It just got boring. Doing the same freakin' thing over and over again is only interesting for so long. Dungeons were easily the best part of the game, since doing stuff with other people is fun, but even that got old when the novelty wore off and they became another gear grind. Same deal with raiding.

left after a good 2 years having found the combat so stale I would rather read a book, and a frustrating PvP with enough crowd control skills to give me time to read that book while waiting for the de buffs to disappear.

I stopped playing because everyone that I knew personally who played stopped. Also, if I played WoW now, I'd probably do nothing but sit in my dorm all day and blow off classes.

I like to compare my WoW detoxification to the baby-on-the-ceiling scene in Trainspotting.

Deleting my main was analogous to flushing my stash.

I RPed a lot, and losing my character hit me harder than anything else. If I had it to do over again, I would have just left him inert. There's a weird sense of loss that had a much heavier effect than I'd expected.

Ive been playing for a few months, mainly got into it because my nearly freinds all played it, its not the most entertaining thing around and PvP is annoying as hell (im not on a PvP server)
but considering the subscription fee works out to be bout $20 bucks a month thats a lot less i'd spend on other games in a month and i really need all the money i can get at the moment, last couple of months have been mostly TF2 and WoW

im going to quit, there is a certain lack of dynamic that includes you in the grand scheme. I want something that goes along the lines of "all of a sudden there is a gold rush and everyone is going there" I don't want instances and i don't want compartmental gaming based on gear. The quests are getting old, why the hell can't they deliver the letter themselves? why do they need a champion of the horde/alliance reduced to a messenger boy after killing 10 of something they can't be bothered to kill.

Yea, thats why I would play on a PvP server. SO that if there was an invading horde or something in a major city I'd always rush to it and try and help stop it. That's another problem with WoW, that no matter how long you play not much seems to change. Good thing for cataclysm tho

I was in one of the world's top 10 guilds in TBC and stayed with them until Ulduar. Exactly because the guild was so good, we were able to clear pretty much anything within one or max two resets, even in Sunwell since the bosses were opening one after the other with large breaks between them. In Wotlk though, and especially Ulduar, the full introduction of insanely hard "hard modes" for pretty much all bosses meant that our usual 6 day per week raiding schedule would go on not for 1 week, 2 max, but many months before we manage to clear the place. I went through that, again, only to watch as Blizzard nerfed to dust extremely hard fights that we had to attempt hundreds of times before mastering them. Around June I decided that I could no longer keep up with this exhausting raiding schedule, especially since they are consistently nerfing everything, which made all our achievements and time spent mean nothing. So I quit, and I don't think I will ever be back, too much stuff going on in my life right now.

Sometimes I think that it wouldn't be so bad going back, but I left it because I was too busy to play and couldn't think of a reason to even play when I wasn't busy. I've seen everything I wanted to see. I don't care to raid, wastes too much time. The only thing I really miss are the people that I'd fuck around with in my guild. They slowly moved to hardcore progression from a more casual, we'll get there when we need lulz sort of thing. Apparently the only thing that keeps people going in this sort of game is loot so well, not much choice in the direction. Eventually it just got so boring that I couldn't really find a reason to log on.
The only thing that would get me to come back (short of a miracle or resubscribing teleports whores into your room) would be a new community that is more like we used to be and shorter raid commitments. Then again part of the reason WoW isn't what it used to be is to appeal to the casual gamer and not reward the people who spend hours upon hours of the game.

I play a few months at a time until I either get bored or lose the free time required to play. Then I take a few months break, and come back when I get the urge.

I've been in "the urge" stage for months now, but I no longer have a computer capable of running the game...

I played WoW because there was a quality to it. A shine. A polish. However, after playing the game for about a month - that shine, that polish, it fades. I go back a month later, and it's shiny again, and I'm wondering why I stopped. A week later, I remember.

I stopped almost a year ago, simply because I ran out of content. Did all the big story lines, discovered everything, checked out all instances and raids (except Malygos).

I already stopped being a hardcore player about 2 months before WotLK, had a burn-out and a pause of a month, then played WotLK very casually. No heavy raiding, no farming, no repeating instances ad nauseum. I really took my time to get from 70 to 80, fully enjoying all the big quest lines, fully enjoying the incredibly immersive world with a very fun guild.

