1. Ayane (DoA). I feel I have to put my main character for what I consider to still be my main fighting series. Good memoires of when I was younger and being unplayable at times with Ayane (this was against my friends though). Kinda sad that if I was to play DoA now I'd most likely be garbage.

2. Cammy (Street Fighter). Part of me is pathetically drawn to Cammy. She's British as well which is always a plus.

3. Kung Lao (MK). He has razor-rimmed hat, need I say more.

4. Bryan (Tekken). My main in Tekken since he was introduced. I love the fact that he is unhinged cyborg. Heard he is not in Street Fighter X Tekken, I am not happy about that.

5. Rose (Street Fighter). One of my favourite character designs in across all games, not just fighting games. She would place higher but I've always just outright sucked using her, which is a shame.

Shoutouts to Xianghua from Soul Cali and Vertigo from Primal Rage.

5. Garuda from the EX Street Fighter series. The physical manifestation of all the souls that over the ages got ripped apart from using the Satsui No Hado. You think Akuma and Ryu have it in for each other ? Wait until this guy shows up. Plus, he is the only SF character that can actually make opponents bleed.

4. Ermac. Same principle but he is a bit cooler cause he wears a mask and has telekinesis. He exists simply because of a cromatic error that appeared in MK3 and got to be his own character, a warrior made up from thousands of souls.

3. Spider-Man from the MVC games for obvious reasons.

2. Akuma from SF. Weirdest and most badass Ultra in the entire game. Mastery over him requires not just timing but knowing when to use it since it is so easy to avoid.

1. Paul Phoenix from Tekken. A dreamer in the shape of a tank, anyone can relate to Paul Phoenix. Wanting to be the best while drowning in debt. He is the only character non-Mishima character in the series that has come close to winning a tournament, having beaten Ogre in Tekken 3. Badass hair and strongest punches in the game.

Actually, he first "appeared" in the first game, believe it or not. Played MK9 with the throwback outfits? His says "MK1", which is what that references. He just didn't become his own character until the third game (well... Ultimate 3, but same difference).

Only played a few fighting games, but here goes:

Kilik -- Soul Calibur
Talim -- Soul Calibur
Zidane -- Dissidia Final Fantasy
X-23 -- Marvel vs. Capcom 3
Phoenix Wright -- UMvC3 (though I have yet to play it. xD)

These are in no particular order.

2. Amaterasu (UMVC3 and Vanilla) Mash forward-H to win... God she's awesome
I really like Amaterasu as well, but I don't think being able to win by mashing a certain button makes her awesome. It makes the players that do that cheap and often lazy. :p
Wow quote notification fail. Lucky I decided to double check the thread XD.

Anyway, I know Ammy needs to do a lot more than mash forward H to do well. (like mash forward H into launcher into hyper XD)

I just find the Reflector to be the best out of all her weapons, the beads are too slow, the glaive has a really short range and the Reflector is pure win.

And I find that when i'm against her, she seems to go all "ludicrous speed" so the basic Reflector combo always bloody catches me. Probably because Phoenix Wright can't move for shit and advancing guard into evidence back into defence just doesn't work against her basic jumping dash into Reflector combo (which i use way too much myself).

And i just found out that her throw can carry on into a combo if you hit them with a medium on the way back down. SCIENCE!

Oh yeah and Phoenix Wright is totally awesome. It annoys me that everyone that i've seen in the competitive UMVC3 scene spent all of 5 minutes on him, declared him to be fucking terrible and all moved on to variations of Team Trenchcoat

Oh god fucking dammit, forum ate my post....I'm not gonna write out the big descriptions I had so I'll settle with the brief. I limit it to one character per game to be fair.

I like all these characters for more practical reasons instead of "because he's teh awesome", which a lot of players tend to go by. How well these characters work with me and the game mechanics, their synergy, is what matters most. Them being awesome in the aesthetic and personality department is merely a plus.

