I feel rather unimpressed by those 'pillars'. Essentially the two examples there are 'use a gun' and 'move around behind cover'. That's hardly the revolutionary gameplay choice that the game has been boasting. The stealth was most similar to MGS, or perhaps Hitman, but again I feel like that was nothing special.

Actually feeling a little let down.
Every game can almost always be improved upon in some way. The fact that the game is marketed as revolutionary but never stands up to that claim, kind of remiinds me of every other product on any market as well as every politician and political party.
I don't much see "this sucks because everything sucks" as being a particuarly good defence for the game.
It has potential, but it needs a little more flexibility before that can actually become anything original. Perhaps the later features in the missions fix this, perhaps not.
Maybe if the "alternate routes" weren't so goddamn obvious...sems like a poor mans Hitman, at least that game you had to play through a few times to find all the ways to do it. Also, i'm not feeling the 1st person view...

Im not digging the switches to third person perspective for takedowns.

Another, more important thing, stealth seems to be the least efficient way to solve the level. In Batman Arkham Asylum for instance, stealth was the best option because otherwise Batman was vulnerable. Jensen doesn't seem to have this drawback as seen in the first playthrough, yet stealth takes more time and effort.
Maybe you didn't notice, but being shot once took the players health down to 50%. That seems like a pretty good inclination to be stealthy.

Oh my GOD is that lady boring. I didn't think anyone could suck the fun out of a new trailer for Deus Ex but square found a way. She pointed out the most blatantly obvious things about the gameplay that I'm a little worried that she is involved at all with the production. She doesn't seem like a gamer and that could translate to lack-luster parts of the game. I am REALLY hope I'm wrong :p

OT:
It's about what I expected from a first level. However, I do agree with a lot of the previous posters saying the graphics could be better, especially since square usually focuses too much on making their games look good. Hey maybe this means they're finally learning their lesson and will start giving us intuitive gameplay in their next-gen games.

... and maybe Yahtzee will magically appear in my apartment so I can engage him in an intellectual conversation on why he likes Branston Pickles so much.

Red barrels? Realy? I thought we stopped using those... Sigh. And all that bloom and glow. We'll see more examples of this but so far - meh.
What made you think red barrels had ceased to exist? Haven't you played an FPS recently?
They were all browned up to make them "realistic", and sadly Deus Ex designers were in the same coloring book class, even the bloody lights are brown.

Did you even watch the video? Yellow and grey are the main colors here.

You know I DID also think the first person view was kind of off... it doesn't feel like you've entered a first person view at all from what I can see- seems like the first person view of a car instead of a human being.
I know I'm picking at the trailer here, but I still like the idea of the game, I just feel that such problems should be mentioned.

Nice to see everyone judging the entire game based on what is essentially the tutorial.

Sure it doesn't look mindblowingly impressive, but seriously? You do realize this wasn't a full game Lets Play, right?

Well, my initial response to this trailer is.....

WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT *pause for breath* WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT.

Of course, this is assuming that the rest of the game holds up. No sign of conversations, limited inventory management...all we saw was a single ammo pickup. Hows the hacking? what are the mods? whats the story like? naturally, most of this I'd rather find out by playing.

The whole yellow outline thing....hmmm, maybe. Its nice on pickups (especially the more obscure ones) but having it on EVERY interactive object is a bit much...especially on the ladder you are currently climbing.

This may seem like nitpicking but the moment you press the button for the takedown, the screen blacks out for half a second. Is that a loading screen? Because if so: Dude, Wtf?

I wish it was more flexible. Right now the game seems to perfectly purvey the feeling of flexibility whilst only offering you 3 very rigid paths.

Also, they should make Combat ridiculously difficult to encourage stealth play. Because right now, I see no reason to not go guns blazing. This aspect literally broke Splinter Cell: conviction(I'm referring to the fact that you could auto-kill an enemy 2 miles away, hiding behind cover) SO they should be more careful.

And lastly: Why don't they add a cone of sight? To indicate where the bad guys are watching? Like in the old Commandos games? Making that visible would increase the Stealth game tension significantly I think......

Even the original Deus Ex had very similar mechanics and gameplay so I don't see what all the complaints are about. "If it ain't broke - don't fix it" - and Squeenix seems to have taken that saying to heart by the looks of the video.

They made the lethal/non lethal takedowns far more satisfying, and presumably someone in HQ will be grinding gears / singing praise at you for taking one of those options.

While some folks aren't impressed by the myriad of routes through a level, it's not much different from the original game. The only difference being is that this one looks far more polished and smoother than the original, and with any luck better acted.

No-one is forcing the complainers to buy it or even play it. If they buy it and don't like it - just exchange it for another game or replay the orginal and let that be their defining experience of the Deus Ex world.
