Well, I've been wondering about playing WoW again, but I'm not sure.

On one hand, I feel that I did shortchange the game a bit, being that I only got to level 12 before I called it quits, and in an 80 level game, thats quite short. Also, I may have judged the game too much by its early content, and not have waited to see what opened up later.

On other hand, I'm torn about giving them $15 dollars a month or the game. I mean, I stopped playing once already. I have a lot of other games I play regularly for consoles and PC, and if the game couldn't hook me in the first 13 levels, why should I believe it will at level 20 or 25? Also, $15 a month compared to the $0 a month for my personal fav. Guild Wars.

I just don't know. Give it another go, or save $15 a month?

I recommend you not to do it. I wasted a few years in WoW and while I had plenty of good, fun experiences, I also have spent hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours doing basically nothing. Stick to games you can just pick up and play, and also quick save and quit. Then again, if you're a completely hopeless loner with zero desire to have any sort of social life, and have no need for income maybe you should just jump in and live in the virtual world...

I never found WoW as much fun as most other people did, so I would go with no pick up DA:O or another good RPG

If you enjoy Guild Wars you will love WoW. The early levels can be a bit of a pain (much less so now), but its just deeper and more involving in every way than Guild Wars. There is a reason why WoW dominates the MMORPG market, its had over five years of tweaking and balancing to get everything right. so... yeah you do have to pay for it but its worth the price.
O and in response to the poster above me, its all about moderation I manage to game and have a life its really not that hard, also they have taken a LOT of the grind out of the game and made it more accessible to casual gamers (don't belive me look at the blizzard forums full of knobends crying over how "easy" the gaem is (its not) and how you "don't have to work for your rewards", again bollocks, Wow has just been tweaked so whatever your play style you can have fun).

I did kind of like the simplicity of GW though.

And I already have a few RPGs that've beaten here. DA:O, ME2, etc.

That's your fault for not giving it a chance. The first 20 levels are boring as hell if you don't have friends or anybody to play with.
Once you get to level 20, your class and spec actually start to stick out, and you can see what you're going to be doing in group settings, as well as actually learn your class. And then there's instances...

I'd give it another try. Pay for a month, see if you are still interested after gaining some levels...

Wait till Cataclysm comes out.

The starting areas and "old world" quests are being totally redone so they match "modern" gaming sensibilities as opposed to the Everquest masochism WoW was based on.

I'd say try at least to level 20 to get your mount. The game gets a lot more painless after you can ride places on a horse/wholf/chocobo :)

I have to agree with this. I personally refuse to pay monthly for a game and i gave the 14 day free trial of WoW a go and found it very grindy and not very interesting. However i've really gotten into Dragon Age at the moment, the plot has really drawn me in and so far no needless grinding.

No offense but guild wars is not an MMO. It is a single player game where you meet some people in town. 15$ a month is basically nothing, 50 cents a day and you get as much enjoyment and hours out of it as you want. Try going to the bar or a movie for that cheap.

Question 1. Do you want to play it?

Question 2. Can you afford to play it?

If you answered yes to those two questions, then do it, otherwise don't waste time on it. Not being able to afford it is understandable, but assuming you are not, if you don't really want to put a lot into it, don't bother. I'm not saying you have to grind 16 hours a day, just that you shouldn't get it if you really don't want to.

I quit WoW some time before Burning Crusade when I realized that I wasn't having fun. I still follow the game, I grew up playing Warcraft 1,2 and 3. The lore intrigues me greatly.

Ignore people like this..

As for playing WoW, the monthly fee really isn't much for what you're getting. It's £8 for a game that is guaranteed to last you a month. It's £40 now for a game that lasts under a week. As much as I love Guild Wars too, there isn't much to do in PvE except grind for the nicest looking weapons/armour that don't improve anything other than your looks, and some of the cheaper armour sets look better. It does have good PvP though.

Try and get a friend to play with you, if not, try and get to 20 at least. It does pick up a bit there.

Kyehehheheh. thats Everquest Masochism? in hindsight its really not bad at all. WoW's advantage was it was one of the first games to Cater a little more towards the center...

But as for playing WoW again or not, holding out for Cataclysm (or at least waiting for its release date) couldn't be that bad an idea. I'd go in now to raise up cash and just have end-of-expansion jollies, but they have mentioned adding a bit more after Icecrown for Wrath content, and you'd have to wait at least until fourth quarter for Cataclysm at this rate.

only getting to level 12 or 13, especially with one job, in WoW, is just not enough time to gage if you'll enjoy it. you've hardly begun to diversify as the one job you may have played- did you try the others as well?

in the end, weather its worth the money is based on weather or not you personally thought it was worth the time put in. I prefer MMOs (I don't do WoW at the moment, I do FFXI), nd generally an MMO keeps me entertained, enough I don't need other games for a good stretch of time, so my non MMO purchases are few and far between.

Care to explain WHY he should ignore me? What are you getting at? When I say "I had plenty of good, fun experiences" I'm saying I really enjoyed the game. Yes, WoW is a good game, hence why I was addicted to it for 4 or 5 years. But it sucks up your free hours like a black hole. How many times have you waited around to find a group to do a heroic, or worse yet, a raid? How many times during a dungeon or raid has someone left causing at least a 20 minute or up to an hour wait? This happens all the time, unless you're in a decently large guild which is not something a newbie is going to jump into right away.

If you're just mad about my loner comment, the point isn't to say all WoW players are loners. I'm just trying to save his soul... well, social life. If he goes out with friends, WoW can bring that to a halt. If he has a girlfriend, WoW can make her leave him. And if he has no social life and wants one, WoW will make that nearly impossible. Because it's all you do. Some few people can keep it to a bare minimum, but usually they don't "get into it" and never reach end game anyway.

If he wants to play for the questing and leveling going solo so he doesn't just waste his time, great. But if he really gets into it, hits max, and starts doing the end game content, then he's hooked and what I said about his social life WILL come to pass. Your friends will be WoW friends.

So next time please don't be a douchewad and outright dismiss other people's opinions.

Perhaps you shouldn't try to pass off your opinions as facts? You are coming across very preachy and hostile against both us and against the game.

hehe i'm in the same dilema. my friends recently got back into it, and they have been trying to persuade me. on the one hand its very tempting to get back into the game i found great, but on the other hand i find that it takes up a great deal of time. but i suppose that shows how much fun i find it .. errugh i dunno XD

Great game, but I hesitate to join games this late when the core players are capped and doing content you may never see. If you have a group you can play with go for it., but you'll be 70 to 80 levels behind.

What are your priorities, what do you want to accomplish?

I think you'd be better off saving your money and continue to play/buy other good games.
