Apologies if it's been done!

1: GTA: San Andreas
I've spent so much time with this game it's not even funny. GTA:VC may have nailed the atmosphere and vibe but hearing the rock channel while burning round LA was just amazing. So much to do and explore.

2:Resident Evil: Nemesis
This game made me realise that games could make you feel something. Even if it was just pure f@ckin' terror.
The game that made me a gamer.

3: Fallout 3:
As above. But this one rewards repeated plays and there is always something just around the next corner. Beautifully realised. I actually felt like I've spent too much time there. It gets a little overwhelming and depressing after a while.

4: Vib Ribbon:
A true one off. I've never seen anything like it since. Hopefully this will come to the PSN at some stage because it was sadly overlooked at the time. The music is genius.

5: ROME: Total War
Turned me into the Ancient history enthusiast I am today and made me a a confirmed gamer over anything else.
I could lose days in this game and it became my first online experience. Playing with someone in Canada blew my mind at the time.

Honourable mentions go to:
Rock Band / Guitar Hero
Burnout: Takedown
Shadow of Rome
Singstar.

Technically, we can only say games of this year, because 2010 is the start if a new decade.

Just saying.

Now that the title has been changed, I will say (out of the games I play):
Halo
Burnout 3: Takedown
Portal
GTA 4
DiRT

Now that i have completed work on my personal flame shield, i will go ahead and suggest that the halo series would be in my top 5. keyword being my top 5. I don't trust you guys to not go rabid on me without making that as clear as i can.

The civilisation series may get a spot within the five games, i just finished a game on civ 3 now so it's certainly got replayability even after all those years ago i got it. Timesplitters also has a spot, i loved that game series and morn it's loss.

I'm sorry that i don't have 5, or a particulary order i just wouldn't know what should go where.

Deus Ex.

Followed by the STALKER series. Beats the hell out of any post apocaliptic style (because it wasn't actually post apocaliptic) survival sim.

Oh and probably HALO1 third actually, with saints row 2 fourth. I dont know what'd be fifth for me.

But Deus Ex for PC. Best Game Ever.

EDIT oh I forgot about the GTA series - either GTA:London or GTA:2 = fifth best game ever.

I will have to go with games that have a lasting impact on video games.

Halo
Guitar Hero
Grand Theft Auto 3
God of War
World of Warcraft

My personal favorites would be Fallout 3, Portal and KOTOR. (Ok, maybe WoW for the first year or two I played. I just spent so much damn time on that not to mention it.)

KotOR
Mafia
PoP: The Sands of Time
Oblivion
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Mass Effect 2 (+1 because they're better together)
Assassin's Creed series (1 is pretty good, but I love the story and AC2 is brilliant)

Not in order - and I know I went over the limit, but I can't help it.

you do know resident evil:nemesis was in 1999 which is 2 decades ago right ?

As for my top 5 I'd have to go with

Tabula Rasa
Mirror's Edge
Portal
Lost Odyssey
Star Ocean:The Last Hope

Maybe not in that order but definitely those 5

I'd give honorable mention to The Path for being a game that's just strange yet fun.

Edit:What's with people posting games from the 90s ? I think that last decade thing is throwing people off.

5 is kind of the point. You have to be a bit firm with yourself otherwise it defeats the purpose...

In no particular order:

Jak 2

Okami

Shadow of the Colossus

God Hand

Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner (Anubis: Zone of the Enders in Japan)

I probably missed a lot because my PC can't handle most games, but those were the ones that entertained me the most. Honorable mentions to Henry Hatsworth, Eternal Darkness and Viewtiful Joe. Also Shadow Hearts and Skies of Arcadia.

These games all had a pretty big impact on me...

MGS 2, 3, 4
Perfect Dark (SO MANY sleepless teenage nights gathered round the TV with this one... I had to look it up to make sure it was released in 2000. The Arcade version makes me want a 360.. blarg)
Timesplitters 2, 3 (Similar... I miss system link. We go with MW2 for splitscreen now, but it just doesn't induce the same amount of yelling!)
Super Smash Bros Brawl (I'm lucky with this one because I have a particular friend who is a lot of fun to just play with while we hang out)
Mercenaries (Addicted me like crazy)

Perfect Dark and MGS 3 and 4 probably most deserve their place here. I had to delete Metroid Prime because I had 6, but I'm really not sure if I should have. I also still need to play Okami, Ico, and Shadow of the Colossus; I bet they'll pop up here a bit.

I wonder how many I forgot.

PAL release was February 2000.
Ah then nvm carry on. It really does feel like a lot more time has passed since that game was released. Makes me not feel so old.
