I am curious, how old are you?

I'm 28, grew up during the massive csi craze and it just got worse as time went on. I guess I'm desensitized to it, at least to a point. You still don't see many scenes of eye gouging. That gets to me, but not much else.

I walked out of "Inglorious Basterds." It was the only option for me. I went with some friends to see it in the theater knowing nothing about it. Walked out. The glorification of violence exceeded my capacity to play accomplice.

And I'm not squeamish. I handle corpses and organs on a regular basis.

So I don't think it necessarily means you are a soft person. Perhaps just a more empathetic.

I also dislike torture scenes. It's mainly when it's the sadistic torture of an innocent or character I like, I acknowledge that this is sexist but I always find it much worse when it's done to a female character as well.

I don't find it as bad when it's being done to someone who "deserves it". If a rapist gets horribly tortured then it doesn't bother me as much. It's not the physical or graphical part of it that bothers me, it's just the actual act of torture.

I'd say it's normal. It never bothered me as much when I was younger so I think it just happens as you get older, you see all these news stories about horrible stuff like that happening in real life so that seeing it in fiction and being reminded of it just leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Not at all.

Honestly if a book/movie/show needs to resort to unpleasant imagery to try and keep my attention, gratuitous shots of gore or violence or other unpleasantness, then I'm almost certainly going to start losing interest. Not only is it disturbing but frankly it's a bit tacky. Corny. Trying too hard. There are exceptions of course, but I'm speaking generally here.

Can't stand the torture porn genre myself, it's just such a wretched thing. I remember when being disgusting used to mean something damn it, like The Thing or The Shinning, now every other scene in your typical horror movie is just trying to piss me off with one piece of gross imagery after another. It's nonsense like Saw and Hostel that are ruining the entire horror genre for me!

Bah Humbug!
