That's what I was thinking. I cannot understand how a game can hinge entirely on its story / characters. The gameplay element needs to be the most substantial element to a game, IMO.

Of course, I don't understand this sort of an opinion, but good for the people who do enjoy these kind of games. (This was also why I traded in LA Noire).
Gameplay can tie directly into the storyline, which sometimes makes it more fun. However, LA Noire didn't have strong story or characters at all despite completely relying on them and integrating them into the questioning. Catherine looks like it doesn't tie the two together so much despite a few decision moments.

OOof. Ouch. Sorry Atlus. I've bought a lot of your weird games and yes, I have loved even ones that I didn't expect to, but this....nope. Maybe it's because it just seems so much like Steal Princess? Maybe because I don't want to learn what the Atlus opinon is about relationships? I don't honestly know exactly what but while I love your other stuff this just turns me off like a switch.
Did you even try the demo? and where to you get Steal Princess? i think your just wanting to avoid it to avoid it. Whatever floats your boat kiddo.

Man what is with people spouting off nonsense when they didn't even try the game. -_-

I remember the first time I saw the gameplay for this game. I really didn't understand the hype then. I noticed the symbolism but um. How does it make this game interesting? Because it's strange? Hmm. If you like the puzzle elements and your one of those people who got genuinely freaked out by story of the blanks then I guess this game is probably a cool buy.

Otherwise it's overhyped and oversexualized for whats going to actually take place in the bulk of the game.

If i'm going to play a game that involves climbing I'd rather play as an Eskimo then some idiot in his underwear.

Speaking of idiots in their underwear.... I did try the demo. That was what I got. Some idiot running around in his underwear and really bad anime clips. To the point, the gameplay was even more simplistic than Steal Princess which was also a puzzle platformer. Simply repeating the same solution again and again. *Yawn* As has been pointed out, I also spent a lot more time in cutscenes of that really bad anime I mentioned, than I did actually playing the game. I can take that in some games where I'm actually interested in the characters but no one from Catherine really impressed me. Sorry. I get that the only reason you're here is to promote the game, (18 posts and just joined? Gimmie a break, shill.) but for me as someone who is a member of the Atlus faithful and someone who has supported Atlus repeatedly through the years this game is a total fail. I think it was designed for those who have unhealthy obsessions about relationships by those with unhealthy obsessions about relationships. The irony with that is the characters are too shallow to make watching that psychological train wreck in progress interesting. Even watching someone really into it play it would lose it's interesting factor once you saw that their level of choice in the game was reduced to Choose A. or Choose B. I digress, but *Yawn*

I'll also say that Atlus is missing one more piece of weirdness for their collector set - a condom, because if you actually paid that much to play a flash game? Yeah, you got fucked.

To think that some will miss the beauty of playing Captain America Super Soldier (and it is a beautiful and fun game!) so that they can play this. Wow. I guess some people really do need a significant other....

"What I'd like to see is Yahtzee's review for this one."

^So much agree. Also, I don't really get the symbolism either, but I'm definitely going to have to play this, in the very least to be a faithful Atlus fan and say I did.

I sort of liked playing it, but I was much more interested in the story between these climby puzzler sections.

I'll pick it up when it goes on the cheap.

Mainly because my heart was broken when this didn't turn into Next Gen Persona with a twist and became a puzzle game.

The production value is all there, but its core feels indie, and daddy don't pay 70 bucks for indie gameplay.

Oh...
My thoughts exactly.

I do enjoy puzzle platformers and this looks like a lot of fun with a unique aesthetic, but at £30 I'm not interested.

This is probably a trailer I would have to watch a bunch of times to understand.
As well as read the wiki.

Women with giant forks, evil babies, sheep people....no idea how that goes together.

I did try it out. And yes, I still believe that the story / characters definitely take precedence over the gameplay. Why? This is why -

1. The only gameplay involved so far was the whole puzzle aspect of it, which I found really annoying thanks to insanely touchy controls.

2. I was spending more time watching cutscenes that actually doing something. So yes, the game was hoping I'd be more interested in the story and the characters.

