What the hell is an M rating doing anywhere near LotR?

Tolkien wrote it for his kids FFS

It's just yet another shameless cash in, with material inappropriate to the source.. just more shit on the market.
I KNOW! I was like, "But...but it's Lord of the Rings! Why do I have to enter my birthday for a Lord of the Rings game?!"

This looks like a cross between The Third Age and and the hack-n-slash of Two Towers and Return of the King. The latter ones were good. Former was horrible. So...where does that leave this game?

Well you're not going to find out from this game... it may as well have been a dog that wrote it for all the relevence the story has.
That statement is a little premature considering how much we dont know about it.

One, he wrote the Hobbitt for his kids. LOTR was for a teen-adult audience.

The PEGI 18 rating is probably for blood. Europe gets so damned whinny when a little blood is shed they go ballistic. It probably isn't any more violent then the books or movie trilogy...maybe even a T rating in the States. But if it is "M", then so freaking what? LOTR tells the story of war, death, destruction

As far as "shameless cash in" there is a so much going on in Middle Earth then just Frodo and the One Ring... this is a telling of another part of the story, and honestly looks very interesting.

To those who doubt the canonicity of this game, it's right here in Return of the King, Appendix B.

March 17, 3019: Battle of the Dale. King Brand and King Dáin Ironfoot fall. Many Dwarves and Men take refuge in Erebor and are besieged.
See! Everything makes sense now. For more information, check here: Battle of Dale

"While the Fellowship carries the ring East to Mordor, their are threats in the North that must be met."

Sorry to be grammar police, but it should be there, not their.

Looks decent. I might give it a try.

Yeah, that was what I thought as well when I first read the title and I thought it would be a halfway interesting idea. The region around Erebor is something I haven't seen in a game yet, so it would at least be something new. But if you look at the map in the trailer, it looks as if it is set in the north of Eriador, which means it will most likely involve Angmar. I'd hope it would be aboutthe battle of Dale, though.

looks like it could be good but then, so did...what was it...Battle for Middle-Earth? The one which was done by the people who did Battlefront...Well anyway, it looks to be on par with that but that one ended up bombing. I'll wait for a demo.

Is it sad that the thing I noticed most was that an orc was using an urukai (spelling?) horn?

Looking forward to it.
I look forward to anything set in the Middle Earth universe.
But excluding BfME1 and LOTRO I was always disappointed.

What the hell is with some random party having both a mage and a dwarf, and was there an elf in there? The mages (such as Gandalf and Saruman) are very few in number, heck, they aren't even the same race as men, elves, or dwarves. Dwarves too are so few that finding one randomly joining with a party is rare. They'll have to rip the lore a new loophole or two to make this seem plausible, I believe.

The hobbit was written for his son who was of at war. Would send him it chapter by chapter. Sinch lotr is written after the hobbit its pretty safe to assume it was written with adults in mind. Altho thats not adults of today but for adult of when it was written.

There more than enough notes left behind to show that the army in angmar is canon. There more going on in the background of the books than their is in the movies.

Graphics and monster style in the trailer makes me think its based off the movies.
As a player of lotro which fallows the books more and tends to egnore any edits the movies made i find this game to be kind of a bitchslap to lotro from the movies as its pretty much following the same story as the first volume in lotro.

idk... just from what I saw in the trailer, the combat looks disjointed and not very fluid. It almost looks more like Dynasty Warriors than LOTR

I've actually been wanting a LOTR game that didn't follow the same stories over and over and over again. I know I'm not the only one sick of seeing the same clips and hearing the same sound bites from the movies, repeated ad nausium. It's gotten to the point where if I play a new LOTR game, I skip the intro, because I know what'll happen. (Keep in mind, I NEVER skip scenes).

Hopefully this will be more independant from the movies, which will be good. I look forward to seeing more of this universe.

Lotro is based off the books. Yea there are differances between books and movies.

Looking forward to this. we all know the events that transpired in the movies/books, but I always wondered what the rest of the world was doing at the time. Battle for Middle Earth 2 shined some light on the events, but never in any really satisfying detail.

Is it a bad thing that people want to expand on the world of Lord of the Rings? Granted the story may not be as fantastic as the original, it may prove to be an interesting addition.

OT: I'm hoping this will turn out well. The trailer seemed intriguing.

I really dislike when every LotR game feels it necesary to have an aragorn like warrior, a dwarf with an axe, an elven archer, and a mage. These games really need to take there own view of the universe, with there own unique character designs, and maby even aesthetic ones.

LotRO and Battle for Middle-Earth (and the movie based hack and slashes) are all the movie based LotR games we needed.
