The Dunedain doesn't look like a Dunedain. The armor is too heavy and ornate. He should be wearing anything heavier than leather and some chainmail maybe.

Yeah, there needs to be a bit of editing, as this is not related to LotRO but is rather the trailer for the upcoming "War in the North" game.

As for the trailer itself, I dunno, some random combat scenes just don't do it for me anymore. Need moar information about actual game mechanics.

Looks nice. The archery actually looks really powerful (the sound of that bowstring is delicious) and he can nock arrows extremely fast which is cool. Just for that I'm impressed.

This. Don't use "that guy" for anything relating to Lord of the Rings. Just don't.

Am I allowed to suggest that this game might be rubbish? It's certainly pretty enough, but when the actual Lord of the Rings stories have been so strongly rewritten by what was originally the "supplementary" material, introducing a whole new Sauron-related enemy and an entire Evil army is going to take an immense amount of explaining, which will no doubt get in the way of the monster genocide the trailer suggests.

If it had nothing to do with LotR, I might be more interested and less bewildered. Why are they making this again?

What is it with video game developers interpreting the Lord of the Rings as being High Fantasy?

Can I play as a Great Eagle? Please???
Sorry, can't play as the Eagle. HOWEVER! After a certain point you can summon him whenever you damn well please, and he will destroy just about anything you want him too. There are videos of him obliterating trolls and whole groups of Orcs.

My thoughts exactly. Although I enjoyed all the the LOTR games so far (except Conquest, don't even get me started on Conquest) and I'd love to play another one, especially with today's video game advancements... this just seems a little forced.

I don't know much about the story they're going to be using but if they're trying to make some sort of demi-villain and pretend that defeating him is just as important as defeating Sauron... yeah I don't think that'll really hold up.

Also, what's the deal with all these spin off games ALWAYS having a Man an Elf and a Dwarf? BFME2 and the Third Age both did it too. I guess it's for gameplay balance or something. But in the original trilogy Aragorn, Legolas and Gimi were brought together to form an alliance due to a desperate cause. None of them really wanted to cooperate because of the uneasiness between their races, especially between Elves and Dwarves. But in the face of great evil they soon forgot their differences and learned to respect each other for their own strengths. But all the games seem to just throw this element away and say: "Hey, if it's good enough for Legolas and Gimli, it's good enough for every other Elf and Dwarf!" No, no it's not.

Anyway, I can't see much gameplay here and the little that is featured doesn't seem all that inspiring. Perhaps I'll check the reviews once this game is out.

I hope the reviews of this game aren't good...not because i'm sick to death of spin off games and not because i have heard bad things about it, this game does look quite good...and i will probably like it (Anything Lord of the Rings except Conquest i like...)

It's because of my wallet in the November period...

It's going to hate me for months on end, i'm already getting a good 4 games before the 20th! i don't think my poor wallet can survive another £40!

Just once, I'd like a LOTR game where you can play as a hobbit. I get that they don't fit into game developers' idea of what a LOTR game is, which is (apparently) muscle-bound dark fantasy action homoeroticism, but then make it a puzzle game or an adventure game or something... hobbits are the main turning point of almost every important event in the story. Leaving them out is like leaving out batman in a batman game.

I blame Peter Jackson. The movies are good, but also chock-full of stereotypes (drunk dwarf, childish hobbit) that simply do not exist in the books.

I think the reason it's so easily confused with LotRO is that it takes place during the exact same place and time. You're helping the war in the North in LotRO while the Fellowship handles the war in the South and deals with the ring. But hey, at least you can play an effective and dangerous hobbit in LotRO.

That being said, I don't have much hope for this, since the two most common responses I've seen are confusion with LotRO or general disinterest.

Lord of the Rings is, despite what some try to claim, the blueprint for High Fantasy. It's just that we've piled on ever so much more magic, unicorns and horrible beasts in more modern settings that the even the magical, mystical, elf, dragon and dwarf-filled lands of Middle-earth can start to look plain.

Hi folks - My name is Tina, and I work at Snowblind Studios (Developers of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North). I wanted to pop in to see if anyone had any questions I could answer, or comments you wanted me to have to take back to the team.

A few things to get you started.

1) You guys were absolutely right that this is not part of The Lord of the Rings Online. The MMO team over at Turbine are extremely talented (and great people) but we are working on a Console/PC 3 player co-op Action RPG.

2) Who are we? Snowblind is the team that brought you Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath. Our focus has always been on co-operative gameplay, especially in the Action RPG setting.

3) We take working in The Lord of the Rings universe very seriously, which is why you see characters like Elladan, Elrohir, The Great Eagles, and Radagast making an appearance. We are working within an expanded story, this is true, but there is precedent in the novels for this. While there were great battles occurring in the South, the North was no different. Sauron had generals stationed in many locations. There was careful crafting (and a partnership with The Lord of the Rings licenseholders) that we hope will shine through.

4) A bit about our gameplay: As noted, we are a three player co-op experience. The entire campaign is co-op, but if you don't have a friend on hand, you can either connect with other players online or allow the AI to stand in. We support couch/online/LAN(Systemlink) play on the consoles, so for example, I can play with one friend on the couch and connect to a third online if I would like to. Also, you can't call upon Beleram (one of the Great Eagles) all the time, although as noted he can take down a group of Orcs pretty well.

I'm happy to answer any questions you've got, whether they be about Middle-earth adaptation, the co-op, the loot, the gameplay...whatever. Just let me know how I can help.

-Tina
