-man. Awsome Sith lord, Dragon Reborn, and my old nickname. Depending on the game, and the level of immersion I want with the character, I'll just leave the given name in.

I tend to use Garritios when I am trying to be serious but I prefer amusing PUN names. If it is a knight, I go for something like Sir Prize, Knight Light, etc. I've been known to use Wu Mon or Fay Mael for a female character. In Dynasty Warriors I always make a guy with a great sword named Wang Pu.

I always try to come up with a new name. 'Dick Neptune' has been a prominent one lately.

Also, my paragon and renegade Sheps are called Elvis and Claude respectively.

I usually use my own in a singleplayer game. For a multiplayer game, such as an MMO, I tend to hit "Random" until I see something that I like or that gives me an idea, and then go with that.

I tend to stick with the default. In Mass Effect, my character is Jane Shepard (which was the default name suggested by the game).

Well, my friend named everyone "Bob" in Final Fantasy VII.
According to him, the results were hilarious.

I just go with either my name. However Bulletstorm seems to be a perfect place to grab names from. Planning on doing a Mass Effect run as Dicktits Shepard.

Dillan, Miranda, Adeline. About the only three I use consistently.

Hepatitis was the name I gave a joke Shepard, male with a horrible crescent shaped face.

I tend to use Bob mostly.
Might go for something interesting if I feel like deviation from the usual path of Bob, or if I already have a Bob or two in a game (Usually the latter), but more often than not the great hero goes by the mighty moniker of Bob.
The reason I use it is partially personal, but I can tell you that it has to do with a running gag between me and somebody else.

[sub]I have been using Numba some recently.[/sub]

If Im playing an RPG and making the choices in it that I'd like to think I'd make, I'd use my real name. Otherwise I'd use a random name that springs to mind if the character isn't supposed to represent me.

I use a randomy generated name that sounds cool, or Sebastian because Sebastian is a name so good it must have been invented by Jesus in colabaration with the world smartest man.

I usually use my regular nicknames, Jarl or Xzar/Xzar the Mad. I've also gone for Morgan once, when I made a smooth-talking suave ************ who could gamble himself out of America's debt and convince a deathclaw not to snack on his buttocks. A tribute, of a sort, to Morgan of LRR.

For female characters, it's usually Silke, stolen from some prissy ***** in Baldur's Gate 1.
