Repugnant, childish, and devoid of any of the intelligence or literary wit. Like most reviews those facts would be forgivable if it was in some way comedic. It's not, or maybe it's just that I am well past the point in my life where hearing a computer saying the word 'fuck' is funny.

Fans of profanity, TTS, Stephen Hawkings, and people who review games without playing them should love this one.
I think we can all be glad that the English language was at least intelligible in that review, as opposed to MGG...

A think a lot of people just figure, "Hey, that charismatic stallion Yahtzee rants about games, and he's funny. I can do that too."

Being angry, and swearing is only funny if you're witty, and have valid points. Many youtube videos fail to grasp this idea. This video is one of them.

lol people fail to see the reason why yahzee is good at what he does. sure hes an arse, but hes a quick witted and cunning arse. if he was just a jerk (like this guy) then he would sound exactly the same.

oh and lets not forget that yahzee is intelligent aswell. Goes to show that not everyone can do what he does.

I write reviews of bad or cheesy movies on my own personal blog. And I swear a lot in them. However, I like to think that the proof of my degree from the George Carlin School Of Restrained Profanity is evident to anyone reading my reviews.

Instead of, say, the diploma from the Fred Durst Vocational Technical Institute for Swearing, in which the "f" word loses all of its shock value in a big hurry. Which is where the punk who wrote this review graduated from.

I thought the graphics were okay; I'm just still trying to figure out what the connection is between Pamela Anderson and hatchbacks.

It was bad, very bad. I personally liked the review that some American guy did on YouTube, about Yahtzee's game "The Art of Theft"

I started watching with high hopes, then Microsoft sam started talking... and I got a little annoyed, then the first thing he said was "fuck me in the ass" at this point I closed the window.

This reviewer has no tact or wits, nothing is special about this review and it fails in every area possible.

I've only found one video that is Yahtzee-esque and it was actually a little too fast for me. This one that you have though, it sucked and had nothing in common with Zero Punctuation.

Mehh....Yahtzee is better at it, I hate those computer voice programs

In all honesty though its not that much of a surprise, there have been Cynical reviews for games out on the net for a long time, Yahtzee is just getting a lot of attention for it now thats all. In fact that why I'm afraid of writing a review in the user-review section cause I tend to throw humor and sarcasm in my reviews and it may come off as "Yahtzee-esque" to some
Don't let that stop you. I have a very similar sense of humor to Yahtzee, but I don't let that stop me from writing reviews containing it. If someone says I'm copying him, well... fuck them. I know I'm not copying anybody, and most people seem to like my reviews, so an accusation like that doesn't mean much to me at all. I imagine an accusation of plaigarism directed towards me would go a bit like this:

"You're copying Yahtzee!"
"No, I'm not."
"But you make jokes and are harshly critical, just like him."
"Yeah, well FDR and Hitler were both heads of state in the '30s and '40s who owned dogs. Do you think Hitler got a dog because he was copying another head of state who was also pulling his nation out of an economic depression, or do you think Hitler got a dog because he liked dogs?"
"lol Godwin's law, you lose."
"Great, that means you can go away, Mr. Winner, because these people who disagree with your accusations wish to comment on my review."

That would be funny, actually...

Strangely appropriate and not obscene and/or unintelligable.
20 stars out of a possible 4. I mean 5 out of 5.

Hahaha that vid is terrible.

I agree with what most people have said in this thread - swearing alone doesn't make a review funny, you also need to have wit, some sense of comedic timing, and an ability to THINK. So many people don't seem to understand that.

I think Yahtzee would be ashamed for people to call this similar in any way to his reviews. It's not.

Why thank you! I thought it was a fairly clever and relevant analogy.

Hm, I just actually watched the video, and i have to disagree with the criticism of using the Sam voice, because it actually made me smirk a little bit. However, I attribute this primarily to nostalgic memories of abusing text-to-speech technology with my friends in junior high school, and not the actual review.

You're right, the voice itself could be used for excellent reviews (not like Yahtzee's, though, but then again this one wasn't like it anyways). But its failure is pretty much its exsistence. It was completely, unnecessarily foul and hardly spoke about the game itself in any comprehendable way. He goes off on a two minute tangent about how the car is some 'Hitler car' with Pamela Anderson stuck in it? I mean, what does that have to do with anything? And the graphics being comparable to an NES or some other blocky thing was pretty unreasonable. It didn't have the best detail, but it was pretty smooth (especially the shots s/he used) albiet not shiny and sparkly.

I fully agree.

On another note, I just figured out how to use the speech-to-text thingy on my Mac, and am now using it to read anything and everything I see that may be funny in a computer voice. I seem to be in an easily amused state, tonight.

On a side note; a news paper here (netherlands) wrote a small article about zero punctuation and his reviews in the game section. They are quite positive about it, also put a pic next to it of one of his vids (where the witchers gamebox is humping the pc on a broomstick). The paper has between 1 and 2 million readers.
Expect some new forum people soon(?) ;)

I stopped at the "Need for Sperm" part. And I too liked the Yahtzee parody that guy did.

"Games can be saved in one of three available slots. This seems like a rather arbitrary limitation since it's not like I'm saving onto some one megabyte console memory card. I'm saving onto a SIX DRIVE RAID ARRAY WITH FULL DISTRIBUTED PARITY AND...uh...I'm in a modest 250 gig masterdrive."

The review itself is almost as childish as the youtube responses paying it out. It's pretty obvious that half of them came from people in this forum. Theres no need to defend or compare Zero Punctuation to it. The only thing they have in common is the fact that it is a video and there is swearing.

Swearing should only be used occasionally. Timing is the key. I'll never forget Armake21 saying "Oh shit! Monkeys!" in his review of Gilligan's Island, but most of the time it's just constant swearing to the point of meaningless. A good review ought to have decency present at least half the time.
