I just want to keep the story separate. I'm a loner when I play mmos. But all the big moving events are stupid flashpoints, where everyone gets to talk. That means that there will always be some jackass there to choose the Cartoon Villain option from Bioware's hackneyed dialogue system just so he can grief light side players.
Nope, you heard wrong. I too am a loner when it comes to MMO's so I understand your concerns. I showed up at a friends house while he was playing on the beta, so I got to watch a little. All the story elements are individual. You can be in a party when you do them and I think your party can even watch, but rest assured that only you get to decide what happens in your character's story.

Flashpoints are like big intermissions between your story elements and they can be repeated. I guess certain dialogue options will actually change the way the flashpoint plays out, so if you don't like what your group did then you can go back and find out what happens if your group makes different decisions.

Lore is nice in a large world, but I like the idea of my character having some personal reason to hop from planet to plant (or area to area). I want an overarching goal besides "all my quests are now in the Murkwood, so I guess it's time for me to go there."

Does anyone actually take reviewers seriously? I tend to find they talk alot of crap most of the time. Particularly with movies and games. I think i'll wait until actually players are allowed talk about it and let us know how they feel about the game.

I'm going to be honest, my opinion of you dropped like a balloon suddenly filled with rocks here. I have seen Guild Wars 2, and anyone who says it's anything but a generic MMO with some distracting shiny paint is living in denial. And the story and interaction within it is an absolute joke.
Honestly. I see it the exact same way. I've seen plenty from GW2. It looks good, it really does. But different from any other generic MMO? Nope, not at all. For all the knee-jerk reactions I hear against TOR, most of them immediately compare it to GW2. It's fine that people are excited over GW2, looks like it will be fun. But I do not see how it's significantly different from any other generic MMO.
Because instead of static animations in combat, stand around combat, boring text for quests, you have a combat system where you are constantly moving, actively dodging, when you run away someone's attack doesn't automatically hit you, and quests are replaced by events that just happen. You don't ever need to go up to someone with a quest marker, you just walk into a village and its under attack. And you save it. If someone else walks into that village a week later, it is still saved. If you fail to save it, then it is still destroyed a week later, and probably infested with bandits that other people have to drive out.
Everyone gets all the exp and loot from any monster they help kill.... I could go on, just check out "Ambassador's Mission GW2" on youtube.

I've played GW2, it is awesome. Trying to play another MMO, like Rift, is super boring in comparison.

Not entirely serious, maybe.

I know all that. I've spent quite a long time looking into GW2, reading it up, watching videos. I've seen pretty much everything you've described.
It looks good. And I really can see myself playing it.
But a laundry list of why you feel GW2 is an excitingly different game in the MMO industry isn't going to make me think the same.

I see it as solid, and entertaining. Nothing wildly different from anything I've seen before in the MMO industry, or even significantly different. Then again, I don't understand why people think it needs to be.

Everything you brought up doesn't make me think it's any less standard.
When you talk about GW2 being an MMO that doesn't have static stand around combat, where you actually move and have to dodge attacks yourself and things like that. And use that as a basis for me to develop interest in it. I immediately think of another MMO that has all that already, and with faster paced better looking combat. Vindictus.

Not saying Vindictus is a better game. Just saying Vindictus does a better job at standing apart.

I understand you're excited about it. But I don't see it the same way you do.

That is my opinion.

This thread is a fucking joke.

Everything I've read about this game has been of the following:

1. It's the Star Wars MMO you've always wanted.
2. Voice Acting takes the experience above and beyond any MMO ever made.
3. The story is Bioware engaging, however the MMO aspects can hurt the experience.
4. Everyone who's played it is itching to get deeper into the experience.
5. It's basically as good as people were hoping.

The OP sounds to me like someone who made up their mind about TOR quite some time ago, and is now bending the facts to suit their outdated mindset.
I won't be buying TOR. Not because it sounds crap, but because I don't give a single fuck about yet ANOTHER MMO. It's just not what I'm after these days. However, from all accounts - ALL ACCOUNTS - it sounds like WoW's days are just about up.

Basically, I don't care if it's something new. WOW with lightsabers is perfect for me. I LOVED WOW, I spent a lot of time playing it, but I eventually got bored. Why? Azeroth. It bored the hell out of me. It was just the same old fantasy type setting, with the same old world history of any fantasy RPG.

I LOVE Star Wars, though, and if Bioware has shown me anything, it's that they love to flesh out the history and universe in the games they make.

As long as TOR can keep a moderate amount of people engaged in their game, I think I'm going to have a blast.

there was an embargo. shows how much i cared. i have always said that i will give TOR a shot, but that won't happen until two or three months post release. and if the reviews a mediocre, i might not play it at all.

I'm glad it's similar to WoW. I like WoW. However, with the announcement of the new expansion, which hasn't really doesn't do much for me, I'm looking forward to having this game to switch to. Besides, it's Star Wars and Bioware. That combination has been fantastic in the past, and I've yet to play any Bioware game I didn't like.

This comes as no surprise to me, ToR is going to be less than spectacular. All you really have to do is just read about the game and watch some of the videos, they pretty much give you all the info you need to see that this game is NOT cutting edge.

I will still be sticking with Guild Wars 2 when it comes out, that game is going to bring something new to the table!
