An update:
The storm WAS supposed to last until midnight, it stopped about 1/2 an hour ago. TONS of rain, super high winds, and the funnel clouds were rotating and DANGEROUSLY close to the ground. The main force went south (guessing) and tornadoes were reported for a while. VERY SCARY at the time, now it's just a mist. We are starting dinner at 10:00.

Thanks or all of the support/replies. For a while there I was concerned that we would have no house...
by any chance do you live in wisconsin???

A tornado ripped through the High School of the town I used to live in, killing nine of its students. Five of which I knew.

A squirrel bridged the connection on the high-voltage transformer attached to the power pole behind my house.

There is no squirrel.

Was without power for a few hours.

Go inner-city living!

(That's the closest I've come to any kind of disaster.)

For the guy who asked, north suburbs of Chicago.

Also, a microburst (tornado, but not really) hit my house 4 years ago, tore down tons of trees nearby blocking the roads both ways. The news crew was on the next street across from mine on the damage. The best/worst part was the fact that my neighbor went inside her house, only to have the tree in her backyard hit by lightning and split in half down the middle. It hit the seat she was sitting in square on; only a 10 second difference. A simply beautiful thing happened afterwards (not good btw) when 3 transformers blew up in unison lighting up the entire green/yellow/grey almost nighttime sky. It was like watching a lights show or the aurora (bad part=no power for 10 hours). :)

I have more stories if you guys/gals are interested, just ask (I don't want to waste time writing something no one will read, I got that enough here on other threads...)

Watched a tree fall on house on a Tuesday morning in 2003. Wasn't a tornado, though, it was straight-line winds. That was not a pleasant start to the day.

I've only ever experienced a tropical storm, which isn't much compared to a tornado.

They're not too common in Oregon.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but there is grape sized hail hitting our windows (we are under a 2 ft awning, and the wind is super fast), acidic (but not acid) rain, and in 30 mins, a torando is supposed to hit by soon. I will post pics if I can!

Hmm here in Dutchland we don't have tornado's.
I would say you're very lucky. I've never had to suffer through one either, and I never want to.
I've had people from the U.S. Midwest express to me how much they'd hate being in a California earthquake. My instant response is always a disbelieving stare.
Well thats because you can dodge a tornado, and get a little bit of warning before it arrives, them earthquakes just pop out of nowhere...sneaky little bastards

Screw all you people in Austarlia and Europe, I live in tornado alley ( tecnically) so summers and springs are times of F.E.A.R. and worry. But Alma O.k. at this point. Did you catch that Shakespeare worthy word play? Ha ha ha ha!
