Obviously it has to be. I always say this, say what you want about the gameplay and story of Sonic games, but you can't deny that they have really good and memorable music in them.
Heck even 06 has very good songs like Kingdom Valley and obviously Crisis City.

Speaking of Crisis City, GET A LOAD OF THIS!

What I like about Crisis City is that among all the hate that Sonic 2006 got, it's still well liked. I kinda hoped it would be a track in Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed with the Classic theme as BGM. It would have kicked ass.

I'm sure someone is making modded tracks for it on the PC version. Heck look at the modding community for Sonic Generations, it is really impressive with some of the things they've done.

I'm going to stick mostly with 2D era games, cos well, that's what I know when it comes to the Sonic games.

In no real order:

Sonic 3 - Angel Island Zone Act 2
Sonic 2 - Aquatic Ruin
Sonic 3 - Ice Cap Zone Act 1
Sonic 2 - Death Egg Zone - kinda creepy, I thought.
Sonic 1 - Starlight Zone
Sonic & Knuckles - Flying Battery Act 1
Sonic & Knuckles - Act 1 Boss Music (I remember "finding" this music by accident during the act 1 boss fight in Hydrocity and thinking how much better it was than the Sonic 3 miniboss music)

Sonic CD - Tidal Tempest (Bad Future)
Sonic 3 - Final Boss Music
Sonic & Knucles - Doomsday Zone

It was surprisingly hard to pick just 10 there. That took a while.
