Today At My School Someone Lit Themselves On Fire.

A friend of mine who saw the event said that her class was interrupted by screaming that wouldn't stop, and they looked out into the hall and saw a student on fire with black smoke going everywhere.
She said that she saw his bones and skin melting and dripping on the floor.
They said it was a chemical fire, and it would have been impossible for it to have occurred accidentally.
The kid was taken to a burn center, and I heard he lost his arm and they don't know if he will live.

While the school was on lockdown for 2 hours, the cops found a kid that had a GRENADE, who was completely unrelated to the kid on fire.

No one at this school ever smiled again.

But for discussion value, what is a crazy/dangerous event to happen at your school?
Has anyone ever brought a FIREARM1 to school?

EDIT: Blah, double post. Could a mod please delete one of these?

Back in 1993 a student got kicked out of my high school for bringing a gun. It wasn't loaded and he didn't bring any ammo. He intended to use it to threaten the bully that was giving him shit---and having known the bully in question, I wouldn't have held it against Owen if he'd shot the kid.

Well one day a kid in my class overdosed on Acid, it was weird.

But a kid on fire plus a grenade is much more exciting.

A guy once bought a bunch of those energy boosters and drank them all at once, he started tripping out in the middle of class. He really flipped after he went to the nurses office because he thought the clock was trying to get him.

This one kid decided to come into school with his backpack loaded with bottlerockets. He placed one in each toilet, four under each stair case and a few in the ventilation system, and had the fuses all tied together onto one big fuse. Whether he actually managed to set them off, I doubt it, since the school is still standing (there's about 200 toilets in the school, and 5 staircases). It's been hushed up a lot here... our school has a track record for bullshit shenanigans.

Oh, and in '72, the first class to ever go here, someone thought it would be downright hilarious to set off cherry bombs in the bathroom down the hall the moment the valedictorian finished his speech.

growing up in Montana, i never had a serious threat at school. probably the most serious thing that ever happened (on school grounds anyway) was a huge brawl between a few skaters and a bunch of mexicans. dunno what caused it, but it was fun to watch. other than that, right after Columbine, my brother got profiled as a potential threat, because he always dressed funny. it was quite amusing.

Damn, that's one hell of a day. People have brought drugs into my school. And I think one kid had to be taken to a hospital because he had overdosed. And there are the occasional fights that rarely last that long.

Although I have also thought about lighting myself on fire at school. Not in the "I want to die" way, but in a prankish sort of way. Find that stuff that burns "cold" (doesn't actually burn what its on), wear some fireprook clothes, then light myself up and walk down the hallways. The cafeteria has the big long window-wall that goes along this one really long hallway. So essentially do this while a lunch is going on then just go down the bordering hallway. Whether I would run screaming or walk calmly I never figured out. Couldn't decide which would be more hilarious. Main reason that I never did is because I'm sure that I would be in some deep-shit. And not just with the school to, I'm sure that some other authorities wouldn't take kindly to something like this. And I'd probably have to had my mind checked out make sure I'm not insane ("I swear it was just some random idea I had while bored and walking down a hallway.")

Hope the one kid is okay. I hear burns hurt something fierce.

Well, I'm sure as hell not going to beat a grenade and self-immolation, much less on the SAME DAMN DAY.

The craziest thing that ever happened at MY old high school was occaisional long fire drills due to small accidents in the Chemistry labs or a fight every now and then.

There was, however, a greenhouse filled with dead cats for dissection. Which is odd, because I don't think we actually DO dissections at that school....

Nothing crazy like that has happened at my school. Only things that have happened that i know of is when some kids from another school came to our school to fight some kids (they got their asses handed to them) and yea that happened for like 4 days in a row.

Also, even though this wasn't a purpose attempt to cause themselves harm it was still pretty dangerous. Some kids in science were making 100% ethanol (I think its called that) and the teacher specifically told them not to ingest it because it would kill them. And the idiots took a little teeny drop of it each, and were knocked out for quite a while.

My school's excessively suburban. I think the worst that anybody's ever brought was a knife.

But one kid, while in A&P class, ingested a piece of a formaldehyde-covered cow heart. He got rushed to the hospital and had to take Ipecac or whatever it is that they make you take. He was then suspended for a day or two. He may have appeared to have lived it down, but I lost what little respect I had for him that day (he was one of those anti-authoritarian misfit types).

Dangerous? Well...last year, a bit of acid splashed into someone's face. He was quickly rinsed off and given medical attention (he was fine, if I'm not mistaken). The acid left in the room was quickly neutralized, leaving a large puddle of harmless water.

Then Hazmat showed up and saw the water. They didn't have a whole lot of chemistry knowledge, apparently; they could not be convinced that they weren't looking at a pool of acid. A section of the school was evacuated, and the local news got wind of the story. According to the news that day, we students were gripped by terror as we watched the maimed figure of our fallen comrade being rushed to the hospital in the aftermath of a massive explosion. Yeah, we got a few laughs out of that news story.

This isn't exactly my story, but one of my buddies told me a tale from his middle school days:

He once took 18 maximum strength ritalin tablets before school. The whole day he had his hands tightly gripped around the edge of his desk, eyes wide open, firmly convinced (and panicking therefore) that everyone was watching him. Funnily enough, they all were watching him and wondering why this little 14 year old kid was tripping out in class. After this event, he was forever known as 'that druggie kid,' a title he has since lived up to most admirably
