7. Battlefield 2
6. Starseige: Tribes
5. Halo 3
4. Half Life 2
3. Counter Strike
2. COD4
1. Goldeneye

So Escapist, what say you? DISCUSS!

1. Stalker.
2. Metro 2033.
3. Unreal Tournament.

I have no more. Not really a huge FPS player but like to throw in a Stalker here and Metro there.

Plus, UT was one of my favourite games in 99.

That list is terrible, Half-life two is mediocre in comparison to one and none of the games listed above Doom deserve to be higher than it, plus where's Quake, Serious Sam, Deus ex, Stalker and System Shock?

Edit-also my top ten:

1:Deus ex
2:Doom
3:Quake
4:Half life 1
5:Stalker
6:System shock 2
7:Call of duty 2
8:Serious Sam
9:Bioshock
10:Unreal Tornament

I'm ignoring the multiple entries stipulation, k? Kay.

1. Dishonored
2. Halo: Combat Evolved
3. Halo 3 ODST
4. Fallout: New Vegas
5. Deus Ex: Human Revolution
6. Goldeneye
7. Perfect Dark
8. Black
9. Call of Duty
10. Medal of Honor

I'm aware they aren't all true FPS by standard definition, but they're first person nonetheless which is good enough for me. I'm not a large fan of first person games as a whole, but there are some enjoyable ones.

The stipulations were no multiple entries of the same series?? Alright I'll try. That means I have to figure what Halo game is my favorite. I know I'll just put in Halo Series since they are all so similar.

My personal top FPS list.

1. Bioshock
2. Fallout 3 (If that counts)
3. Halo Series
4. Half-Life 2
5. Left 4 Dead
6. Fear
7. Killing Floor
8. Rainbow Six Vegas 2
9. Doom 3
10. Perfect Dark

I think you really need to differentiate between the single player experience in an FPS and the multiplayer as many amazing FPSs like Far Cry 3 have sub-par multiplayer. And really people, stop throwing in games just because they're in first person. First person views are used in a multitude of various genres such as FPSs, RPGs, Puzzle games, and straight up adventure games (ie Metroid Prime--which was a FPAdventure game not a shooter...it didn't even have aiming for god's sake).

That said....

Single Player

1. Half Life
2. Half Life 2
3. Bioshock
4. Counter Strike
5. Crysis
6. Goldeneye
7. Doom 3
8. Hard Reset Extended Edition
9. Metro 2033
10. Painkiller

Multiplayer

1. Counterstrike
2. Unreal Tournament 2004
3. Battlefield Bad Company 2
4. Battlefield 3
5. Goldeneye
6. Call of Duty MW
7. Natural Selection 2
8. Team Fortress 2
9. Tribes Ascend
10. Quake

Keep in mind, I did not include Deus ex (original or HR) as they are not FPSs. Had I included Deus ex, both games would have topped the single player list.

House of the Dead wasn't on any list so far, therefore you all are dead to me.

Dead to me.

Not the best, but worth mentioning and rarely is, No One Lives Forever (2).
Far Cry 1 deserves a nudge as well that hasn't been mentioned yet.

My actual list would be the standard Deus Ex, Quake, Enemy Territory etc.

1. Halo 2
2. CoD4
3. Goldeneye
4. Counterstrike
5. Doom

Halo 2 is probably the single most under-appreciated game of all time. That multiplayer was unbelievably good.

Half life series.
Bioshock
Wolfenstein 3D (as in 386 days)

Can't really add anymore as these are the only "traditional" FPS games that held my attention long enough to finish, solely because of story and i'm not into multiplayer FPS's.

I'd put the original Deus Ex in there except some people might say it's not a FPS even though it's in first person and you shoot shit. same as Fallout 3/New Vegas.

I guess i should put Goldeneye in as it's the only multiplayer fps i've had fun playing.

I can't really be bothered making a list but the one I enjoyed most was Halo 3. If you have some sort of problem with multiplayer however I will say Dungeon Defenders if it counts as a FPS.

Hmm, I'd say...

1. The Darkness Games
2. Metro 2033
3. Fallout 3/NV
4. STALKER Games

The other FPS' except maybe XIII, I haven't loved, and even then, I don't really consider the bottom 2 on my list FPS', but instead RPG's

I'm just gonna give ya a top 5

5. Call Of Duty 4 (Found it unique how they played out the fear of death, plus the levels were really fleshed out in this one)
4. Portal (Maybe short but the puzzles are amazingly clever with the stunts you have to pull and Glados is funny)
3. Perfect Dark 64 (Don't deny it, the graphics and controls our out of date but it's still great with such a large choice of options and weapons and challenges to test yourself)
2. Half-Life 2 (Many amazing unique challenges with the aid of the gravity gun)
1. Metroid Prime (Discovering is amazing in this, and the boss fights are great too. And I didn't expect scanning everything would enhance my experience instead of just the crappy old character story text)

It's either MP or HL2. They both have amazing design, atmosphere, game play and they both innovated in a good way.
