I wasn't really a massive fan of the first one, I managed to complete it, but didn't think it was that great. I'm not sure about getting Prototype 2 or not.

Dear Prototype developers.

Your game is about a guy with super-powers smashing stuff and killing people, probably in an indiscriminate manner. It is an interactive depiction of a classic juvenile power fantasy. There is a possibility that it will be good, at least by the standards of the medium and genre.

So please stop trying to hit emotional notes. Quite frankly, you are not good at it.

Thanks.

Fact is, the only reason I didnt think the first Prototype was amazing was when I accidentally slashed apart a big group of civilians. (I know I was playing an anti hero and all but I personally went out of my way to not kill innocents)

How the game dealt with it in an "oops that guy just had a bad day" instead of an "Oh my god I'm becoming a monster" way seemed a bit off to me.

My main issue was attracting waves of military and monster attention the second I stubbed my toe crossing the street. Made the game a lot less fun to just run around and explore. :(

I need to try again on an easier difficulty I think. Once I finish Infamous 2... On both moralities...

... Seriously? They're making a no-holds-barred, hyperviolent, super-powered murder simulator... and they're going with "Waaaahh, waaaaahh, some dude killed my family" as the motivational hook?

I think it's a "WAAAARRGHH MUURDEEEER HIIIIM" kind of feeling. Like if a Chaotic Neutral person jumped into the river of Evil due to the murder of his family.

I find myself caring less and less for this Heller guy every time something new comes up. Having just recently finished the first Prototype I can say that I'll get this game... three or four years from now when I can get it for 10$ or something.

Wait so because Heller has a motive to tear down everything in his way to get to Mercer everyone is doubting this game? Yet previously when you tore everything apart for the sake of it, it was fine? Right...

I can his anger being a contributing factor to him gaining the powers from Mercer and can also see there being a final showdown where you beat + consume Mercer, learn what he knew and use the new found power gained from consuming him to fufil the goal Mercer couldn't reach himself.

there's nothing about this game that I am not the least bit excited about. yeah, the story isn't Mass Effect good, the game may not have InFamous gameplay quality and polish. but god DAMMIT! I STILL play prototype every single day for hours on end despite finishing the game over 4 times! haters who just want to sit back and say "inFamous is better!" or "looks stupid..." know exactly where they can shove it, because this game wasn't made for you, it was made for me, for people like me, and for every one of those die-hard fans who asked for more when no one else was there to support it. so fuck you very much, I'm going to go pre-order this game now.
this. so much this. i see all these people complaining about how "its just a juvenile power fantasy" or something along the lines of "STOP TRYING TO MAKE IT EMOTIONAL!" or perhaps just saying "i dunno... looks bad"

well then who cares? no one cares about your opinion because this game wasn't meant to please you or anyone like you. it was meant to please those who thought the first one was the shit and play it every day like this guy and me. so anyone else can suck it, because i'm going to love this game no matter what and all your whining is nothing but pointless.

I am looking forward to this game. I really liked the first one. It was a solid game and the open world nature of it in combination with the fantastic feeling power set was great. I mean, it had the obligatory monsters in it, the ever increasing numbers of big guys and all that, which is kind of annoying, but the whole package was a win. I liked the twist ending. I didn't like how the last boss was basically a huge ugly version of yourself. That being said: I was a bit disappointed you weren't playing as Alex Mercer, but this seems like the character motivation could be well rounded out. I look forward to this game though, don't really care what anyone says about it. Boo's and yawns are juvenile. And pointing it out as an adolescent power fantasy is hitting the nail right on the head, but that isn't a bad thing. Games like this exist for that reason. I just hope they do a bit more with textures on this one, the PC version was a bit of a letdown, though it was a solid port.

Errr. What.
Those were my first thoughts after watching this. What did this trailer show that we didn't know already?
It just felt really, really pointless. And made me like the new guy even less.
I still plan to buy the game, because I loved the first Prototype, but if they make this annoying roaring bloke kill Mercer I will not be happy with them.

i never notice the weird jacket the guy is wearing, what's up with prototype and strange cloth for their protagonists? Alex Mercer had an indestructible hoody and could not tuck his shirt in and this guy has titanium plates in his collar.

Eh. I still want to play as Alex, not try to kill him. Less "my family died" trailers and more awesome maiming things trailers please.

Hold the phone. Of course Prototype doesn't have inFamous gameplay quality. It has far GREATER quality than inFamous. And why is that guy you quoted comparing this game to inFamous in the first place? Does he have anything comparing FF13 to GT5 while he's at it? Guy sure sounds dumb, even if he is trying to support Prototype.

I couldn't help but feel "/care" at the end of it. Mainly because the first game had the emotional depth of a goldfish bowl. Also it's hard to inject any emotional connections to a characters who goes around rapagaing splicing people in half. "Core NPC" immortality seems illogical in a world of random painful deathness.

I find the killing in Prototype awfully hollow and empty. Maybe if I was 13 I might enjoy it again, then again, when I was that age, gore scared the living poop out of me. Still does in some respects.

In addition to your statement, I think that it's nice that the main character's motive in this one is not amnesia. The fact that we at least get to hear the voices of his now deceased family improves the relationship between characters.

Moving away from that, I'm curious as to whether Mr. Heller is supposed to be an infected human or an imitation produced by the blacklight virus, like Alex Mercer is. Either way it is pretty irrelevant, but it would be nice to know.

Well, I enjoyed the first, so this is on my radar. Not as excited as I was for the first though, after being spoilt by the polish of BF3 and Deus Ex's trailers - much more impressive marketing from those two than for Prototype 2.
