Today I saw a TARDIS

Pah, us old schoolers have Police Boxes that are also coffee shops.

They don't all have me standing in front of them mind.
Also it doesn't actually look like a coffee shop I know but when you go round the other side the top of one side has been cut off and a nice girl sells hot drinks out of it.
That's Glasgow for you.

How's there even space for a coffee shop in one of these? Can't be comfortable to work out of one of these. Unless one has his own mascot like this one obviously.

I agree. I'd actually like to doubt the originality of this picture because I just can't believe people putting that up would be so inconsiderate as to put it like this.

Ironically, on the same street as that picture, there is an actual police phone, which looks much more futurey.

I was wondering the same thing, then I thought about it a bit, and came up with both a serious and a joking answer.

Joking: It's bigger on the inside, duh!

Serious: It's really not that hard when it comes down to it. Coffee machine, cups, and everything else go on one side, the server goes on the other, and the cash register is presumably behind the cashier. The front of the TARDIS police box coffee shop that I wish could travel throughout time and space is given a sufficiently large window on the right side, where the door normally is.

In short, it would work like this:

Even the menus to the sides of the shop could be rendered obsolete with enough effort. Just print them where the police box's instructions would normally go. Granted, the text would be extremely small, but that's what you get for an extremely compact coffee shop.

There's actually a few of them left in Glasgow. There's that one, another on the corner of Great Western Rd and Byers St (might be Dumbarton Rd, actually. The exact spot escapes me), and one on Glassford St that's still painted red (or was, last time I saw it.) Apparently they were all red in Glasgow, at one point. I suppose nobody would want their picture taken with them if they were anything but blue.

Heronblade: Fairly shortly after police telephone boxes were withdrawn from service I'd guess.

Not entirely accurate. This size/design was, but its slimmer cousins still exist, certainly in London.

I saw one once too. It didn't look like the one from the show but a phone booth randomly appear in the middle of nowhere. I mean an hour drive through a trail in the woods nowhere. It was working too, and a year later it disappeared. It was just extremely odd.

Well, it all comes down to the variety you offer. I also see "snacks" and "other drinks" so it probably needs a fridge too, hopefully the snacks are pre-made (I can't make out a word what's actually served unfortunately). I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm just saying it is probably not the most comfortable place to work out of due to space restrictions.

Last year there was one made of MDF making its way around town, it would show up somewhere, then be moved around in the middle of the night, so it would be in a completely different place the next day. It was actually pretty fun co-ordinating with friends around town trying to find it before the end of the day XD.

It's called the Crash of the Elysium. They did it last year in Manchester and now they're doing it in Ipswich. Apparently you need a child to accompany you if you're an adult, which pretty much rules out me getting to see it.

Meh, you act like police boxes aren't common anymore, next thing you'll tell me British men are all portly with chopburns and huge mustaches, and drive cars instead of horse pulled buggies, and that "Tally Ho!" and "God Save The queen" are not the most frequently words your likely to hear on an average street....

All joking aside, I have wondered why they keep using the whole "Police Box" thing even in the 2005 series. I can understand it being iconic and all, but after a certain point you have to wonder, I mean "Star Trek" updated their technology to com badges and such when they did most of the later series due to the communictors they had in TOS being a joke given how real tech had progressed.

I'm not a huge Doctor Who fan (always meaning to see more of it) but I'm pretty sure I've seen him turn it into other things. I'd imagine in visiting the modern era he'd want to say disguise it as a port-a-potty with a locked door and out of service sign or something. Given the Doctor's general insanity I could actually see him going overboard with "olfactory repellent" for a security system.

The TARDIS is stuck on "Police Box" and The Doctor doesn't know how to fix it. Or at least, that was the reason I was told.

It's possible, I'm no expert but I thought he actually had multiple TARDIS units through the stories. Starting with a Mk. 40 Tardis, moving up to a Mk. 102 Tardis which became sentinent, and then a Mk. 103 Tardis down the road which was even more so. Then there is also supposed to be a so called "Battle Tardis" which is supposed to be more than the Mk. 40, but kind of lame compared to the Mk. 102, and I think someone told me he never actually used one of those though other Time Lords have been seen using them when they went to war.

Ahh well, your answer is as good as any, when I have time to see more Doctor Who I'll probably get an answer. It does seem plausible though. I suppose it might be something that happened with the latest one he wound up with, while his earlier ones could change shape which is why I vaguely remember him doing it.
