Hey palberts, looking for a little advice on the campaigns in Total War: Warhammer.

I've run into a...glitch? Problem? Not sure how to qualify it. Okay so I've tried the campaign 4 different times now. Twice with Orks, once as each of the Bosses. Once as Empire and once as Vampires. And every single time, the exact same thing happens. And I mean exact.

Turn 13, exactly, no matter what, a Dwarf named Thorgim GrudgeBearer shows up in my lands, regardless if I've attacked him or not or even if Dwarves are anywhere near me.

And he's army is...absurd. Like...38 units absurd, when I'm capped at 20. And I can out-run him, hold down my forts, set ambushes, anything but he always gets me. Always.
And the outcome is always the same. He slaughters me, then runs me down, slaughters me again, and the campaign is over. He's able to conquer any settlements I have with almost no casualties because he outnumbers my armies easily 2-1.

Also he seems to have the huge units, like steam tanks and copters and flamethrower mans. When my army equivalents are 3 tiers away.

Anyone else having this small(teehee) problem? Or something similar? Or any general advice on how to start campaigns? 'cause I've yet to survive until turn 20 on easy, and I'm a bit of an old hat on RTS games...

This is not normal... at all. First, armies are capped at twenty like you said. That is built into the game and the AI cannot overrule that just because it feels like it. Second, it would take him way longer than 13 turns to go from his starting position and recruit so many units to reach the Empire. Third, the Steam Tank is not a Dwarf unit, it is an Empire unit.

Everything you just stated is not normal, even on legendary. I don't know if you have any mods running, but I'd suggest giving a go with them turned off if you do. Other than that, try the Total War subreddit or the actual forums on Total War's website[footnote]The developer does answer questions in the support section for all to see.[/footnote] This most certainly is not an issue with your skills, this is one of the weirdest glitches I've seen in my time.

Since both of my solutions may take time, take this link [http://mrantifun.net/index.php?threads/total-war-warhammer-trainer.8123/] to a trainer download. Effectively allows you to break the game with turn one everything, infinite money, and even god mode so you can counter them by the time they show up and hopefully continue on with the game freely afterwords.

This doesn't help in any way, but I am beginning to suspect that you really have managed to offend all the powers of warp and realspace and are now cursed to be stomped on in all Warhammer games from now until the end of time.

Its funny, I actually won the Warhammer match I played at the GW yesterday.
So maybe only the Computer Gods are upset at me.

Did you praise Nuffle for winning? If you didn't, then there's your problem.

That sounds like either some kind of anti-piracy measure, or you've downloaded a mod thats trolling you. Like Elfgore said, you should not be encountering an army stack that big without mods, and dwarves should not be deploying steam tanks. As someone that's well past turn 20, and not exactly a Total War expert as I tend to just play on normal, what you are running into shouldn't be happening at all.

So yeah, if you pirated the game, that might be what's causing it, otherwise I would say check any mods you have installed. I looked around a little to see if anyone else was reporting the same problem but couldn't find anyone, so it's either an extraordinarily rare bug or one of the two issues above.

It's worth pointing out that the AI does field 40 strong armies early in the game even if it's a legit untweaked version of the game, but you are given ample chances to prevent being wrecked by it via diplomacy. You can also field 40 strong armies yourself by having two lords and moving the stacks very close to each other (there's a small red ring demonstrating whether the two armies can join eachother on the field).

for it to happen at turn 13 exactly with high tier units along with steam tanks? then yeah its either a mod or an antipiracy measure.. dwarfs dont get steam tanks for starters

For the sake of the thread, I'll point out I have a legit purchased copy off of Steam. Even shilled out the bones for the Chaos mans.

Orks and Dwarves have terrible diplomacy modifiers. And it seems the AI is smart enough to realize there's no reason to bargain with Orks when you can curb stomp them at minimal loss.

I've had Thorgrim show up on my doorstep too, now, but I actually managed to beat him. I just needed to get a Waaagh!!! going before he showed up, so I got a second army for free to face him with.

So, get into as many fights as possible with the Red Fang orcs, pump up your army size to 17 Units, and once your Fightiness-level hits 80:

The chaos warriors are free for a week or two after launch. If you bought the game, then there's no reason to shell out any aditional bones for them.
Oh, I thought the price was bundled into the $60 price tag?

Shit, you're right. I totally forgot about that.

If at all? Denuvo has yet to be cracked, right?
Its been cracked plenty of times. Its just takes painfully long and for smaller releases its not worth the effort.
Last I heard they'd managed to break the first layer of encryption and boot the game. Main menu might not seem like much, but it's a massively important step and foothold to crack the rest.
