Within the week, someone has created a Counter-Strike map based on Osama Bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

I don't know about you guys, but I am thoroughly amused by this. I would even go so far as to suggest that BlackOps get in on this... assuming of course, it would be free DLC.

there's no such thing as 'too soon' when it comes to his death

well you ant exactly stop individual people from doing it even if it is too soon. Personally I don't care so long as it's a good map. Should professional devs start doing it though, I'm not sure. I have no respect for the man but my attitude is more 'Now he's dead, can we just forget he ever existed as soon as possible'

I don't see how time can decide whether something us acceptable to joke about or not, unless the joke is to somebody involved in whatever it is, as that's just insensitive.

'Murika. Nuff said.
I'd very much like to meet this 'Murika. Could you give me her number?

Anyway, it just seems kind of silly to me, since your typical Counter-Strike match is nothing like the actual Bin Laden raid. Also, it's hard for me to feel that it's "too soon" for a terrorist mastermind that's responsible for the deaths of many thousands of civilians around the world.

Jon Stewart was on the next night with a hell of lot of one-liners about Bin Laden and him being killed. I can't imagine there will be much to be said about this.

That... actually sounds pretty cool. I may just fire CSS up to see it, and how much detail the map maker put into it.

Too soon? It's been nearly a week, almost a month in Internet time. Nothing is too soon.

I don't know. I can't say I care either way, though it does bring up the issue of 'too soon?'
For things like 9/11 it will probably always be too soon. Wounding the pride of a nation and killing innocents is not something that will ever be funny, but then it's ok to make fun of the enemy?

I think that for many people that were in those attacks or lost loved ones, making light of the terrorists involved is like making light of the atrocious event itself.
It's much like the Nazis. They're now an object of ridicule in pretty much every media format available but it seems to dumb down the gravity that their actions had on the world. These people were responsible for countless deaths but it's ok to have them prancing about being ridiculous? I think this article explains my feelings on it better:

Of course it's not too soon. It's never too soon.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to my game of Skyjack. I still can't get past that last damn civilian, the one wielding the fire extinguisher. And of course the one time I did get past him I went and rammed the wrong tower and got sent all the way back to the airport section. Bloody typical.
