In descending order from most loved to fifth most loved:
1. Primus (Best. Band. Ever. Bar none. Every single element of their music, from the instrumentation to the lyrics to the songwriting is absolutely flawless. And, seriously, have you ever heard a better bass player than Les Claypool? The man is inhuman.)
2. They Might Be Giants (It's weird that this band gets most of its attention from its cult following, considering that they've written 4 or 5 of the best pop songs of the past 30 years)
3. The Clash (Come on, do I really have to explain this one? They're the fucking Clash! The only band that matters!)
4. Faith No More (The fact that this band was able to find mainstream success is nothing short of a miracle; Angel Dust is, quite possibly, the densest, most gleefully demented album ever released by a major label. They're also the epitome of Crazy Awesome.)
5. Deftones (The band that should have dictated where "Nu Metal" went; Their mix of post-rock, groove metal and dream pop is one of the most intriguing, original sounds in recent memory. If people had tried to copy these guys instead of trying to ape Korn or Limp Bizkit, Nu Metal could have been able to sustain itself as a genre, not to mention it would've been far more accepted by critics)
Edit: Since a bunch of you guys are posting runner-up lists, I thought I'd do my Runner-Up Top 10, in no particular order.
1. Frank Zappa
2. Rage Against The Machine
3. Municipal Waste
4. of Montreal
5. Gama Bomb
6. Mastodon
7. Death
8. Neutral Milk Hotel
9. Rush
10. Elvis Costello & The Attractions/The Imposters
And another quick plug for my band, Exiled. Check us out on facebook. Debut album out August 14th.
