Name me one Japanse CGI movie that has ever worked.

They should've just kept it hand drawn, because Japanese CGI tends to be extremely wooden.

Then again, this was probably going to be a simple cash-in from the get-go.
Well technically all the studio ghibli films for the last 20 years havn't been hand drawn but drawn using computers.

So they would be computer generated imagery, and films like ponyo and arrietty have quite recently (ponyo a few years ago, arrietty this year) had cinema releases world wide. So must of worked :p.
Hol' on there cowboy, where are you pulling that information from? As I recall, it's only the colouring that's done in computers. Hayao Miazaki is not a friend with them computers.

As someone who doesn't really watch a lot of anime, I actually prefer the more traditional style to this. As I see it, the world allows for a lot of interesting stories. I'd actually prefer if it took place somewhere that was visually impressive, which Ferelden isn't. I'd prefer Orlais, Antiva, or the Imperium(which may not be particularly bright, but architecturally impressive).

Not saying it doesn't take place in these places, just a suggestion.

Based on that trailer? Neither. I'll postpone actual judgement until they release something more substantial that gives me an idea of the characters, plot and/or general animation quality. The trailer as it stands though, does not leave me hopeful.

Is that really an anime? Or is it just scenes from the game... cause that shit looks CGI to me.

Edit:

I'm conflicted... I've always hated the CGI Appleseed, but I liked Halo: Legends...

Then again... Appleseed WAS pretty terrible compared to the original...
I completely agree i only liked the original and own the old 80's Appleseed film which i still consider the true version and apart from that i usually hate most CGI type anime unless it has to be a gundam.

And so, we come back to the age-old question: Subs, or dubs? What will you be watching?!
I would have to go with dubbed. The reason I can't really get into anime is because anime subs go by faster than normal reading speed. I just can't be bothered with the time it takes pausing the video every time a 20 or so word sentence pops up for all of two seconds.

Besides there are some cases where a dub is much better suited then the original Japanese dialog. Considering the type of medieval style game Dragon Age is, Japanese would be out of place.

Just like in Baccano!, the dubs were better suited because of the American 1920's setting. The added bonus was that the dubbing was perfectly done, with voice styles actually fitting the face of each character.

Well, that "trailer" was disappointing to say the least. Showed me nothing, told me nothing...bleh.
Absolutely this. I mean I wasn't super-psyched about it before, but now... meh. Meh abounds!

I tend to watch subs. Too impatient to wait for dubbing to be done, also fast reader! Y'all must envy me.

I prefer dubs for the most part. It's more likely my brother will watch it with me and I can pay better attention to animation details. It helps when the show is something like Baccano! or Fullmetal Alchemist where English feels more appropriate as well...

Visually impressive?

Not only do you only see fuck all of Fereldan in Dragon Age Origins, you see the Fereldan Map and only small parts of the locations you do visit. You don't see anyhting of Orlais, Antiva or the Imperium.
It's pretty much universally recognized that Ferelden is a backwater compared to the rest of the world.

Val Royeaux is, according to Leliana, gorgeous. The grand cathedral could make for an awesome setting.

Antiva city seems much more sprawling but the people probably add a bit of flavor.

The Imperium is basically the eastern Roman empire/Byzantines. They are declining but their cities would still be imposing and impressive.

That trailer is dreadful.
Agreed. That narrator was just... Unbearable. And if the movie is an origin story for Cassandra, shouldn't it have, I don't know, shown HER FACE. I mean I'm assuming that brief ass-kicking knight (for lack of a better term) was her, but still. At least we got *something though, more than just "yeah we're making a Dragon Age anime it will be out next year."

Not a huge fan of anime, but I liked Halo: Legends, and it already looks more promising than the Mass Effect movie........

For those of you who haven't heard about it yet.

Indeed. In fact, I'm sure a bit of noise was made over the fact that Ponyo, his most recent film, was made entirely with hand-drawn animation. I'm pretty sure computers were barely involved with that film. Studio Ghibli has always used CG elements with more restraint than we're used to here in the West.
Yeah, Ponyo was, if I remember correctly, also hand coloured (God bless those poor animators hands after the production of that film).

The only CG I know of that they've used are the snakes in Princess Mononoke.

Well, there's dragons.

That's a plus.

There are dragons in dragon age right?

They wouldn't call it dragon age if there weren't any dragons.

Final Fantasy: Advent Children was a great CGI movie.

As for this trailer, it looks unappealing and the CGI looks bad. Granted, I've never been a fan of Dragon Age to begin with, but I mean, I've seen just as good if not better CGI in the Warcraft 3 cutscenes.
