The only thing I can say is the older you get, the more "refined" your tastes become, and that could be a problem if the evolution of gaming is going to a direction your tastes are not situated.

So, the older you get, the more games you're likely not to like IMHO

yup, tons of discussion content here. to ask a question like that is like asking most people if 2+2=4...

but because i've already started typing, no. as with most things in life, you are rarely ever too old to do something. that being said, as i'm finding out as i grow up, i have less time to game due to other commitments in life (work, final year at uni, living with girlfriend etc), but that need not be true for everybody. claiming no older people can play games is retarded,

stereotypes are bad yo

Isn't the average age of game-players close to 30? And the most frequent video game purchasers around 40? So yeah, never too old. Just like books, films, etc. No different. You don't outgrow mediums. Hell, I still like pop-up books. And I'm 22. Even things intended for children are made by adults. I'm sure everyone can think of a joke in a cartoon they saw as a kid that had some hidden humour that you didn't get until you grew up.

Heh, my mother owns an old arcade console (one of those cabinet ones - along with a pinball machine, actually), and she's 65. You're never too old!

Yeah kinda, I mean I just get too busy with stuff. Play games or go ride the dragon on my motorcycle, play games, or go skiing, play games or go to the lake, play games or travel somewhere on the bike, play games or go watch a sporting event. Play games or watch arrow/psych/got/justified/true detective/AoS/HIMYM/Brooklyn nine-nine. Increasingly gaming has bee losing out to all those.

Who are these "some people" I keep hearing about?

And "video games" is a very broad generalization. If I saw my 50yo brother-in-law play a LeapFrog Explorer Learning Game, then yes I would wonder if he`s maybe too old for that video game... I find it hard to believe that in this day and age "some people" do not seem to know that there`s all kinds of games for all kinds of people.

No, you can never be too old to love video games, I never understood people claiming that you "outgrow" something, it's a hobby and if you enjoy it why should it matter what age you are?

You're never too old to play video games, however you should become too old to play them all day.Any mature adult should have priorities that are more important than playing videos games. The same could be said about tv, watching movies, or any hobby. Anyone who says that playing video games is immature but wastes hours doing something like watching tv is only trying to make themselves feel better about themselves.

My dad played Age of Empires well into his 50s so there's that point of reference for me. He used to play with/against his bro, who's even older than he is.

I played the heck out of that game when I was little. It is a very addictive game.

OT:
I read somewhere that the average gamer is 37. So this question is easy for me to answer.

Nope. I know a 58 year old Surgeon who is one of the best in his field, has been playing video games for over 25 years. Once you're a Surgeon, I think people pretty much aren't allow to consider you 'immature'.

Whether there is or isn't an age that is considered too old to play video games is kind of irrelevant in my opinion.

I've always been of the idea that while growing older is mandatory, growing up is optional.

Nope, never too old for videogames.

Hell, I'm looking forward to getting old and retiring so I actually have the time to play all the games I have :D

When my eyesight fails me and my hands can no longer grip the controls, on that day I will be to old for video games. Until then, better make room for this old man on the couch 'cause I'm not leaving any time soon.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I remember back when I played tf2, I used to play on a party server and a lot of us knew each other. One day a kid came on and he seemed blown away that adults were playing videogames. A lot of us on the server were 20+ and he just could not wrap his head around it. I don't know what he thought adults did, but it certainly wasn't games.

Some games may require reflexes and dedication that older people don't have. Other than that, no. You're never too old.

Nope, you are never really too old to enjoy something you love. However, I suppose there is an age where your reflexes and eyesight aren't as good as they used to be. When that happens I'll probably stick to RPGs

Age poll on a flight sim forum (which is a game still even though some people do not like to call it that)

so yeah We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

I think the C.W. Lewis quote said it best.

Just like other things, like reading or television, there are things not aimed at your particular age demographic, or you lose interest in over time, but you don't outgrow reading or television as a whole just like you don't outgrow gaming.

But from what you've said you aren't too old for them, you're choosing to do other activities. When you have less time to go to to sporting events, will you be too old to go to sporting events?