5. Gabranth (Dissidia/Dissidia Duodechim). While he starts out pretty weak at the beginning of each battle, he quickly turns into a killing machine once that helmet goes on and the lance get separated. Also the owner of the most awesome looking finishing move in the game.

4. Baek (Tekken-series). This guy has some nasty kicks and some sweet combos. Fun to use and (in the right hands) can be hard to beat. Did I mentioned he is awesome?

3. Ken (Street Fighter-series) Down right fun to use. Might be a little cheap to use because he is easy to play as, but against the right foe, it becomes fair.

2. Mike Haggar (MvsC3/UMvsC3) Awesome, badass and powerfull at the same time. Vote Mike Haggar for Major this year too!

1. Misturugi (SoulCalibur-seriers) 10-hits combos? No problem. Swift and powerfull attacks? No problem. My favorite SoulCalibur Character? You bet :)

Might as well,

1. Hanzo Hattori (Samurai Shodown)
2. Shin Akuma (CvS 2) or Chun Li
3. TIE Nightmare/Ivy/Voldo (Soul Calibur)
4. Lei WuLong (Tekken)
5. Vermillion (Toshinden)

Hanzo gets top billing because...well, just because. One of the most notorious names of antiquity associated with shinobi given digital flesh and treated with respect. Honorable mention to Psylocke from Xmen:CotA for cool ninja-ry with the clones and duplicates and head games. But Hanzo is the OG.
Shin Akuma? I was going to try to betray the little shoto in each of us and say Chun Li, as she is the premier SF spokesfighter-person. Woman. Police Officer. Whatever.

Namco character development skills! "I'll show you... the greatest nightmare..." was one of the coolest winquotes from this badassed demonic knight with it's resident evil infected arm, and that huge sword. But then again there is Ivy, and she didn't make it on the list just because of her boobs. Although, I'm sure it helped somewhat. The concept of fighting with a segmented sword is phenomenal, and Namco really gives [that sword], and Ivy herself a beautiful, maniacal, and sadistic spirit. She and that sword were truly made for one another. Voldo almost made the list too, but there might be laws against that sort of thing here.

Lei Wulong. First off, let's dispense with the bullsh*t. It's Jackie Chan. I gotta say, Tekken (mostly after part 2) became one of my favourite franchises Just because it had the balls to take all of the stars from all of your favourite martial Arts movies and put them in a fighting game. How bad assed is that? Bruce Lee? Jet Li? Sonny Chiba? Even Blade is in there. But Jackie Chan, with all of those classic quirky Jackie Chan antics, fighting from the ground, switching up stances in the ring all hit that nice nostalgic yearning for Saturday afternoons with poorly dubbed but excellently choreographed fights. Tekken is as close to being in a Shaw Brothers film as many of us are going to get.

Lastly Verm. Vermillion made the list, from this series that we are all gradually forgetting about, Toshinden. Weapons based fighter, everyone was all swinging around swords and clubs and everything was all nice and happy untill this guy showed up. Packing a friggin Pistol and a sawn off double barreled shotgun. I never played him, but my roommate at the time of Toshinden 2 only and exclusively played Vermillion. Very fun fights. Plus, I like to think that Vermillion paved the way for the likes of Cable & Jill(MvC 2), Chris & Wesker (MvC3), those two gun toting characters from Bushido Blade 2 (my favourite weapons based fighter? perhaps...), that extra cheesy shotgunning cowboy from Samurai Shodown Sen, and Fox McCloud and his crew from the Smash Brother's side of things, making projectiles the norm as opposed to the exception.

Its hard to come up with a list of characters like this without rules so I imposed one for myself. No more than one character from any one franchise on the list!

2. Captain America - Various Capcom Fighters (Most notably MvC serious)
3. Smoke - Mortal Kombat
4. Cammie - Street Fighter
5. Shredder - TMNT Tournament Fighter (AKA: Balrog with a Shredder skin and projectile deflect)
