Not just me - wasn't The Voyage Home the one that established the whole 'even numbers good, odd numbers bad' rule for Star Trek movies?BigTuk said:Srsly.. you thought STar Trek 4 was good.. a trip through time to save whales... with the most Hamfisted environmental message this side of free willy?... No accounting for taste.
For what it's worth, I think it's an incredibly cheesy movie and, yes, hamfisted as hell, but it was fun and well-paced and had its heart in the right place. It's easy to forget how the original Star Trek always had a balance of serious SF and light humour. I've been re-watching it recently and it was much, much better than I expected, Tribbles and all.
It most certainly is not, it's a prequel, which was explicitly tied in with the other movies.BigTuk said:As for X-Men first Class that is technically a reboot.
Of course, I'm not denying that. But you can't throw out a statement like "Name one film franchise that was actually good after the 3rd installment" and expect to get away with itThe point is , the 4th installment of any franchise is more likely to be bad than good. and yes the trend with sequels worsens when children's movies are involved hell Toy Story was the franchise that proved to be the exception.
