So it's summer here in beautiful B.C, Canada and I'm bored out freakin' mind. So of course instead of being smart and GOING OUT SIDE (but I have been trying to get a job) I'm going to buy a game. Now being under the age of 17 (Canadian thing) I can't buy M rated games. This being the case, I have being sitting down thinking about all the games I want to buy for my PC. After careful deliberations (I flipped a coin) I have narrowed it down to two choices that I can think off: WoW (don't judge me) and WarCraft 3: Frozen Throne. I pick these two mainly because I have heard they give alot of replay value, which is something I need. Now the question I have to ask is: Which one (shocker)?
P.S If you have an ideas for a PC game with good replay value (that I can buy in a store) and is not rated M then please tell me.
P.S.S Bring me cookies.

Warcraft 3 is actually fun, costs noticeably less and doesn't make you feel bad about playing it.

...I think the biggest question is whether you like RTSs or MMOs more. I'd go with the MMO, but that's just to my taste.

I like WoW. It's not the most advanced MMO ever, but it's fun for sure. Warcraft III was pretty good, as well, but it's hard to get an RTS wrong...

I'd go with WoW, because not only will it take you a while to get a character to 80 and then get all the best gear, there's different classes to try afterward, AND PVP. Warcraft III has good replay value, but WoW has lasted me a lot longer.

EDIT: Inb4 WoW hate.

I would say Warcraft as well, because WoW is having a lot of security issues right now.

Warcraft 3. I've been trying to find mine and reinstall it, but I have not seen it in months. It might not be the best RTS, but Battlenet is great.

If you could tell me what kind of games you like, and why both WC3 and WoW are pulling you, I might be able to help.

Would you buy WC3 for the single player, the multiplayer, or both?
Do you prefer Co-op or competitive multiplayer?
Have you played an MMO before?
How much replay value are you looking for?
Any other information

They are both considerably different games. Your choice between them depends on your preference of genre. They are both AAA-titles in their respective genre, to be frank.

What complete rubbish. Do you even play WoW or do you just play World of Rumourcraft all day?

Anyway, like people have been saying, comes down to what kind of game you like better. Both are good games but you'll probably get more out of WoW if you do get into it than Warcraft III, particularly if you're looking for a time sink which it sounds like you are.

Excuse you-I have personally played WoW and have had problems with my account. Several members of my guild have also had account problems including account theft. If you have never had problems, good for you, but please do not speak for everybody. Also I didn't say anything about it not being fun. It is fun, but buyer beware.

Personal anecdotes don't really prove anything. There is no evidence that WoW suffers from widespread security issues and the vast majority of people never have any trouble. Remember there are 12 million WoW players, if only one in a thousand has a problem that's still a lot of people to complain. In reality, security breaches almost never occur if you're careful and recommending people don't play WoW on the basis of unsubstantiated claims of "security issues" is nothing short of scaremongering.

WC3 has a pretty good single player campaign (I have always enjoyed Warcraft's lore)

In terms of good multiplayer, if you like co-op, you have a lot more of an opportunity for working with people in wow, although its unfortunate that you wont really see a lot of grouping up and fun dungeons to run until at least level 60ish. WC3 is a decent RTS online, but personally I prefer Starcraft for a fun online RTS.
If you like custom games though, WC3 has some amazing custom games online. Its the reason I still play it to this day.

WoW will probably give a large amount of re-playability if you really get into the game, if you take into consideration leveling your first char to 80, doing whatever max level stuff you want on him, then whatever other characters you will want to play. WC3 on the other hand probably wont last you as long but its still a good game.

Personally, I just recently quit wow, and I think wow is leaving its prime, it still fun and you will probably get a lot of play-time with it, but in terms of game quality, WC3 still holds up in terms of the experience you get.

I'd recommend Warcraft 3, however, WOW is still a great way to occupy time, if a bit shameful, however, I must warn you, this game will most likely get boring withing a week or so. I caved and got a free trial account just to see what has changed in the year and a half I've been off WOW.

Oh for the love of frosting, are you high? I'm not trying to prove anything. It was just a suggestion because the kid asked the forum's opinion, to which I am entitled to have and answer, same as you. I'm not bad mouthing WoW, or saying it isn't fun. I am just sharing personal experience, same as everybody here. Lighten up.

Warcraft 3. You don't need to keep paying to play it, and there's plenty of content in multiplayer.

For security issues

1.(if you have a iphone) go to blizzards account management and get yourself the app for your iphone that works exacly like the blizzard authenticator.

2. Do not effing tell your friends your account or password.

EDIT: 3. Don't go to places you know has spyware. Yes even if its porn, find a place you know has no viruses.

Now back to the OP, World of warcraft is a very basic mmo so the replay value is pretty huge i myself have been playing on and off for 3 years now. Got banned on my first account BUT anyway it completly depends on what you want although I would say go buy yourself WC3:FT because of the following:

1. It has unlimited addons. Mods are made for anything and everything. I've even seen a DnD mod for WC3:FT. The game really ends up being whatever the hell you want it to be. RPG / STR / SIM / 3rd Person (i kid you not) i still fling out the old griddy corpse of WC3:FT at lan partys and people still hate me for it because it really does never end when you start playing.

2. Its cheap. You can find it anywhere Warcraft games alone take up 1 shelf at almost every EBGames / Gamestop shop.

3. You can run it on any computer. And its probably the game that has lasted the most in my history of lan partys.

Starcraft or Command & Conquer. Much better choices and not nearly as addicting. You also need a job more than games. Just throwing that out there.

I'd steer clear of WOW, the game is beginning its spiral down the toilet in my opinion. (I speak from full TBC experience and clear of Ulduar before finally quitting) Faction switching is one of many bricks that have been laid on that road, won't be surprised when premade characters and gear purchase become available, but I'm out so don't really care.