Again, as I said in my earlier post, this isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's not for me. Plus, "spouting off nonsense" is actually our opinion, which can be different to yours. Get used to it.
I will say right now I don't care that your opinion is different than mine, thats fine, nothing wrong with that.. I was pointing to more of the bolded:

The gameplay element needs to be the most substantial element to a game
You didn't like the gameplay, but you felt it wasn't substantial because you couldn't get the hang of the controls apparently. I admit that it is touchy, but simple to master, you also list that the cutscenes now go on to long and you wanna be doing something. Considering his is a story based game, then there WILL but cutscenes to tell said story.

That said, I thought your comment as silly, that was all. Considering you don't like story based games from the look of it.

The moment you said captain America Super solider being a good game I kinda tuned you out. Cause...yeahhhhh..... you trolling me? No but seriously you know, if you like that game so be it. Not a fan.. but you know, your not a fan of Catherine, so.. i guess it works out for the best.

Also I'm sorry my post count is too low for you? Would you like the posts counts on the other sites on on to take me seriously or something?

Just played the demo, off PSN and it was...well...the worst demo I've ever played. off PSN..I'm not even exaggerating.

First off, the game lost a billion points off the bat for having vincent as the main protaganist and Catherine as a supporting character (Vincent's not interesting AT ALL, Catherine¯s the only reason anyone's interested in this game!) and that's not my only gripe...

The gameplay sucked, it was just a bland block climbing puzzle, and a really frustrating one at that. For one thing you can get stuck, which is just as fun as it sounds, and how are blocks able to stand on edges of other blocks? It's a pain in the ass when I need to move a block down, so I push away the block underneath it, and it floats in mid-air. Why can't I get a better explanation for this phenomenomnomnom than "dont worry about it!"? I WILL WORRY ABOUT IT. Also, what the hell do block climbing puzzles have to do with an erotic romance tale? WAY TO SEEMLESSLY MERGE STORY AND GAMEPLAY

Well who would have pegged it for a puzzle game?
Also... what the heck was that? there was absolutely no information given except some basic play concept.

If you think a crappy block puzzle game is a good metaphor for a relationship, you are doing it wrong.
Exactly, crappy block puzzles have solutions.

Also the controls were bad, REALLY bad. For one thing, there's no jump button, and with the amount of buttons you have which don't do squat, that's inexcusable in a puzzle PLATFORMER, especially with how touchy the controls are.causing me to CONSTANTLY climb onto a ledge when I just want to face it so I can move the damn block. Navigating while hanging from a ledge is terrible, whether you're facing forwards, backwards, or sideways, climbinging is always up, I found myself literally pressing right to go to the corner to my left, and you know how in every other platformer you press X/A to climb onto a ledge? In this one it makes you fall to your death, so...enjoy that. Also, our hero can't jump over one block gaps like in EVERY PUZZLE PLATFORMER EVER...but...no big deal.

(and to think I though this game might be good.)

Cause that is trailer...ten? I think (a lot of trailers) and I think Escapist hasn't shown many on the general site. Think of it as a puzzle platformer with sim elements. (to a certain extent) About a man whom is with his girlfriend of 5 years and she wants to get more serious about their relationship and he kinda cheats on her with another girl under the same name, if you want links I can provide if interested.

If your wanting to know how the tower and story connect it's more of less him climbing symbolically the hurtles in life he's come to face.

I loved the demo so much. Style and art are off the charts. The gameplay seemed out of place but the second time around it worked so well. The simple platforming actually made things feel dangerous. Finished the demo and wanted more. I'm surprised that the gameplay fit in so well but i think it's good that they went with something people didnt expect. When i played okami i felt it was held back by traditional gameplay. I'm glad we are at a point in the console cycle where games like this can be made and released globally for ps3 and 360. .

That looked immensely more awesome that all the pseudo-hentai-vibe covers I'v seen for the game so far. And the music for the trailer? Awesum!
But unless it will be ported to PC, I won't be allowed to play. Sigh.

Oh...
Nope! Played the demo, and the arcade part seems to just be a recurring dream sequence. It does have excessively long stretches where the player has no agency, and the characters are offensively japanese, but it does have some decent role-playing sections.

It seemed alright, for a japanese game.
