I've been in and out of the game several times, currently active, and while I loathe the game, the friends I've made are what make it fun and bearable. They are essentially what keep me going back when I quit, and what keep me playing currently.

Much like playing football in a field by yourself is just a little bit dull, playing wow is the same. Add friends into the mix and it becomes a good fun group activity born of shared interest.

I know exactly how you feel OP. I quit about 4 months ago because I decided I didn't want to continue contributing the time and money to that one game. I do not regret my decision at all, as I feel a little more "free" without WoW in my life. I do think about it still, and occasionally miss the late night raids and the excitement of working towards/getting new gear. It's a great game for those who want to put forth the time and money, and I thoroughly enjoyed playing it when I did, but it's no longer something I can afford to play. Dragon Age is filling the void quite nicely though. :p

The only thing that really keeps WoW players playing, is the fact that the game is a disease. Most players accept the fact that it's sadly the best MMO that's been made, and hasn't be surpassed by anything else yet. Most of the players just spend their time sitting in a trade channel in any random city, and spend their time trying to flame people that are easily flamed. The people that are fortunate enough to quit and stay quit shouldn't want to play again, there's many more promising ways to spend your money. There may be a lot to do, but you'll still find yourself doing the same things over and over, just to gain a fake feeling of accomplishment. The fact that the game gets easier with every patch doesn't help it, that just means the players that have no business being where good players are, are going to be there anyway. There's probably a lot of people that would disagree with this, but that makes them WOW PLAYERS.

I still play it. Been playing it since early 2005. Never had a reason to quit.

Why? Because it's fun. And it's something to do when I'm sick of playing other games. I'm nowhere near addicted - if you say I am, you might as well say I'm addicted to watching TV or posting on these forums. I doubt a few hours nearly every night makes me addicted anyway.

Ill be honest, if anyone thinks WoW is grindy they just shouldn't be playing MMO's.

I quit due to my guild disbanding and i disagreed with alot of the stuff they were implementing (Race changes, top gear from easy dungeons etc.) Also i wanted to play Aion.

Maybe one day ill go and give it another shot but im sure that won't be for a while yet.

I have planned to go back when the new expansion is released, even if only for a month just to see what it is like.

edit: I quit March.

I quite in about four months ago, raiding got monotonous and then my headset broke. After a few more raids of being able to hear but not talk on teamspeak, I decided I wasn't having any more fun and quit.

I'll likely reactivate my account a month in advance of Cataclysm so I can grind out some cash and gear to jumpstart my Worgen so I can level him quickly :p
I intend to relevel in Cataclysm as well. Though not as a Worgen.

Troll Druid sounds pretty awesome tbh or Tauren Paladin (Tauradin?). I'll try the Worgen and Goblin (meh) when the starting zones die down some. Or change my Human Death Knight into a Worgen with the paid transfer thing cos those racials look badass, but they won't help me achieve stuff like my pretty Diplomacy has.

But, definitely not playing again till Cataclysm comes out. Its always better playing during an expansion run, a lot more people, and that means more people to make friends with. The best times i've had in WoW have been directly determined from the quality of people I'm playing with.

That's the best advice I could give, hold off till Cataclysm, cos that's gonna be awesome.

I played the trial for like 12 weeks (lots of different emails)
but I found that it is only fun till like lvl 5ish then it gets boring FAST!. If I ever play another MMO it will be WAR or hopefully the 40k MMO their working on.

I quit because my good computer motherboard died and partially because I was going to quit anyways. I still haven't bought a new computer in like half a year. This one works I can use the internet and play old PC games so its all good.

Boredom keeps me playing. Seriously. I work nights and everyone I know (whom I DON'T work with) works during the day, so I don't have much else to do during the week. As a result, I play WoW.

I don't raid, tho, since...well, no-one raids at 8 am EST, if I worked a different shift, I'd raid and THAT would be interesting. Then again, if I worked a different shift, I'd be able to go out and socialize more than just during the weekend. ><!

I quite enjoy my guild, tho. Little-to-no drama and all adults who are either finishing college or work full-time, so we joke around accordingly. It's a fun, relaxing environment.

In Season 2, for about a week, I had 1st rank teams in Stormscale 2vs2 and 3vs3. I quit towards the end of Season 2 because I wanted to focus more on studies and PvP was becoming less and less balanced.

Since I miss the roleplay crowd, and Cataclysm's passive talent system (whatever it's called) looks interested, I'll probably play WoW again late December when I get a desktop PC. I'll still be a human mage.

Yeah, I remember the days when names like Stuck, Ruler and Jamaz were huge. I miss those. I miss roleplaying and PvPing with friends, too.

Well, just so you guys know if you come back now, you are gonna be obsolete. At the beginning of WotLK, you got emblems of heroic from heroics and 10 mans, and emblems of valor from 25 man raids. Patch 3.2 changed that by making it emblems of conquest that drop from heroics and some 10 man and 25 man, and emblems of triumph drop from new 25 man and new content. With 3.3 we now get triumphs from all heroics and frost from new content, weekly raids, first random dungeon of the day and new raids. Pretty much this has allowed you to skip by t7 and t8 gear and go right on to the new stuff, which is pretty awesome gear.

The new content on heroic feels like running a 10 man raid with a 5 man party. Outside of weekly raid marks, you don't really have to run naxx or ulduar ever again. The gear you get from the new emblems is leagues above what you get from lower raids. The new content gear is really good.

Things are still a bit glitchy from the patch, but the dungeon finder that will find you a party within your battle group is pretty neat.

I take breaks sometimes, but recently renewed my account for the 5th anniversary/Fall of the Lich King.

I tried pugging the new dungeons (on regular, of course). Got about half-way through (had to do the first one twice; damn unlocking system) before the four of us wiped. No new instances could be created :(

DAMN YOU PIT OF SARON!!!

Ill be damned if Im your worgen

fucken wow, Im going to have to change my preffered internet name when that comes out

I played wow for about 3 years before blizz fucked with me about a job offer, since then I refuse to give them any money

altho I still have dreams about wow and the constant bombardment of news doesnt help that, really if blizz hadnt messed with me I might still be playing it, or at least be going back to it for the expansions and such. No other mmo was as accessable for someone who doesnt play mmos with friends, altho aion did a pretty good job till you had to rely on griding, Im hoping they manage to fix that.
