Too many pop up ads

I work in advertising and I am well aware of the need to generate revenue, however I am really getting over the increasing number of pop up ads appearing on the escapist. The footer ad in particular is frustrating. I have a 15" screen on my laptop and this ad covers a large portion of my viewing space. I know I can just close it but that in itself is annoying every time I go to a new page. Recently I've also started getting other pop up ads appearing on the right hand side.

Does anybody else find these ads annoying? I ask purely to generate feedback for the escapist. As a consumer I am negatively impacted by these ads so there is no chance I will click-through to take advantage of any offers on them or formulate a positive image of a brand advertising there. Just to clarify, I have no issue with banner, skyscraper or mrec ads; it is just the pop up ones I am complaining about.

Not anymore, the El Shaddai thing died out. Also, unless you've paid for the Pup club or whatever that thing you subscribe to on the Escapist, you're technically not a customer, but a guest. This is coming from a certified commercial artist.

Yes, they are getting fairly annoying, the "Play Witcher 2 in your browser FOR FREE" is getting on my nerves.

It also doesn't help me when at the top, it says "Sponsored by the escapist". And that's what grinds my gears.

I guess I'm old, when I read the thread title, I thought it was referring to ads that actually appear in new windows or tabs. "Pop ups? Surely with every major browser now being tabbed and including a pop up blocker, not to mention better methods available, advertisers have given up on that method" is what I thought.

>.>

<.<

OP has a point though, I do not know why advertisers think that suddenly covering some or all of the content on a site is a good way to drum up legitimate business. Ads should not interfere with or obstruct content areas unless interacted with.

Perhaps people are just that stupid. /sigh.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind if it popped up every few pages or so but every single page is starting to get a little annoying honestly. This is the kind of ad I would avoid like the plague for fear of it having a virus or something in it. I don't mind the rest of the ad's myself but this one is just annoying to me. D:

Glad to know atleast I'm not the only one seeing it though, that makes me feel better.

Well the sad but true thing is, theres full page adverts around content, with video adverts before the content.

And the even sadder thing is, it's not like the escapist is really providing anything that different from most other sites :\

I stupidly clicked on the ad and nothing happened but I heard about gaikai before so I thought it was something legit. went to the site directly with google search and downloaded a java plug in from it. I hope I didn't make a big mistake. Did play witcher 2 on a browser which was interesting. Just hope it is safe! I'm usually so fucking paranoid. But I was just curious to see what witcher 2 played like. (going to get on the 360 since I don't have a real 3d card and the combat definitely seems to be designed for controllers)

I haven't gotten pop ups, just regular ads, THANK YOU CHROME!
I've got Chrome too but I still got one. Bad luck maybe?
Well, by definition of pop up, is an ad makes a new window appear on the site its advertising. I haven't got any of those.
