Torchlight was a relatively popular game in the Escapist community and it seems like a lot of people here are really excited for the sequel. My question is: assuming Torchlight 2 is everything you want it to be, is there even a point in getting Diablo III when it comes out?

Its been an extremely long wait and many Diablo fans (including myself) just don't really care anymore. Torchlight 2 is coming out sooner and promises to have some great dungeon crawling co-op fun at a cheaper price tag. What do you guys think?

Well, unless Blizzard f***s up, Diablo should be "bigger and better" then Torchlight 2.

I'm not even that excited for Torchlight 2, as I found Torchlight 1 to be quite a bore and found myself going back to Diablo 2 most of the time.

So.. yeah.. I'm suspicious about Torchlight 2 and excited for Diablo 3.

I'm more looking forward to the Torchlight MMO.

But I think there is room for both Diablo and Torchlight, and competition is always good. Might come down to mods for me, but I'll likely pick up Torchlight 2 quickly anyway.

Well, Torchlight was great...for $5.

Fun game(don't get me wrong), but the actual meat of the game in Torchlight ended fairly quickly and the rest was just 99 randomly generated floors.

Nobody has managed to do Diablo type gameplay quite like...well...Diablo.

It's like Pepsi(Torchlight) and ice cream(Diablo). Pepsi(or whatever preferred drink) is great, but if you've eaten ice cream recently, it just tastes like bitter water.

Sadly I've never played Torchlight because Steam and my computer get along about as well as Jack Thompson and Take-Two, but for some reason I actually do want to play Torchlight 2.

Also, does Diablo 3 have a release yet? Last time I checked it didn't.

If your a fan of the diablo style RPG, there's no harm in having as many as you can get your hands on, I for one played torchlight 1 on the PC< then bought the xbox port, and plan to play torchlight 2, diablo 3, and the torchlight MMO, and will buy the ports of any of those later three if they decide to make them cus Im more comfortable playing my xbox than computer.

Honestly I didn't like Torchlight that much, it felt like after a few levels you'd seen all the game had to offer.

I have high hopes for Diablo 3 though.

A GameStop employee told me that they announced November but it wouldn't be surprising if it was delayed.

Alright first off you dont seem like a fan if your giving up that fast. Like honestly, i hate when people spout there true fans then say there giving up and this new game thats a gaint ri off is better. Lol and dont speak for Diabl fans with that "we" The real daiblo fans are still having so much fun playing Diablo 2 to this day! are you even on the ladder? when was the last time you even played. So your not a real fan.

Blizzard always makes games that last forever, i played Starcraft since 98 until release of SC2 consistenly and i am not lying. Daiblo 3 wll blow torchlights puny ass out of the water when its released but until then like a real fa ima go play Diablo 2. Lol a fan, Did you even have a hardcore account beet hell mode?

Stop hating.

Fans of Diablo should be excited for Torchlight 2 because it's made by the same guys who made Diablo.

What? People only care about the company making the game, and not the actual people involved? I guess that's why Blizzard is still so popular despite all the major talent leaving years ago.

Please edit your posts before submitting them. I got a headache trying to read it.

Anyway I am not hating on Blizzard at all. I was just simply expressing how, due to its incredibly long development cycle, I have simply lost interest in the game and believe Torchlight 2 to be a more readily accessible experience.

Last I heard Blizzard "wants to release it this year" but can't commit to it.

Not to mention they at least develop the game fast and let the gamers have it...
How long have you guys been waiting for diablo now? how incredibly fast did torchlight 2 get developed?

I get it that greater experiences need more time... but with their sheer ammount of employees and cash, Blizzard should always be able to deliver their games faster.

I'm a big fan of the diablo franchise, but the wait has been eternal since D3 was announced... each year a huge wait for the classes that aren't even as original as you would have expected from seeing the witch doctor first.

Dunno, I'll probably end up buying it anyways.

EDIT: not to mention that the story as amazing as it can get to be in Diablo isn't actually what you're gonna be buying the game for. It's all about the loot. And the story is not even that huge, couple of cinematics, couple of random missions leading up to the huge one, beat boss next chapter, if torchlight had more sidemissions it'd end up being practically the same.

I'm really looking forward to Torchlight 2... mostly because so far it looks like it could run on my computer.

I was looking forward to Diablo III, really really looking forward to. But when I discovered I couldn't run Starcraft II (well sure it ran, 8 frames per second still counts as running, or limping, movement definitely took place though), I pretty much gave up hope.

But considering Torchlight 1 even supported "netbook mode" I'm hoping it'll run(and not limp, or walk, joggings fine though, I guess).

Things tend to taste better for me after ice cream.

Saying, "Why play Diablo when there's Torchlight?" is like saying "Why play Starcraft when there's Halo Wars?" or "Why play WoW when there's Age of Conan?". Blizzard is just vastly superior.

I'll buy both, but obviously I'm more interested in Diablo 3. TL2 should be a great game to hold me over until Diablo 3, and get me back into the dungeon-crawling loot-hunt style games.

I never played Diablo 2 and while I found torchlight fun for a n hour or two, without multiplayer there just didn't seem to be a point.

TL2 and D3 both have multiplayer I think, so that should be cool. Co-op is needed.

I'm going to get both, Torchlight 2 should hold me until diablo 3, even if I have to mod the hell out of it like what I did with Torchlight 1. Once I get Diablo 3 I'm probably never looking back though.
