Ok. Very simple thread. There are tons of trading card games floating around. Duel Monsters, Magic the Gathering, Pokemon, etc. My question is, which trading card game did you find yourself succumbing to (if you ever did) and why did you choose this particular game over the other ones? If it's got a specific class or alignment of cards, which one was your favorite? Be as specific as you feel comfortable.

Personally, I loved Magic the Gathering, Black Creature and Spell cards were my favorite. I kind of dig that macabre horror art.

God, I remember back in grade school pokemon was sooo popular, we never actually played, we just collected. But a card game I actually played was yu-gi-oh, never won but it was fun.

I got caught up in the whole pokemon thing...on reflection my money would have been better spent on Magic...or anything really!

I played magic the gathering for a while, I had a green and black deck (wish I could've got that sliver one because they're awesome). I gave it up when 8th edition started coming out because I lost interest.

I have at one time or another gotten into all the popular ones. I played pokemon, but dropped it because of lack of players, played Yu-Gi-Oh for a while but dropped it because the strategy in that game is spending the most money. I almost picked up Duel Masters until I realized the game was going out of print and never picked it up when it came back into print. I eventually picked up Magic (or rather went back to since I had a brief encounter with it between pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh but dropped it because the initial idea of having been around for over ten years overwhelmed me for a while). I found a game I could love in Magic and played it seriously for something like 5 years and only dropped it because money was becoming scarce while they were raising prices. Seriously, I still play every once in a while, even if I can't devote the money to it that I used to be able to. But the thing that attracted then as it does now is that it is not a money competition. Sure, money gets you a bigger card pool to build decks from, but commons can be just as important as a rare card. My favorite example is that I have a deck currently built entirely of rares and uncommons that has gone undefeated against decks that had a lot more time and money sunk into them. Its uncanny that it is able to do that, but it makes me happy because it means that even without as big of an investment I can still have fun instead of sit around and get my ass stomped.

Sad to say that I had (approx) 500 pokemon cards, 100 digimon cards and 100 yugioh cards. Soooo much wasted money, i think card games should be banned just thinking about all the money i spent on them. I kinda hate myself for ever getting into card games. Thank god I realized how stupid they were before I heard of Magic the Gathering!

I think I liked yugioh cards the most just because the game was legitimately fun and there was actually strategy involved(although just having strong monsters and kick ass magic cards usually made you win). The only reason I had so many more Pokemon cards was that for three Christmas' in a row my parents/relatives decided all i was getting were Pokemon cards.

Never liked the show, but I loved playing Yu-Gi-Oh, I always wanted a zombie deck but I never got any good zombie cards besides Pumpkin King.

I used to play Yugioh alot, the card game is really fun but the show is horrible in english. Luckily we have Yugioh The Abridged Series on Youtube to spare us.

I played Yu-gi-oh for awhile, mainly because so many other people had cards too. It was fun to go into some random public place (like the soccer field when my siblings had soccer practice) pull out your deck and wait for someone else to play with. I usually met someone.

I was introduced to Decipher at a young age: Star Trek CCG, Star Wars CCG, Lord of the Rings CCG. Why? They're cheap, they have great franchises, and Lord of the Rings is actually very well-designed. (It does suffer from the inevitable Decipher power creep, and an awful lot of tedious combat math, though.) Now that I have more disposable income, I'm getting into Magic - by which I mean casual Magic, picking up old decks off Ebay.

For a while, my parents (strict fundamentalists) thought card games were evil, so I had some Redemption cards. Man, those were bad. Imagine Yugioh without field limits, and instead of life you can take 7 hits from any monster no matter how large. And yes, Moses can beat up Pharaoh; he's an 8/8 with a sweet ability.

I got into the Pokemon card collecting (I didn't play them). I had quite a lot, too many for me to bother counting.

Looking back, it was an excercise in money wasting. So much money spent...

Yugioh was my main one (over 1000 cards, tourney player)
I also played MTG for quite some time (tourney player)
