What I REALLY miss about Toonami were the BRILLIANT editing into the intro's and promos they did for their shows. Take the Batman TAS promo. I grew up watching that show- but when they brought it onto Toonami, with original music in the promo, and the noir type editing and voice over narration by Peter fucking Cullen
Holy shit, I was already excited to see a show that I'd already seen many times over, again!


Combine that with really good editing, narration and original (Good!) music throughout the whole block, and you constantly had a feeling that everyone working on production really enjoyed what they were doing and really enjoyed the programming they were putting out as well.
But what I always remember are the promos, the voice of Peter Cullen that still sends shivers down my spine with the gravity of his performance and just how they actually made you want to watch the show. Toonami understood trailers, promotion and presentation to really get kids in my age range at the time really interested.

I sort-of remeber toonami they even aired it here in holland on a now debunked channel called Yorin they had a toon block with toonami in it I could remeber the airing Cyborg 009, Gundam Wing and Sailor moon I miss it now the only channels I get suck! most of the cartoon channels exclusivly air fucking sitcoms! wich are horribly dubbed!

I do, but I was really young, I didn't even know his name. I just remember his orange helmet and low voice. I always thought that Thunder Cats and Voltron were the best shows ever. Then the schedule change and I was pissed... until Dragon Ball Z or Superfriends started. Yeah bright, colorful lights was all you need when you're 6

I didn't even know what anime was when I first tuned to toonami...it was just awesome cartoons to me.
I remember one night of awesomeness when they showed nothing but music videos, including interstella 5555, which got me into Daft Punk.

I think almost everyone I know watched Toonami when they got cable. I'd get home from school, cook ramen, and watch as much Toonami as I could handle... I miss Tom.

Toonami was the SHIT. I was so enraged when they moved it from weekdays to Saturdays. Once it was there, it really went downhill. I miss Zoids, Yuyu, Zatch Bell, Bobobo, Gundam etc...

Now Cartoon Network is just shit like Flapjack

I don't know how they're justifying live action shows on a channel called Cartoon Network, but when is the last time MTV (Music Television) had more time allotted to music than shitty reality shows? It's all about ratings, and cramming the time with 'entertaining programming'.

Ahh good times good times. I can name so many shows that I enjoyed on that block. Hell even Sailor Moon. Ha, ha.

But yes the Kings of that Block will always be DBZ, Samurai Jack, and Megas XLR.

Naruto to an extent since at the end of the toonami cycle before Cartoon Network canned it. It was the only anime infact the only show I can remember that was worth watching.

I mean I really think that's what happened to that block. They relied too much on Naruto as a crutch at the end of it's cycle with no other intreasting anime. I mean Zatch Bell was okay and they got the good dub of One Piece by funmation on for a bit, but...personally they started showing that anime at one of it's very weakest points in the entire series. I mean seriosly nothing of any significance happened during the flying island Arc, it was boring and pointless!

Never the less long live Toonami for what it was. As for cartoons going down in quality. American wise for the most part yeah it really has gone down hill... a lot. I mean the only cartoons I can see as redeming in this sloth we have are.

Ben 10 all the versions, Generator Rex, and Titan AE and thats for the kid show cartoons. American wise there's a few more like Venture Fucking Brothers of course.

As for the statement of anime well I would say yes and no to that. Back in toonmai's day what we got dubbed over here in the states was considered the cream of the crop I really think or continutions of really popular series... like DBGT.... However now with the anime boom and such we pretty much get all the anime they have. Pretty much so they dub it over and we get so we now see anime isn't perfect, nothing is, there are going to be weaker shows and then really awesome shows like Kenichi The Worlds Strongest Disciple!

They're Dutch, but you get the idea.

Now these were cartoons.

There was a Dutch Wizard of Oz? Wow. I find it interesting and kind of funny how The Wizard of Oz has become an internationally beloved fairy tale considering the fact that the book was satire of late 19th century American politics.

OT: Yeah I loved Toonami. The ideas and emotions conveyed in shows like Gundam Wing, Outlaw Star and the Big O were things I'd been exposed to only briefly in movies or less powerfully in books. I don't know if they helped shape who I am but they were certainly powerful.

Ugh, now I've gotten all nostalgic.

Ah Toonami, I have you to thank for bringing Dragonball Z and Gundam Wing into my life.
Plus Samurai Jack and Cowboy Bebop although I only watched a few episodes of Samurai Jack and Cowboy Bebop was the confusing "big boys show" that my brother watched (Don't worry, I'm all caught up now)

I was very sad when Toonami finally shut off, even if it was really bad at the end. I remember Steven Blum, as TOM, literally saying a goodbye message at the end of the program block, which took me by surprise because I had not watched it in years.

However, a friend showed me that Toonami: Jetstream is actually alive on the net, and you can watch all the old shows as much as you want. ;]

It wasn't Dutch, this is simply the dubbed version of a Japanese cartoon.

Back in the 80's and 90's there were a lot of Japanese cartoons based on fairy tales and famous literature, like Pinocchio, The Swiss Family Robinson, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Wizard of Oz.

Those were good times.

LEGEND!!! Arguably the strongest warrior in history. The episode where the Yeti's spent the entire thing creating a legendary blade only for Jack to walk in 2 minutes from the end and finish the fight in 1 slice just sums my argument up. He was just awesome.
