...Huh...Who saw this coming?

Just to be clear, he seems to be in a good spot right, it was caught early and it's likely it'll be able to be removed before it starts to spread and become a serious threat to his life, he'll most likely be out of action for a few weeks though.
The first 6 minutes or so go into detail of what was going on with TB and the rest is more or less a PSA on Bowel Cancer.

Still, I figure it'd be rather newsworthy to hear of one of the more famous YouTube Critics battling with Cancer and seeing how he made the vid to spread awareness, I figured I might as well spread the word.

Discussion Value: Did you ever know of any cases where friends or family hid illness from public knowledge?

I'm not sure it's a 100% diagnosis of bowel cancer or not. Was unclear from video. I got no indication he was looking at chemo or anything.

For your discussion value addendum...far more important thing to take away from this than hiding illness from public knowledge is hiding illness from yourself. That might sound pretty stupid, but we're the first gate keeper that must be cleared on the path to diagnosis, and most people...especially young people...are reluctant to even believe that there COULD be something wrong, let alone that there is. For every hypochondriac there's a dozen Peter Pans who believe they're functionally immortal right up to the moment where the bottom falls out of their fantasy of eternal life. How many people on this site alone do you think have weight or dietary issues? How many people do you think are little time bombs of complex health issues waiting to explode in their 30's or 40's? My guess is "a lot".

He said there was no metastasis, and they were looking at surgery to remove it. So very early stages of bowel cancer. He's lucky.

Hopefully he keeps up with the annual checkups. People who get bowel cancer are very susceptible to getting it several more times. My mom had a boss who got it three times, and the third time was the one he didn't come back from.

Holy shit, would you mind changing the thread title? It really makes it sound like he's gonna die soon- which he isn't. After the operation he should be fine he says.

As for your question, I think yes. My grandma is in hospital right now, actually.

I can't speak for others, but i'm 25 and never see doctors , even though i live in canada and healthcare is free. I don't really expect to live past 40, but it doesn't really bother me. The only thing worst than dying, is knowing you are going to die.

I used to think that way too when I was 25. Now that I'm almost 39, I want to go back in time and beat the crap out of my 25 year old self.

Generally speaking you're likely setting yourself up for perennial discomfort, pain and anxiety rather than 'doin' fine and then suddenly gone'. If you think there might be something to work on health wise, might as well work on it now.

Also huzzah, fellow Canadian!

I was thinking that, but technically it's more accurate this way seeing how he hasn't gotten it removed from his body yet.
Besides, I make it clear in the OP that wasn't the case.

I can't speak for wherever you live (I assume it's somewhere in great britan) but over here in the U.S. it's a systemic problem. In my family alone, my grandmother battled breast cancer for YEARS and absolutely no one knew about it. Our grandfather thought she was cheating on him. It's treated and everything now, so there's no worry, but it was a shock to find out.

It's possible I'm being too literal here, but I feel like by the age of twenty-five, you should probably already know you're going to die, and that going to a doctor oughtn't to change that awareness of yourself as a finite being.

Im in america, 26, male. And I never go to the DR. Especially since now they are making us buy healthcare. Nobody tells me what to do with my money. I maymneed food, house etc. But imstill determine, where when how much. To issue a blanket healthcare tax on top of taxes, and take away competion is absurd.

Tip-illegals can sign up for obamacare. Remember that next time you hear "such and such number/age group signed up." Listen for if they tell you what race (they wont)
Fair enough, just if you want to bash Obamacare, please leave it to the Religion Board.
I posted this in gaming because TotalBiscuit is kinda a big deal and I rather like his videos and figured a lot of people would want to see this.

Not to hear the same nonsense I normally hear about the evils of the ACA.

Looks like his you tube needs chemo message being missing makes sense now. I'd have thought he would have turned it on it's head somehow though.

Yes, i know i will die. However, i don't think about it , and when i do i think " i will die eventually, but not now". However, if i went to the doctor and he told me i had cancer, and i have between 6 month - 1 year to live for example, it becomes a lot more real, and more frightning.

I could die unexpectedly tonight, and it would be okay because it's unexpected. Tell me i'm going to surely die tomorrow and i will be scared.

Maybe i explained that wrong, i'm bad at explaining.

It's not that, it's the basic tone the title gives. Whenever I hear someone has cancer isn't it okay to assume that person will die from it? I'd prefer it if the title was "TotalBiscuit has Bowel Cancer but should be fine".

It definitely sounded like a precancerous growth. If it hasn't metastasized at all, you're looking at a 90%+ survival rate if the polyp is simply removed surgically, maybe supplemented with some adjuvant chemo "just to be sure". Either way, it sounds like a really good prognosis.

Which just makes the message of the video even more important. A huge amount of cancers are pretty easy to treat if caught early enough, and a lot of them can be detected early(breast, bowel, testicular, prostate, skin, etc), but people don't want to see the doctor because they think it's embarrassing. And that embarrassment can literally kill you, because you're putting it off until it's too late.

Fuck that shit.

Making a video like this takes courage. And I'm really glad he did it.

Wonder if you'll feel the same way when you're 39.
