If they banned certain topics from The Escapist then it wouldn't be the same place we have come to love.

Free speech means people should be allowed to start topics on whatever they like - the Mods will decide if it's inappropriate or not and surely it's those who flame someone for their opinion/topic choice that should be punished rather than just preventing the person starting in the first place.

Also, I'd like to point out there is no such thing as original thought, so technically every thread has already been done in some form or another anyway.

I'm quickly getting tired of religion threads that degenerate into simply "Christians are stupid." We're not all like those random crazy churches, I promise!
Also, any threads like "There's been a lot of threads about X lately." Great, now there's another one.
And of course, the ones I hate the most are "Video games that you hate but everyone else loves" and the "Video games that you love but everyone else hates" that accompanies it. Seriously, there must be a new pair of these every damn week.

id rather see 1000 religion threads than a USE THE SEARCH BAR post.
This....

....And to clarify...I've also seen "This thread is OLD" posts...which seems to punish someone who actually used the search bar and resurrected a dying thread, no??? *ponder*

OT-No banning...just let the mods wield banhammer on those individuals who have a history of deliberately inciting flame-y-ness...
You say that, but I've had 7 bans (up to and including 14 day full suspension) for 7 different things. Hell, I've even got 2 moderator actions for the same "offence". The people who have a history of "inciting flame-y-ness" will get no more leniency than people who can sum up "what do you think of Sweden" in one picture, or people who told a Turbine fan to stop the victory dance, there was still 12 hours left to go.

This. The discussions about religion and communism are what make this community awesome. That a bunch of people, on the internet, can get together and discuss these things is phenomenal, especially when the discussions don't erupt in violence, and most of the time they don't anyway.

Topics about how we like to pleasure our selves and others.... Sexually...

Everything else, religion, politics, and sometimes even consoles, I'm OK with.

Advertising threads I'm a bit effiy on though.

Personally, I'd say religious threads: whatever message your trying to give, and however intelligent the topic may be, all its going to do is incite a flame war.
Sadly I have to agree. I've been here, what, six months now? I don't think I've seen a single religion thread that hasn't descended into a flame war.

I'd also get rid of the cheap insults about Miley Cyrus/Twilight/other teenage girl obsessions. Cos some of us actually like that stuff, and if I was to start being as insulting as some of those comments about popular games/films/music or kittens on here, I'd be banned in a heartbeat.
