Too many ads or something?

I don't know if it is just on my end or what, but the site has been running extremely slow the past few days. Only change I notice is the even more annoying ads they are forcing us to watch instead of captchas. Anyone else experiencing this?

And I know it isn't my internet speed, because any other website I go to opens immediately and here it takes literally about 30 seconds to switch pages...

The Escapist is really inconsistent when it comes to browsing it for me. Some pages take a second to load, while other take forever or don't load at all.

Good example being this thread, I opened it and close to a minute later it didn't load, so I went to the main page, went back to this thread and it loaded instantly.

You are not alone.
Most of the time all internet pages load quickly, but the Escapist is just making my internet connection schizophrenic.

The Escapist was running slow for me for a bit, we're talking load times in the seconds with failed page loads, for a bit. Other sites were loading fine. It seems that got cleared up though, today has been much better (especially recently). I haven't even been getting the advertising captchas, either.

I was just recently thinking, 'WOW, escapist, i know you need/want money, but haven't you inserted ENOUGH ads into this?'. i feeling like they are just putting more and more ads into every opportunity they can on this website, with banner ads, background adds, video ads, popups on videos, more popups in videos,captcha ads, etc.. I guess I can't blame them, I'd probably wind up doing the same thing if I owned a successful website. But still, i can't help feeling like the Escapist is taking advantage of my loyalty,

Yes, it is getting rather annoying.

Having to pause my music to listen to an unbearably stupid advertisement while waiting around 30 seconds for a page to load is starting to get more and more irritating.

They're really just trying to stuff ads in every place they can, aren't they?

ok, the ads are getting so bad that i am actually re-enabling adblock on this site
i had it disabled for a long time here because the ads on this site were actually ok, and for trustworthy sites, but the quality has plummeted and the volume has exploded, so, adblock is back

Well, not for use of them, because they can't tell, but for talking about/advocating using them they do. I get that it's pretty much the site's only source of income, but it's a pretty draconian policy, and the rest of the Internet seems to manage ok without resorting to "if we pretend really hard that it doesn't exist, maybe it won't for real" tactics when it comes to things like that. It's nearly silly enough to have stopped me from "I AGREE"-ing to the last ToS update.

I'm aware of that, though of all the problems I've had to deal with, that's one of the smaller irritations. Not that I'm arguing with you. The Captchas and all are annoying to a high degree.

A while ago I tried to make a new thread using Firefox and for some reason the captcha wasn't showing up. So I had to login using IE.

Oh my God what a mess. IE was constantly crashing because of the adds. Give me a break people. After loading the new thread window I hit escape right away and the adds didn't load. Then I was able to make the thread.

Of course IE crashed as soon as I submitted it. Needless to say, I didn't reopen it.

Shhhh...... You'll get yourself banned for advocating ad blockers. Friendly warning.

Anyways, I think it's turned into a goddamn extortion attempt at this point. Either pay us $20 a month or experience pure internet browsing hell. We've even called them out on this, but they're becoming money obsessed like Activision or EA. It's kind of sad too, I really like this site.

I signed up to the publishers club and it still runs slow occasionaly for me. Its been like that for me ever since Lulzsec hit it (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-13777129) though so I just assumed the two were linked.
