I recently finished the last of the night angel trilogy and am looking for a new fantasy/sci-fi series. I figured I could ask the community at the escapist for any suggestions

Glen Cook's Black Company Series.

10 books long and more to come... at some point. You get magic and fantasy along with a dark story and some damned good war scenes. Think Lord of the Rings, but less jewelry and singing.

Edit: Chances are I don't do the book justice by describing it; here's Wikipedia's synopsis [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Black_Company#Plot_summary]

Well of Darkness by Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weis.

Despite being horribly named, it is seriously the greatest fantasy book I have read.

Dark Elf Trilogy by R.A. Salvatore. Its based in the Forgotten Realms - and the main character, Drizzt, is badass.

I've also heard the Song of Ice and Fire series is really good, though I haven't checked it out myself.

You cannot go past Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen series.

Way better the George RR Martin's Fire and Ice.

Oh, i don't recommend reading it unless you can keep track of a story of massive scope.

If you like Star Wars as I do. Read the Dark Nest...it's a trilogy containing the Joiner King, The Unseen Queen, and The Swarm War.

If you liked those theres another set of books callthe Legacy of the force containing...Betrayal Bloodlines, Tempest, Exile, Sacrifice, Inferno, Fury, Revelation and Invincible

The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud. It's set in modern London and has some great magic in it. It's also very well written, and all the characters are memorable. At least to me.

Also... Paula Volsky's "Sorcerer's" trilogy. It might not be that great. I've never heard anyone mention her before, but I love her books.

R. Scott Bakker. Just... R. Scott Bakker. He is a genius writer.

In particular, the Prince of Nothing trilogy, and his currently running Aspect Emperor sequel trilogy.

Garrett P.I. series by Glen cook- Written like a 50's detective/noir novel but in a fantasy setting. like 11 or 12 books out right now.

The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher- Modern day wizards an stuff. 11 books out so far, all of them good. Has some great lines an humor at times.

Greywalker series by Kat Richardson- another modern fantasy series, pretty good. 4 books out so far.

Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind. Im about to start the 5th book now. Pretty good so far but I hear they kinda drag towards the end. 12 books so far.

Neverwhere and American Gods both by Neil Gaiman. Pretty good books. No connection to each other though both are set in the modern day. Dunno if you would call them fantasy perse but they are good nontheless. Though a warning, Americans Gods can pretty graphic and disturbing at points.

I second both Erikson and Cook. These men craft the finest fantasy novels that have been written in the last fifty years.

Also, look for Ian Cameron Esselmont's Malazan stuff, he's not as good as either Cook or Erikson, but a damn site better author than Brent Weeks.

My favourite Fantasy series is that of Sergai Lukyanenko. The "Nightwatch" series is one of my -if not- my favourite series of books.
