And honestly, I feel like "In Name Only" should be applied here.

So to sum up: While the original involved a bunch of kids playing a board game where what happened in the game spilled out into reality, causing mass chaos amongst the local town, madness, mayhem, and them desperately trying to survive...
...this one is about four kids sucked into a video game.

Also two of them are The Rock and Jack Black. The latter being a "hot woman in a fat guy's body" kinda thing.

So yeah.

I was disgusted when I first heard about a Jumanji reboot, but that trailer has actually changed my mind. Looks pretty decent as long as the trailer didn't spoil all the jokes.

Also, any opportunity to see Miss Pond showing off those legs is worth the price of admission.

It's a computer game envisioned by Hollywood. May god have mercy on us all.

Well...that looked "ugh"-worthy.

It's not that it's a reboot/remake that bothers me. I mean, Jumanji the film was adapted from a novel, and diverged from said novel significantly. No, it just looks pandering and brain-dead more than anything else.

That...is a thing apparently.

Oh look, they'd pointed out how the woman has to wear a skimpy outfit. I bet there's no fanservice after that revelation, that would be rather hypocritical.

I'm...always going to look at Jumanji thinking of Robin Williams, I'm sorry.

Looks okay I guess. I like the cast, Karen Gillan looks really hot, but that doesn't make it good.

Also the director of the film is from the guy who directed Sex Tape. Yuck.

Oh! So that's how they justify for her to wear that outfit!

Either way, I not not exactly excited to watch it.

Yeah... that has Sony movie written ALL over it.

We've got the Rock invading another movie, Kevin Heart and Jack Black screaming for funny points, and a generic hot chick.

This looks about as apealing as as any comedy movie released in the last 6 years.

The original never caught my attention, I'm not a fan of the actors, I don't even know who the redhead is, but I quite like this trailer. The comedy isn't funny, but then again, most comedy movies aren't funny at all to me. But that chick kicking the guy on a bike was awesome. It's schlocky fun. People really need to lighten up and stop with the "this is cancer!!! fuck you sony!!1 bahh ruined childhood!!" shit. Grow up.

Anything the Rock is in is worth a watch ;D

I have no idea what to expect from this film. most likely will see it sometime, maybe not a cinema movie for me though.

So does this mean Alan turned into an Elephant when he was sucked into the jungle in the first?
Probably not, since he was released from the game in jungle clothes with a full beard to boot.

I'm not opposed to the modernized variant of a video game rather than a board game. We'll see how it goes.

...So wait. Jumanji (1995) was a story starring kids all struggling with some kind of depression (albeit as an adult in the case of Sarah) and disassociated from the world around them, who play "a game for those who seek to find a way to leave their world behind" that unleashes potentially lethal chaos on that world. They then feel obliged to finish the game both out of fear and a sense of responsibility for unleashing that chaos on the world they were previously angry at. They thus come to terms with their issues ranging from grief (Sarah, Peter, Judy) and antisocial behavior (Peter and Judy), to anger at and fear of a father (Alan), and ultimately realize that their actions have consequences on the people around them, as represented by the chaos on the town around them, Alan learning about what happened to his father after he disappeared, and the shoe on the conveyer belt ultimately cascading into a depression for the town (the now defunct shoe factory having been a cornerstone of the town's economy).

And in Jumanji (2017) we're starting off with an athlete, a nerd, a "princess", and an apparent social outcast in what seems to be detention, wherein the teacher insists that they learn what they want to be and leaves them alone. They find a video game "for those who seek to find a way to leave their life behind"...and get sucked into the world of the video game where they embody their antithesis and perform video game/action movie feats.

...It hasn't exactly endeared itself to me, and it feels less like Jumanji than it does a fantastical spin off of the Breakfast Club by way of Tron, wrapped up in the trappings of Tropic Thunder.