2 Months after WotLK was launched I pretty much ran out of content and got kicked from my guild because 'they didn't have room for a Friends rank any longer' because they went 'hardcore' again. Fun fact: the guild split apart after I got kicked, I was a very old, well-respected and well-liked member, even though I didn't raid regularly or even play thát often anymore.

Nowadays I check mmochampion.com every now and then if something cool happens on Azeroth. I must say that sometimes I do long back to WoW, especially when they released the Argent Tournament and Ulduar (I love Titan lore). I may visit for a month or 2 when Cataclysm hits, but I'm starting to doubt that more and more. The only MMO I really look forward to is Star Wars: The Old Republic, and if that hits even slightly near Cataclysm, I drop Cataclysm like a brick.

Of course I want to give wowcrack another try. But,no. It's in my best interest never to play that evil game again. Although, if I knew I had a group of friends that thought they could manage to casually play it with me, I might rejoin. But so far, no luck. I've known several people to blow our friends off so they could raid. That's not cool!

No desire, completely over it for now, probably will play for Cataclysm though.

I use to play WoW a couple years ago but eventually I left after growing tired of it. But WoW isn't really a game you can forget easily. With constant patches and expansions gamers are usually bombarded with imagery and news on this game. Sometimes I do miss playing. I was just wondering if past players also feel like giving the world of warcraft another try. If you don't play anymore, why did you leave? If you still play what keeps you playing?
Eh, I played for a couple of years. I actually never really got into it. I liked making cool characters and doing low level stuff -- but I personally never got past level 48, because I would get bored with my character or because I'd want to play one of the other classes I see running around all over the place.

Considering I quit as soon as the leveling got hard, I guess WoW isn't really the game for me.

The only thing that really keeps WoW players playing, is the fact that the game is a disease. Most players accept the fact that it's sadly the best MMO that's been made, and hasn't be surpassed by anything else yet. Most of the players just spend their time sitting in a trade channel in any random city, and spend their time trying to flame people that are easily flamed. The people that are fortunate enough to quit and stay quit shouldn't want to play again, there's many more promising ways to spend your money. There may be a lot to do, but you'll still find yourself doing the same things over and over, just to gain a fake feeling of accomplishment. The fact that the game gets easier with every patch doesn't help it, that just means the players that have no business being where good players are, are going to be there anyway. There's probably a lot of people that would disagree with this, but that makes them WOW PLAYERS.
People like you make me want to keep playing, because you've obviously never played the game, and nothing you said was true, aside from the flamers in trade chat, but those exist all over the internet, not just in WoW.

Or people with brains and actual experience from WoW.

Easier and easier you say? Strange, wouldnt that mean I could run into the new instance that came out yesterday with gear from, maybe, three or four patches ago? And that WOULDNT guarentee certain death?

I knew there would be people easily pissed off by what I said, because like I was saying, that's how the WoW community is. I've sadly been playing the game for over four years, and I've run into all kinds of these kind of people. It's just made it all the more easier to prove that I'm right, and you know that I'm right. The ability to misconstrue pretty much everything I said also shows your lack of intelligence. Unfortunately your pathetic nerd rage isn't excuse enough for me to indulge you the way that you would prefer. As a side note, morons are sticky, as in they all stick together against people they feel inferior too, or feel have put them in their place. You fill that nice little nook I made for you, I hope you enjoy it. I probably should apologize though, your lack thereof isn't really your fault, but I will have to be sending a nasty letter to your incubator and sperm donor.

Oh, and I'm sorry but your report button doesn't work here. THE GAME MASTERS CANNOT SAVE YOU NOW. For about the price of four months of your subscription though, you could see a specialist to have the pike removed from your anal cavity, you might enjoy life more, instead of indulging other people, as you have so thoughtfully for me. <3

Former player, have thought about going back because... raids were fun the first time around, ok the second time. I wouldn't go back to gear up again. This would mean going back for a month or two at most. But I haven't touched WoW since the week wrath of the lich king was released. Plus my gf, my brother, and my gf's sister all played, so... good times. We all quit simultaneously, it was time to get back to work =D
