I've had cows that I've loved every bit as much as my horse, but i still eat beef. It seems weird to eat a horse for most people because horses generally serve a purpose other than to be consumed as food, whereas cows and pigs usually only serve as a food source. But just because it seems strange to most people to eat horses, it doesn't make it wrong.

I've heard people get all upset here (Canada), whenever somebody mentions eating horses. Frankly I dont see wha the big deal is, meat is meat. Yes some is better than others, but thats neither here nor there.

So I ask, what are you thoughts on eating horse, and other non-predominant meats (ie not chicken, pork or beef)
I can understand not sharing the belief, but am I honestly to believe that you don't understand why they don't like the idea?

EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ANIMALS!
Hilariously enough, PETA wants exactly this.

Which would make it illegal to own pets :3
Yeah, that sounds like PETA, though I'm sure they would go beyond forbidding pets and instead promoting that humans be the only animal to "deserve" to be a pet or a source of meat. I can only hope I'm exaggerating, but you never know with that bunch...
I wish you were. But your not. PETA has extreme human hatred issues comparable only to the bad guys in Tom Clancys Rainbow Six book.

Do you mean animal X over animal Y or the ethics of meat-eating as a whole (Please be the former, the latter is tired and overdone(pun intended))
I meam X over Y, as for the ethics of it...

That about sums up what I think
Most of this is true, but why is there a camel in there?

Om nom!

Seriously though, if dogs were flock living, easy to manage large quantities of and gave a lot of meat, we would probably have started using them as food way back, and today there would be no stigma. Now, we only have the image of the trusting companion instead of a hamburger with legs, and that's what makes it hard for us to eat them.

I tried horse once...rubbery.

I guess it all depends on what you're used to, if horse is your thing then chow down on some prime pony. Same as if you've got no beef with beef, eat up because it's your tastebuds.

I ate horse several times. as sausage or a sour joint. it's ok. My uncle makes it from time to time, he has horses himself, rides for years, as does my cousin. She doesnt eat horse out of girlish sentimentality. on the other hand, she played with the pigs, gave them names and had no problem inhelping turning those into wurst and ham.

I'll happily eat horses, they're supposed to be pretty tasty.

I'll not eat cats or dogs on principle, if you shape a species for use as a companion I think you have a certain responsibility to that species. Dogs and cats were always intended as a 'companion' animal rather than a piece of living machinery so I don't think it's appropriate to co opt their species that way.

Fun fact: pigs are considerably more intelligent than horses and are actually reckoned to be the most intelligent domesticated animal. They're smarter than dogs and the smaller breeds can make very engaging pets.
there are dogs bred for meat. they look a little bit like fatter pugs.

I personally don't see what the big deal is. We eat a bunch of different types of animals. I think George Carlin sums it up pretty good in his sanctity of life bit. "We get to choose which forms of life are sacred and we get to kill all the rest."

I would gladly eat anything including dogs and horses if it was an emergency. But just mentioning the fact would get me stoned by the nearest animal lovers.
Perhaps because you'd "gladly" do so?

I'd say meat eating is terrible in general, but the fact that i just ate a chicken fajita wrap demonstrates my own willpower when it comes to this.

I've a friend who has in fact, eaten horse meat, he says it's incredibly tough because horses are so muscley he likened it to eating a tire. In my experience with eating other animals (mostly reptiles) it's that we chose to domesticate the ones we did for a reason. They're easy to raise and they are delicious. Pretty much everything else is rough, tough, or sludgy.
