Shingetsutan Tsukihime is the most obscure anime I've ever seen. If I recall correctly it was about vampires and this dude with a pocket knife. I didn't much care for it.

but I've seen the first episode of Bokatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan, which while not really obscure, isn't one of the really recognized series either.

As far as I can tell, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.
Half the people who I've seen talk about it said they didn't understand it.
but it makes more sense as it progresses, then everything is revealed in season 2, Kai.

Gods I remember seeing a few episodes on TV, you've got random and random, but thát is just...I kinda lack an explanation for it.

I think Kurozuka and Texhnolyze are the most obscure anime I've seen, and I don't watch a lot of anime. Both are pretty good, by the way, and I can recommend them.

I've also watched a few episodes of a show called Shangri-la, something like that. Not sure if it's obscure, the story pretty much looks obscure. Some little girl in a schoolgirl uniform (how cliché), wielding a giant boomerang and helped by a drag queen wielding a whip, has to save some community in "forest-ised" Tokyo. It's hard to explain, and it really reaches a "wtf" level when said little girl explains some super-technical economic stuff (it's all about carbon credits and whatever) in a very dramatic way. It didn't hold my attention, but barely any anime does.
