For a fighting game I?d try MKXL on Very Hard for a solid challenge. The AI forces you to know your character?s frame count and rarely makes a mistake to exploit. I?m sure some people have found other ways to exploit certain AI tactics, but from what I remember playing on even Hard it was exhilarating. Every victory was hard-earned, and in some cases it looked similar to high level pvp matches.
Already got it but the lack of a challenge tower, like the previous one had, has really halted my desire to carry on perfecting the characters and timings. Also, give me back Smoke!

Obligatory Bloodborne, Dark Souls 2 and 3 recommendation.
I've tried Bloodborne and Dark souls and i found them pretty boring. Strangely, Nioh is really keeping my attention, which is basically Ninja Gaiden meets Dark souls, so i might be willing to retry them again at a later date. I'm guessing i'll need an rpg to recharge my batteries first though ^_^
OK. Other recommendation is Let It Die. It's F2P so trying it out costs nothing.

Well there's always the God of War III remaster. I tried that game on the PS3 on the hardest difficulty, and couldn't make it past the first "real" boss fight after the tutorial boss, Poseidon. So if banging your head against a brick wall is your forte, there's that.

With the Souls there's also the Dark Souls II remaster, Scholar of the First Sin. It's the same game, but you can join the Covenant of Champions immediately upon arriving in the hub town, which increases the aggression of enemies, makes you take double damage, and has them respawn infinitely. For even greater masochists you can take the Bonfire Ascetic as the starting gift and bump Heide's Tower of Flame into new game+ straight away, which makes it an absolute ***** of an area.

Divinity original sin.
Salt and sactuary.
Persona 5 ( hard mode).
Xcom 2
Nioh
Monster hunter world ( if you never played a mh game before).
Enter the Gungeon.
Dark souls 2,3.

That's my list and i'm sticking to it. Of course some people are going to say some of these games aren't hard. But, i just going to assume they are lying and played with a walkthrough/internet guidance.

There isn?t a traditional ?challenge tower? via MK9 but there are a slew of various towers, both fixed and live that rotate features and challenges depending on season or special conditions. There is also the new character Triborg which has Smoke as a fighting style.

Hades? His intro is amazing though. Really impressive if you have a good sound system (dat voice...).

Yeah, Heides ToF made me wonder if I was ready for that game. It was probably the biggest initial hurdle overall and I took advantage of the limited respawning there, which I only did for two other late game areas (the gauntlets to Blue Smelter and Sir Alonne).

Honestly I still haven't made it past the first boss since I keep dying. I kinda suck at it lol

I'd say any game that has a Very Hard mode.

Horizon: Zero Dawn and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy are pretty grueling on their highest difficulty.
I've played all the uncharted games through on the hardest setting and once you know where the enemies are going to be the difficulty doesn't really make any difference...it's the main reason i play games through on hardest first. It only adds a day onto my finish time which is important when i generally finish games within 2 days.
Well, I primarily mentioned Uncharted: The Lost Legacy since it has a lot more open areas, and as such the combat feels a lot less like banging your head against a brick wall(as it did with the previous games). It forces you to stealth, and this made the game fall into a kind of Last of Us guerilla action, which I was A-okay with. Also, the hardest difficulty increases the number of enemies. I couldn't even finish it due to that final armored humvee section.
I'd go so far as to say that gameplay-wise LL was the best UC of all. I'm still fond of the first two for nostalgia and overall experience respectively, but the last piece of DLC fine tuned the best parts of UC4 and ran with them. It also had one of the best set pieces in the series for the finale. I like UC4 don't get me wrong, but aside from the story LL did everything better imo.

It's pretty no-nonsnse, and that's a very good fit for this franchise. Even the end cutscene is little more than 'Woo, we beat the bad guy *the end*'
