It crippled Fallout 3 for me.

When I removed it the game ran smoother, stuttered less, and became much more stable.
Plus the service itself is unnecessarily annoying and a pain in the ass.
Waaaaait, THAT's why Fallout 3 will just suddenly go Hhrrnnngh and stop dead?

A DRM measure?
Possibly, I removed it and found I had much less crashes. Mods that remove GFWL are the most beneficient patches you can make.

Plus, removing GFWL lets you use the Script Extender, which lets you use many of the more awesome mods.

Possibly. Either that or the fact that GFWL just straight up sucks ass.

I already pre-ordered it.

Is GFWL really that bad?

I presume that's with a crack that bans me from Steam?
It might I'm not sure. I didn't get the Steam version. I'd suggest against the Steam version, since it tends to mess with certain mods.

Not bad, just unnecessary garbage.
Kind of like Steam?

GFWL works great. It might have been bad a launch, but now it is a solid system that is only gaining in popularity/functionality.

What's GFWL and what does it do to hinder the experience?
It is an online service, much like Steam, that provides mutliplayer, achievements, friends, ect. It does just about everything Steam does, with Steam doing something things it doesn't and vice versa.

It does nothing to hinder gameplay, as long as you live in a supported country. Even then, Microsoft provides a loophole to allow you to play online anyway. People will use this as a con all the time, but they don't understand. In some countries it is illegal to buy consoles. Microsoft cannot support those countries, because the LIVE network is unified. Everything is connected.

Go to http://www.microsoft.com/games/en-US/index.aspx and download the client. In the client, you can get a free copy of Tinker. Test that out to see for yourself if it works for you. Most have never used it, but continue to hate on it regardless.
