The BEST three games would probably be:

Team Fortress 2
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Halo: Reach

They aren't my *favorite* games, but I think they're the best from this generation. Bioshock, Half-Life 2: Episode 2, and Time Crisis 4 are ?among? the candidates for my *favorite* games.

I didn't include Portal, Mirror's Edge, or the like because they're not really shooters, so to speak. Portal is more of a puzzler, and Mirror's Edge is more of a platformer.

Orange Box
CoD4
DE:HR

If HL2 and TF2 are separate, knock CoD4 off if we consider SP also.

1. Call of Duty 4
2. Halo: Reach
3. Half Life 2

In that order.

Special mention to TF2 because that's very fun too.

hmmmmm...
Halo: Reach: one of the best games ever

Fallout New Vegas: great gameply and great story, just buggy as heck.

Crysis 2: rather fun gameplay though story is lacking, but sneaking up on a ceph and stabbing it in the throat never gets old.

Yes I haven't play many shooters kk.

Halo: Reach (best all around imo, great story concept, gameplay, and visuals)

Bioshock (Best story and world and having "magic" abilities was fantastic)

Fallout 3 (best mix of genres, customization both in character and story is awesome)

1) Metro 2033 - Amazing gameplay, amazing story, and has it's moments of horror and beauty, often rolled into one moment. Like Librarians vs Demon.
2) Crysis Warhead - It wasn't anything new; More combat focused than the original, but it was a blast to play, especially at the end, when you get the Zeus Cannon (AKA PAX Cannon)
3) Team Fortress 2 - I usually HATE multiplayer games. Guess which multiplayer game I've spent more time with than any other? This one. Because gameplay is BALANCED,so long as everyone has a decent amount of skill. Which is common.

1. Mirror's Edge (favorite game ever)

2. I dunno lol. Far Cry 2?

3. ...Crysis. I don't play FPSs much.

(Note: I draw the line for "FPS" somewhere between Portal and Mirror's Edge, which is why Portal isn't on here.)

I'm going by the most standard definition of FPS -- no first person RPGs, no puzzle games, etc.

1.) Crysis
2.) Left 4 Dead
3.) er, I guess Bioshock/F.E.A.R tie

While I like all four of those games, when you consider that last gen gave us the likes of Half-Life 2, UT2K4, Escape From Butcher Bay, Far Cry, No One Lives Forever 2, Undying, etc. it makes this gen look kind of sad. Don't even get me started on the gen before that.

Mhh... Tough call... I mean, how do we classify "this gen"?

Based on the average timeline people are going with, I'm going to say, under no specific order:

1) TF2, pre-trash updates - It was just a very, very, solid and tight game. Now it's ok, I guess... Worth playing, but no longer the landmark it was.
2) L4D - Because it brought something new and never before seen (like that at least) to the table. Yes, L4D2 is a better game, and renders L4D mostly obsolete, but for the most part it's "more of the same". The way the single player campaigns are built, the director, the nice pacing...
3) BF:BC2 - Despite the terrible support by DICE/EA, mostly due to a rushed out "patched up" test engine, the game itself was fantastic, particularly the terrain interaction. BF:BC2 is like playing your favorite Hollywood action movie, and that is awesome. The ambiance from BC2 is something you don't find in other games.

I know it's "top 3", but I honestly can't leave one of these out, so I gotta mention:

4) Portal - "It's not a first person shooter!". Yes it is. It's first person, and you spend the majority of the game shooting stuff (portals in this case). That's how you solve the puzzles. It's not a "first person killer", but it's definitely a "first person shooter". Portal is, simply put, one of the best games ever made in any genre. It's beautiful, clever, innovative, well designed and just...damn near perfect.

So my "top 4" is basically 3/4ths Valve. Go figure.

)rStrangelove]GTA4
Third person.

)rStrangelove]Oblivion
Third person and not a shooter.

[Edit:Apparently Oblivion can be first person. Still not a shooter.]

Not sure if Portal really qualifies as a "shooter"... more of a puzzle game but deserves a mention anyway. I guess you do shoot portals if not bullets.

Portal aside, my top 3 list is:
1. CoD4
2. Bioshock
3. Left4Dead
